00:12Well, it's been an extraordinary night.
00:15The world had been waiting to hear what the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would reveal in
00:19their Oprah Winfrey interview, and nobody had any idea how open and frank the couple
00:24were going to be.
00:25Meghan made some shocking and heartbreaking revelations, including that she'd had a
00:29suicidal thoughts, and that there were several conversations about the colour of Archie's
00:34skin before his birth.
00:36Meanwhile, Harry made it clear that he felt trapped within the royal family, and that
00:41he and his wife had made the decision to step back from royal duties due to a lack of support
00:46and understanding.
00:47Brandy, it's been a lot to take in.
00:50You've been watching the interview live in the US.
00:52How have the American public reacted?
00:54I think going into this, that nobody expected to see everything that we saw in this interview.
01:01And I think that Americans are really angry from what I can see on social media.
01:07People are livid.
01:08People are in full support of Harry and Meghan, but at the same time, very angry about the
01:13things she was saying that she experienced.
01:15I think one of the things that Meghan was saying that was so interesting and true is that in
01:20America, we do grow up looking at royal life as a fairy tale.
01:25And so it was a huge deal to see Meghan walk down that aisle to Prince Harry as a Black
01:30woman,
01:30and for young women of colour to see themselves represented in her, which she also said.
01:35And to hear her say the things she said after that is heartbreaking.
01:40To hear the Duchess of Sussex say, I just didn't want to be alive anymore, was utterly
01:48heartbreaking, shocking.
01:51And I think we knew that they were unhappy with their situation and that their mental health
01:58had been impacted.
01:59But I don't think we knew to what extent to hear it in Meghan's words was truly saddening.
02:07And I think one of the big takeaways, too, was when Meghan was talking about Kate Middleton
02:11and their relationship, and she said that Kate Middleton actually made her cry over the
02:17flower girls.
02:17I thought it was interesting that she was candid about that.
02:20And what was the reaction to some of the rumours that Meghan addressed personally during
02:26the interview?
02:27It was a mixed reaction.
02:29There were people who were upset that Kate didn't speak out in support of Meghan and,
02:34you know, tell the real story.
02:36But at the same time, is that even a thing that Kate could do?
02:40I think Americans don't really understand royal culture and what it entails.
02:45Well, the royal family's mantra has always been to, you know, never complain, never explain.
02:51But I think what was the most interesting thing about this interview was that it was the
02:55opportunity for Harry and Meghan to share their side of the narrative, to share the story
03:02and how they felt, not through friends, not through sources.
03:07But, you know, the one thing before we go, we have to talk about, there was some positive
03:11elements from this interview, weren't there, Brandy?
03:14There were.
03:15I was really excited to hear the news that Harry and Meghan are having a girl.
03:20That was so, that was a bright spot.
03:22That was like, OK, we've heard a lot.
03:25Yeah, that made me smile for sure.
03:27And they look happy.
03:28They look, they look at home, which is, you know, more than anyone could ever want for
03:36anybody.
03:37And hello, we wish the Sussexes all the best.
