00:00Have the calls changed in any way since lockdown? Has there been a shift in
00:03what people are calling up about or is it just been an increase in numbers?
00:08There's definitely been a shift that I've noticed, I don't know about you guys, I think there's
00:13like we were saying earlier on, it feels like for everybody there's been a pause in life for
00:17all of us, you know, school's stopped, we're not going to work, celebrations have been postponed,
00:20but for so many people that aren't in very happy homes, you know, they've strained relationships
00:25with parents or loved ones and there's levels of abuse that are present in the home. Coronavirus
00:31hasn't stopped that for those guys and actually they haven't got the space to escape to where
00:36they would have normally, be that their school, you know, teachers that they confided in,
00:40friends houses etc. So that seems to be really exacerbating the problems that people were
00:45probably experiencing pre-lockdown but they've been made worse by that. I've definitely seen
00:50increasing conversations of that of that type since since the lockdown began. We've had some
00:56frontline workers who have been responding kind of about the worries about lack of PPE,
01:01about the pressures of it, about the fact that it's having on their colleagues, even the stress
01:06of actually some people have had to make that really difficult decision between helping the public
01:11by continuing to do their job for the NHS or seeing their families and loads of great and really
01:17brave people have actually chosen to not see their families and to actually do their really hard
01:23work and support the NHS and all of us and that takes a huge toll on people when you're doing
01:29a
01:30really difficult job at the best of time, let's play on to this. And have you guys found, has it
01:36changed
01:37the way you think about volunteering? Has it changed the way about how you talk to people and you know,
01:42the coaching and the progress you've made through the platform, has that changed your views of mental
01:48health in any way? I would say that it's actually made me value shout more just because of how
01:53accessible the volunteering is because I think a lot of mental health volunteer in particular at the
01:57moment it's all face-to-face whereas those services are shutting down right now when we're in lockdown
02:03but we're still there for people. And what sort of things help those who are reaching out,
02:08is it from your experience? Is it is it reassurance? Is it purely just having these conversations and
02:14being able to share their worries and anxieties? I think for a lot of the texters that they they want
02:20to feel heard and I think you know like like we said so the other services aren't there to listen
02:27to
02:27them at the moment there's nobody around. A lot of people don't have friends that they can they can get
02:33you know and see face to face and I think the ability to um to drop a quick message to
02:38us when
02:39they might be in one of the situations where they can't openly speak because they've got people in the
02:45house with us who aren't aware of what they're going through. I think the ability to do that to us
02:50is absolutely priceless at the moment. So they're not necessarily wanting direct advice or anything like
02:56that it's purely to be able to share and offload some of some of the feelings and some of what
03:01they're going
03:01through. And has the training and everything you've picked up through what you've learned
03:05through Shout and things like that, are there skills that you can use back home in your own
03:09personal lives? Massively. A much better listener, a better friend, a better partner, probably a better
03:17employee and colleague as well. Do you guys think that we're reaching enough people? Do you think Shout
03:23is in the community enough? Because one of the things we've obviously been doing with our front line
03:27is trying to get the front line NHS team to be able to access and know that the support is
03:32there but
03:32there is still quite a big stigma within the NHS about reaching out for support for mental health
03:37because many of them believe that they are they are the place to go to for support and they shouldn't
03:41be asking others for support which is wrong but that is the way they feel. Do you feel we're getting
03:47into enough of these places we need to be to to allow people to find Shout and know it's there?
03:52No I think not enough people know about us. And also we will say this earlier I think people fear
03:59that at the moment because of what's going on and and the virus that the kind of their mental health
04:05isn't as important as what's happening in the world at the moment and so people putting it on the back
04:10burner and thinking you know oh that doesn't matter it's you know compared to what everyone else is
04:14going through at the minute I can just get on the end of this but I mean don't like we're
04:19here
04:20well that's what the service is there for and yeah we just wish that more people would
04:24text in as and when they feel like they need it. So if you've got a message those wanting to
04:30those wanting perhaps or thinking about reaching out but haven't yet done so what would be your message?
04:36Reach out. We're here you know and don't don't think that it's not valid because of everything else
04:43that's going on in the world. The problem is too big or small for us to talk about.
04:46You guys you guys are the trailblazers so you guys have been doing it you know doing a fantastic job
04:52and keep your shout moving forward so well done and thank you for all your hard work we really
04:56appreciate it. Well done everyone. Thanks so much for your time. Well done everyone. Bye bye.
