00:02What do you think people imagine when they picture the manager of the Cecil Hotel?
00:08Well, unfortunately, a lot of them were thinking there's some crazy, creepy person behind the
00:13scenes that just doesn't care and is running just this hotel where all these bad things
00:17happen and it's not true. And that's one of the reasons why I wanted to do the interview,
00:22because I want the world to see that who was actually really running, really cared about
00:26the hotel and was running it properly, you know?
00:32But I would say there are a lot of, like, unique challenges when you are running a hotel like
00:39the Cecil. A lot came with the place.
00:47It wasn't even the first couple days in the job where the maintenance manager said that
00:53we had a problem. I said, what do you mean?
01:10One of the, um, guests died at the hotel. It was hard to process. It's hard to process.
01:23Before working at the hotel, I mean, I'd never had any experience with a dead body or a coroner,
01:28you know, or even the police. That was, like, a real eye-opener for me.
01:36Come to find out, well, you know, this happens all the time.
01:41The maintenance manager, he walked me through the entire hotel.
01:46Along the way, you know, he would just squint and say, someone died here, someone died there.
01:53Suicides, overdoses, murders.
01:57At one point, I think I just asked him, is there a room here that, like, maybe somebody
02:02hasn't died in? I never got used to that. Never got used to that.
