Benedict Cumberbatch, Tilda Swinton, Rachel McAdams and Benedict Wong were among the A-list cast members attending the special red carpet launch of Doctor Strange on Monday evening at Westminster Abbey. Benedict, who takes on the role of the neurosurgeon turned master sorcerer in Marvel's latest blockbuster, was thrilled for audiences to see the mind-blowing visual effects of the film. Tilda, playing the Ancient One, and Benedict Wong, playing Strange's mentor Wong, spoke about their excitement for the film's diverse, modernised take on the original comic's stereotypes, while Rachel McAdams expressed her admiration for her fellow actors.

00:15We've had Norse gods, we've had billionaire playboy philanthropists who have a genius
00:21poncho for building ironclad suits and protective weaponry for the world.
00:25We've had a genetically re-engineered superhero Captain America and now we're moving into
00:30a new era, a new chapter, Black Panther and Captain Marvel as well to be included in that
00:36number.
00:37And Stephen Strange just makes the canvas a lot bigger, he's Sorcerer Supreme, we'll get
00:42there eventually, and he protects what the Avengers know as their reality from other
00:48dimensional forces.
00:49So yeah, just when you think a frame of a superhero film is getting a little bit full, we've just
00:55made it go sketched.
00:56And to see the full composition by the end is just mind-blowingly beautiful.
01:01So I'm thrilled for audiences to get a thrill on that level, let alone the story and broadening
01:06the cinematic universe with this great character Stephen Strange.
01:08The ancient one in the comics is an old Asian dude sitting on the top of a mountain handing
01:13down the wisdoms to the white hero.
01:16And Scott Derrickson and Marvel wanted to shake up that rather noxious stereotype and come what
01:23may they asked me if I would do it.
01:25And I just figured that the lowest common denominator between that old dude and me is some kind of,
01:33or something I could play, is some sort of perspective.
01:38You know, someone that old who's 700, 1000 years old has got real perspective and doesn't
01:46sweat.
01:46Doesn't sweat the small stuff, doesn't sweat the medium stuff, probably doesn't sweat at all,
01:50and is also a badass by the way, but is light and flexible and relaxed and like a good leader.
01:58I'm gushing about it obviously, but I just, I was really blown away.
02:02I think everyone's performance is phenomenal and I feel really lucky to be a part of such
02:07a, you know, high caliber cast and it's funny and it's fun and yet there's such deep emotion
02:15to it and it's really about something.
02:19And as Scott said, he wanted it to be about building up rather than tearing down.
02:23And at the end it's not about destruction, it's about reconstruction.
02:27And, you know, and I think that's very cool to, you know, something different.
02:30So, it's very fresh.
02:32Oh yeah, it was great.
02:33Yeah, yeah.
02:34I was really thrilled.
02:35And also to sort of hook up with some buddies.
02:37You know, Benedict's I've known her a number of years and she was a good paladin man.
02:41And, you know, just to be involved in a, sort of have an East Asian superhero, you know,
02:50and to claim it by birthright is fantastic.
