00:20I'm in Stoning, which is about 20 minutes away from Quebec City.
00:23Now, I've been snowboarding before.
00:25I'm pretty confident on the piece, but I've never gone on a half bike for Christmas.
00:30What are we doing?
00:30We're going to ride the bike.
00:36In terms of skiing in Canada, how does Stoning compare to other resorts?
00:42The strength about Stoning is night skiing, so lots of people after work drive down and
00:47get two, three hours of skiing in before they go to bed.
00:51It's like a family-oriented resort.
00:53We have big snow parks, a half-pipe for all our teenagers.
00:57We have a nice beginner slope for younger kids.
01:00That's how we distinguish ourselves.
01:04I love that we've literally just come up the mountain, got off a lift and gone straight
01:08to the half-pipe.
01:10There's not even any, like, gently beginning here.
01:12No time for that.
01:13You are just diving in at the deep end.
01:20Chris, this is quite intimidating.
01:21Talk me through it.
01:22Yeah, all right.
01:24We'll try to go nice and easy at first.
01:26Okay.
01:26All right.
01:27So a half-pipe has a flat bottom and the walls, right?
01:30So we're going to go along the flat bit on the bottom and try to just turn up the walls
01:35slightly, all right?
01:36Just a bit.
01:37Just to get a feeling for the vertical, all right?
01:50We got in some turns.
01:51Yeah.
01:52Now we're going to get in some jumps.
01:53What we're going to do is instead of just turning down the pipe, you'll pop with both
01:58your legs.
01:58And at the same time, you want to rotate your upper body to do a kind of a 180 and
02:03then
02:03land on the other side.
02:09Yeah.
02:12Okay.
02:13I don't know quite what happened to the sand before the pop.
02:18I'm freaked out.
02:22In terms of people that come here and want to improve their skiing, is there a range of
02:26different types of lessons?
02:28Yep.
02:28Well, our big advantage is the bunny hill, the beginner slope.
02:33We have two magic carpet lifts, which are new, and that helps a lot because it's a lot
02:41easier to learn how to ski when you don't have to take a poma lift up.
02:45So all the lift part, which is usually very scary at first, isn't at all, and you can
02:51concentrate on learning how to ski.
02:53How would you say I'm faring?
02:55As a beginner, let me just accentuate that beginner of a half-pipe, on a scale of 1 to
03:0010, how am I doing?
03:01I think you're doing all right.
03:02The last run there when you started to lose control.
03:06I'm not sure about that loss of control.
03:08I'm so in control.
03:09What I like about that is that you're trying.
03:12Do you know what?
03:12I'm seriously going for it.
03:13No, you're doing great.
03:15Okay, so what have I got to do this time?
03:17Not lose control?
03:18Yeah, not lose control, so we're going to try to get in as many hits as you can.
03:22This is the last one, so I've got to nail it this time.
03:25All right.
03:25All right.
03:26Great.
03:28Okay, here we go.
03:38I'm leaning.
03:40In.
03:42Yes!
03:42The starting world.
03:55Ladies and gentlemen, that is my third time ever on a half-pipe.
03:59Can you tell I'm slightly excited?
04:01Admittedly, I didn't get much air.
04:03Admittedly, I didn't go that far up the pipe.
04:05But it was hitting and bombing.
04:08Now we're going to see the real pro in action.
04:20I'm totally tough.
04:22You got your 180s down.
04:23I totally loved it.
04:25Chris, thank you.
04:26You're welcome.
04:27It has got a great atmosphere.
04:29It's really fun.
04:29I mean, it helps having the music playing over the system, but it does sort of add to a really
04:34upbeat vibe.
04:34We also have really good après-ski.
04:37Yeah.
04:37Lots of live shows and good atmosphere in the bar, too.
04:41Brilliant.
04:42Always important.
04:43Yeah.
