Sh2-46 Nebula Captured By The VLT Survey Telescope - 6,000 Light Years Away

Not everything is as it seems within the Sh 2-46 nebula. A bright star, HD 165319, is plunging through the gas, creating a visible bow shock. This suggests it's a runaway star on a high-speed journey through the cosmos, far from its birthplace.
