01:10I first of all would like to thank the Cancer Research Center for hosting us today.
01:16Your work with the University of Salamanca and CSIC has been remarkable and long-lasting, by the way.
01:23Happy anniversary. Felicidades por esos 25 años.
01:27I also thank the Spanish Association Against Cancer for organizing this event.
01:32And of course, allow me to recognize the work of different entities and researchers who support our shared goal.
01:42Preventing and conducting research on cancer, being more effective in its treatments, caring for patients,
01:50and giving them a more powerful voice.
01:54And why?
01:56Because everyone, even before potentially becoming patients, should be at the center of research and of concern by our healthcare
02:06system.
02:07So, the key word is prevention.
02:11I think when you talk about the, your motto is so pertinent.
02:17Cancer research needs us all.
02:20It's very important.
02:21Moreover, patient experience transforms technological innovation into a human innovation.
02:28And ultimately, improves medical effectiveness.
02:33What we are talking about, what you are talking about, is a more inclusive research.
02:39One that leads to more effective and humane treatments.
02:44In our complex and rapidly changing world, global priorities may equally shift.
02:51But that does not necessarily apply to certain empirical realities, like cancer remaining, the second leading cause of death worldwide.

03:06Accomplishments and strides, of course, are numerous.
03:11This center is a good example.
03:13I have just been to several of your labs, where you are working on how to improve the diagnosis
03:19and treatment of cancer caused by mutations in specific oncogenes,
03:24where you try to explore deeper into chemical mutations in RNA,
03:30or study the genetic basis of myeloma in the field of hematological cancers.
03:36However, we know that this is continuous today to spread faster than our knowledge.
03:43That is why equitable and secure funding remains vital,
03:47ensuring fairness and transparency, both in the distribution of resources and in the access to results,
03:55as well as in guaranteeing the basic right to health care.
04:01It is therefore more than worthy to continue investing in research, in technology, in services,
04:07and above all, in talent, without forgetting how crucial it is to invest in prevention.
