00:05Congratulations, you've been knighted, you've won countless gongs, and now you've been given an achievement for your entire life.
00:10How does that make you feel?
00:12It makes it wonderful, because before I start, I'm still here to pick it up, you know, it's not posthumous.
00:18So I'm very happy, but also I'm happy about The Source, you know, it's a British independent film.
00:25I've just done two pictures for them, is there anybody there, and Harry Brown, they're both independent British productions,
00:30and they're both films which I'm very proud of, and they're wonderful for me to do,
00:35and if there'd been no British independent films, we wouldn't have done them.
00:38So I'm ecstatic about it.
00:41And everyone's got a favourite Michael Caine film, but what's your proudest film that you've been a part of?
00:47That's very difficult, very difficult indeed.
00:51Harry Brown would be where I was happiest with the performance I've given,
00:56inasmuch as, by my own criteria, movie acting should be that the actors should disappear, and the acting should disappear.
01:04You know, the camera's only three feet away, you shouldn't see any acting.
01:07And I've done that on several occasions in my own mind, not in the critics' mind, in my own mind.
01:12And this is the best I've ever done it.
01:15And of course, as well as British independent film, you also do Hollywood blockbusters, you've done two Batman films, is
01:19there scope for a third?
01:20Oh, I'm sure there'll be a third.
01:22They've made so much money with Dark Knight, there's bound to be a third.
01:26But it won't be yet, because I've just done a couple of days, just for a laugh, with Chris Nolan,
01:31the director in Hollywood,
01:32he's doing one called Inception.
01:34So that doesn't finish till, I think it finishes next Friday.
01:38So there ain't going to be a Batman for a while.
01:41I'm not relying on that.
01:42And of course, you've also done some fantastic comedies, I have to say.
01:46I think you're a brilliant comedy actor as well.
01:48I mean...
01:49Can I tell you something?
01:50I am dying for a comedy script, and I never get...
01:54I get these dark pieces that always send to me.
01:57And if I could get a wonderful comedy script, I would do it in an instant.
02:00I saw Without a Clue recently, I thought it was brilliant.
02:03Oh, that's a funny movie.
02:04Yeah, yeah, yeah.
02:05We had a great time, Ben and I.
02:07And, you know, I love Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, you know.
02:12Occasionally, I'm flipping through the channels, and I see it, and I watch it for a couple of minutes, and
02:16it still makes me laugh.

02:20And finally, how important is an award ceremony like this for sort of highlighting the British talent there is out
02:24there?
02:24Because do you think a lot of it goes sort of under the radar?
02:26Oh, yeah.
02:26It's of utmost importance.
02:28I mean, even someone like me, who is very pro, obviously, the British independent film and British talent.
02:34I came here with an expectation of things being good, and they far went way beyond I ever thought they
02:42would be.
02:42They were extraordinary.
02:44Absolutely extraordinary.
