El presidente Abelardo de la Espriella se manifestó luego del Comité Nacional para el Manejo de Desastres de la Unidad de Gestión del Riesgo y de Desastres (UNGRD) para atender la crisis desencadenada por el terremoto de magnitud 7,4 que conmocionó al país este 10 de agosto hacia las 7:30 a.m. El reporte del mandatario sobre las 12:30 p.m. era de 111 fallecidos, 87 heridos, 18 centros de salud comprometidos, 18 vías y 6 aeropuertos comprometidos.
