00:04In October 2019, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made their first official visit to Pakistan.
00:11Over a packed five-day tour, the couple travelled around the country,
00:15exploring Islamabad, Lahore and the Hindu Kush mountains.
00:21For William and Kate, this trip was all about highlighting the causes that they're most passionate about,
00:26including climate change, conservation, equal education for all,
00:31and strengthening the relationship between Britain and Pakistan.
00:35I think Catherine and I felt it was really important to come to Pakistan
00:38and one, again, see all the different range of environments there are in Pakistan
00:42and really trying to get the feel of the country,
00:44but also to use our voice, to lend our position and our visits
00:49to kind of talk about issues like climate change, issues about the environment.
00:53With over two million people of Pakistani heritage living in the UK,
00:57the couple took the opportunity to get to know the country's culture and traditions.
01:03There were many opportunities on this trip for William and Kate to connect with local people.
01:08One of the standout moments from the tour was them arriving in a reception in Islamabad in an auto rickshaw.
01:14They then visited a Kalash village where they were given traditional headwear
01:19and got involved with the dancing with the locals.
01:23They played cricket with local school children.
01:25There was plenty of lovely footage from that of William scoring a six.
01:30And Kate even spoke Urdu at one point.
01:42William and Kate's desire to connect with the people of Pakistan was also reflected in their style choices on the
01:49trip.
01:49There are a lot of talking points on this trip regarding Kate's style.
01:53From the moment that she stepped off the plane in a traditional shower kameez,
01:57there were dresses by local designers, Maheen Khan, Ilan.
02:02And there are also plenty of subtle nods to the host nation,
02:07such as the embroidered jasmine flowers on one of Kate's shower kameez.
02:12And William gets a special mention for his style on this tour
02:16because he wore a traditional shawani to the reception when the couple arrived in an auto rickshaw.
02:24Kate usually has everyone talking about her fashion credentials, but William stole the spotlight.
02:29On more than one occasion during their visit,
02:32the royal couple retraced the steps of William's mother, Princess Diana.
02:36William and Kate's visit to Pakistan was a hark back to Diana's visit.
02:41In the early 90s, they visited the same mosque.
02:46We saw Kate wearing a traditional headscarf and walking barefoot towards the temple.
02:51We also saw them spending time with Imran Khan.
02:55And towards the end of their visit, they also visited a hospital
02:59where Kate had a really sweet moment with a young patient who gave her a plastic tiara to wear.
03:07Despite major challenges around security,
03:09William and Kate succeeded in their desire to reach as many local people as possible.
03:14In the lead up to William and Kate's tour of Pakistan,
03:18palace officials described it as their most complex tour that they've ever undertaken.
03:23But I think this has really prepared them for their future roles as king and queen consort.
03:28And despite the logistics behind preparing for a tour like this,
03:35Kate and William came across as really down to earth,
03:38the way in which they connected with locals and officials during their time there.
03:42And there were some really lovely moments that have stood out from this trip.
03:45We'll see you again!
03:48We'll see you again soon!
03:48And see you later!
