00:10The 47-year-old replaces Marcello Bielsa, who left after Uruguay's winless group stage
00:17exit at the FIFA World Cup.
00:19According to the AUF, Forlan will begin his new role immediately, first taking charge
00:25of the country's under-20 team.
00:27The federation described Forlan as a role model and one of Uruguay's greatest football
00:32figures, saying he will bring leadership and extensive international experience to the
00:37position.
00:38Bielsa's departure followed the expiration of his contract after he admitted he had been
00:43unable to turn Uruguay's talented squad into a successful World Cup team.
00:48Local media also reported tensions between Bielsa and several players during the tournament.
00:53Forlan earned 112 international caps, helped Uruguay win the 2011 Copa America, and was
01:02named the best player of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
01:06Since retiring in 2019, Forlan has coached Uruguayan clubs Peñarol and Atenas, and will now lead
