Amhara: A Nation in Crisis!
The Amharas are one of Ethiopia’s largest ethnic groups and played a leading role in the making of the three-millennium-old Ethiopian state. They constitute about 30% of the country’s 140 million population.

The Amhara people are a major Ethio-Semitic-speaking ethnic group in Ethiopia.

In Amhara, the violence since August 2023 has displaced more than 100,000 people and left 4.7 million children out of school. Amhara regions (an estimated 166,353 IDPs or 8.7%) account for the highest IDP caseloads assessed nationwide
