00:00:26Well, welcome to our Luminaries series, we're continuing the story of Ruth as we finish
00:00:32this volume of Coming Home, it is volume six that we have been sharing from, by way of
00:00:40update, I have done a couple of comprehensive edit passes on Coming Home four, five and
00:00:48six, all three volumes are essentially ready, we're going to do, I hope, one more
00:00:53edit pass on Coming Home four, which is Bashar Harold, one more on Mashal, which is word
00:01:04pictures and then another on the final in the series, which is Coming Home volume six, which
00:01:13is this one called Mayoreth Luminaries.
00:01:17All total, it'll be 2000 pages of new literature to consider, new translations and new insights,
00:01:29powerful essay on how God goes about resolving his ongoing frustrations with humankind and
00:01:38also advancing his prime agenda, which is develop, to develop God into the sun, that he can trust
00:01:46and rely.
00:01:48So this is the conclusion of that story is the story of Ruth and Boaz. Turns out they are the
00:01:55central
00:01:56caste and the redemption of Dode as the kinsman redeemer. So we are at the portion of the story
00:02:06in the second chapter where Ruth at Naomi's advice has come to visit with Boaz at the end of the
00:02:18barley harvest on the threshing floor after he's had a lovely dinner with his staff. And she has come
00:02:28dressed for success or undressed for success, as the case may be. It is a very intimate setting. She
00:02:37has prepared herself to be as physically beautiful as is possible. And she was already an extraordinarily
00:02:45beautiful woman. And she had something that was particularly appealing to this man, intelligence,
00:02:51along with the outstanding character. And so here is God blending brilliance and beauty, sensuality,
00:03:00and a message that should resonate with all of us into one story, showing that he sees nothing wrong
00:03:11with bodies, sees nothing wrong with sexuality. In fact, this is a celebration of how sensual love
00:03:20can manifest a marvelous result pursuant to the covenant. So Ruth is Yahweh's Amma. That would mean
00:03:30she was his maternal servant, would also serve Boaz as she works with God. She is responsible for fulfilling
00:03:44aspects of the Torah and enabling its birth covenant. She is the mother of the relationship that God forms with
00:03:54his people, Yisrael. She is the mother also of one and the wife of the other of the Redeemer. She
00:04:05would be
00:04:05the great-grandmother of Dode on this occasion. She'd return to be his surrogate mother, as we contemplate
00:04:14everything that can be known of the last word picture. And she will return, has returned now, past tense,
00:04:24as Dode's birth mother, as he is prepared and raised to fulfill the spring Moet Mikre in 33 CE.
00:04:36And now she's working on behalf of the covenant family, restoring Dode's reputation.
00:04:43It is a long and arduous mission, and she does it with great aplomb.
00:04:49So no matter how we define the words that she has used to describe her purpose,
00:04:57Ga'al is a redeemer. Ruth, by many names and titles, has delivered on that promise. She bore Shem
00:05:06prior to boarding the Teba, the vessel of insights as Noah's wife. And here she became Dode's great
00:05:15grandmother while also delivering Boaz's full potential. Three generations later, she would
00:05:25save Dode from himself so that he would be able to redeem the rest of us. That is the account
00:05:32chronicled in the last word picture. Then, in the waning years of the third millennia, just 33 years
00:05:41before the fourth would begin. In 33 CE, Ruth and Boaz conceived Emmanuel as the fifth coming of the firstborn.
00:05:54And now we are hard at work restoring Dode's reputation so that the redeemer can return as king
00:06:05on the day of redemption in 2033. The title, Ga'al, redeemer, is a liberator and a savior. It is
00:06:18defined by its
00:06:19verbal root, which first and foremost speaks of providing, of course, redemption. Redemption is to restore
00:06:27a relationship by reconciling it. A ga'al saves by delivering people from harm's way. To ga'al is to
00:06:37liberate endangered souls from a wide array of unhealthy situations, particularly from religious and political
00:06:50control, from slavery and servitude. Noach served in this capacity, as did Moshe, then Dode, but also
00:06:58Boaz. Each man has and will pay a very high price to ransom the receptive so as to reconcile the
00:07:10relationship. And that is an essential aspect of ga'al. The ga'al is not a savior that waves a
00:07:18magic wand.
00:07:20It is not a savior that says, hey, over this way, it's good over here. No. Ga'al is the
00:07:28one who pays the
00:07:28ransom. He's the one who pays the price to liberate the people.
00:07:36It is proper to perceive a ga'al as an emancipator. He is, as we will learn, ga'al in
00:07:46context often
00:07:48perceived to be a near relative or kinsman. And while not part of the title's definition, the familial
00:07:57ties, whether ethnic or covenant, are actually essential because the price of the ransom is
00:08:06so egregiously high that the man's incentive must offset the cost. And while he delivers justice by
00:08:18offering a defiled and unacceptable group of people, a release from their polluted culture and
00:08:30resulting stigma, the stench and stains, what he is asked to sacrifice to achieve this is, well, nearly
00:08:41incomprehensible. And that's why there's no way to do such a thing unless you know that you will
00:08:53forever be associated with those that you have redeemed. The price of life and the release can be
00:09:02equated to the fulfillment of Pesach, Matzah, and Teruah by the lamb, Nefesh, and Bull.
00:09:18Moaz, no doubt, was dazzled by Ruth's allure, but he still managed to keep his head in the game.
00:09:28What he said in response to Ruth may not have been her preference for a pillow talk. And I'm sure
00:09:36it
00:09:37well, I can't say I'm sure it wasn't because this is the kind of relationship that the two of them
00:09:43developed. And Boaz, well, he was a man born to speak. For him, everything matters. Everything is
00:09:54related in one way or another. Everything, every little detail, every nuance leads to understanding.
00:10:04And as he processes all of this, it's something that he has never been able to keep to himself.
00:10:11So he blurted out what only he was thinking, and none would be wiser for having said so.
00:10:25So he responded, you will be extolled. Now, here she is. She's the most beautiful woman he has ever
00:10:34seen. She is bathed and oiled. She is naked before him. She's probably half his age.
00:10:46And she has completely surrendered herself to him.
00:10:54And he is the king of his castle. He is the man who is respected more than any other in
00:11:04Israel.
00:11:06He is the mayor, if you will, of Bethlehem, the largest landowner. But he's a man also who has earned
00:11:13the respect of those around him. And he is on his threshing floor after a productive harvest.
00:11:23And this woman who he has taken note, who he has spoken to, who has revealed
00:11:29things that heretofore had never been said, has appeared naked before him. And so he responded,
00:11:41you will be extolled and blessed. You'll be praised as exceptional and commended. He said of Ruth,
00:11:50you'll be Barak. You will receive divine favor, and you will be adored. You might even get a tail wag.
00:12:03No, can't buy Yahweh. Yahweh doesn't have a tail, but Wookiee does. You will be commended by Yahweh,
00:12:13my young lady. Imagine that. Imagine that you've been given the
00:12:26almost ultimate gift that a man who heretofore had everything.
00:12:33The first woman who he could actually say, I respect her. The first woman that he could say,
00:12:40God respects her. God has a full dossier on her. God told me all about her. God told me that
00:12:47he was
00:12:48all in in completing her work. The very woman who claimed to be the Amma that is
00:12:56so integrated into God's story as the maternal servant.
00:13:04And she, after making some of the most profound pronouncements in human history,
00:13:12presents herself gorgeous and naked before him. And rather than just capitalizing on the moment,
00:13:23he wants to talk to her about it. That's pretty extraordinary.
00:13:30It tells you that, well, vulnerability and beauty, sensuality and love are powerful.
00:13:40They're exciting. They're rewarding.
00:13:45They are, oh, oh, oh, oh, excuse me.
00:13:49Kara decided she wanted to chew on the cables again.
00:13:52I'm sorry for that. But when you see her working on the cables, chewing them as hard as she can,
00:13:57we have enough challenges to keep the cables probably away from her jaws.
00:14:06That said. So you have all of this going on and he wants to extol her virtues
00:14:15from God's perspective, which means he has an excellent relationship with Yahweh,
00:14:20that Yahweh fills him in on matters that actually are pertinent to the overall picture that God is
00:14:29trying to develop. And so he responded, you're going to be extolled and blessed. You'll be praised
00:14:36as exceptional. You're going to be commended by Yahweh, young lady. You have done well.
00:14:41You're showing yourself to be beautiful, to be right, to be pleasing, lovely and proper.
00:14:53With your loyal love, your unfailing devotion, your enduring affection and your genuine kindness,
00:15:03goodness, especially at this moment, even more exceptional than the first time.
00:15:14You see, they were on their second date. And he's saying that as marvelous as things were on their
00:15:23first date, with their flirtation and all the wonderful things that they had to say to
00:15:30one another. Excuse me. One biting the cables, the other one biting her paws.
00:15:37All right. She's going over to Rich now, who is going to try to calm her down. All right.
00:15:45So after that first conversation, it was extraordinary.
00:15:50I think the greatest repertoire between two individuals that I've ever heard.
00:15:56She acknowledges that she is the Nacra. He is the Nacar. That he is the Ga'al and she will
00:16:06deliver a Ga'al.
00:16:09And now she's made the boldest move that you could possibly imagine.
00:16:15In a world dominated by men. In a world where the last story we hear of a woman in these
00:16:24parts,
00:16:25she was raped to death by Israelis. And yet this woman,
00:16:33she barges into town as a widow. And as a outsider.
00:16:43And she waltzes right up to the most important man in the country at the time.
00:16:50And she tells him, gives him an earful. And then on their second date, she shows up
00:17:01and she strips naked right next to him, undressing him as well.
00:17:09And yet the two of them maintain the kind of composure to talk about what was being represented.
00:17:17And what he is telling her is that she just did something extraordinarily bold.
00:17:24And that it was magnificent.
00:17:29That it was honored by Yahweh.
00:17:40That she would be extolled by Yahweh for millennia to come.
00:17:49Yahweh, for you have gone after, you have not gone after, you should say,
00:17:55the young men.
00:17:59Whether humble or
00:18:02poor.
00:18:04With an open door or whether rich.
00:18:09Route 310.
00:18:12Now it's certain that he was thrilled.
00:18:15To see the most stunningly beautiful, extraordinarily articulate,
00:18:21amazingly bold,
00:18:23and absolutely brilliant,
00:18:26woman God ever conceived,
00:18:30or deployed,
00:18:32commencing her engagement with him,
00:18:35naked as a songbird.
00:18:37But rather than devour the woman laying beside him,
00:18:41Boaz wanted to speak
00:18:44of what she represented to him,
00:18:48his people,
00:18:49and to the God
00:18:51who had sent her.
00:18:55I've long recognized that there are many aspects to a
00:19:00mutually beneficial
00:19:03relationship between men and women.
00:19:07You have to have common interests for it to work.
00:19:09They did.
00:19:11Yahweh,
00:19:12Torah,
00:19:13covenant,
00:19:15family.
00:19:18There has to be effective communication.
00:19:22Boy,
00:19:23could they talk to each other.
00:19:25I mean, they talked of profound things.
00:19:30Ultimately, you have to have a bit of a history together.
00:19:33Things that you have done together that you can celebrate,
00:19:37and that become kind of the glue or the elixir of this relationship,
00:19:41so that you have things you can bond over,
00:19:44and enjoy together.
00:19:48And if you don't want that relationship forever locked in the friend zone,
00:19:54concurrent with all of this,
00:19:57you have to engage
00:20:00centrally.
00:20:02If you leave that part of your relationship outside,
00:20:06and just talk as pals,
00:20:10you'll never grow beyond pals.
00:20:12And if you ever try to,
00:20:14it'd be hopelessly awkward.
00:20:16And that's what they were doing.
00:20:19They were recognizing that every aspect of this relationship is special.
00:20:24The other thing they were doing is that
00:20:26most people,
00:20:27if they go directly to a sensual encounter,
00:20:32rather than trying to frame the whole experience,
00:20:37to share what it means to one another,
00:20:40even before they engage in it,
00:20:43then it becomes a lasting memory.
00:20:47And that's what they were doing here.
00:20:49Yes, there would be sex.
00:20:51But it would be couched in dialogue and properly painted with all of the hues and colors and
00:21:02lights and perspective that two people in the center of God's plan could enjoy and talk about together.
00:21:13There's also a tremendous benefit in a relationship when both parties are comfortable being vulnerable to one another,
00:21:20which she did.
00:21:22And approaching him this way made her
00:21:27beyond exceedingly vulnerable.
00:21:31And when a man accepts that and praises her for it,
00:21:39and puts her at ease so that she can relax in her vulnerability, so she can enjoy that invulnerability,
00:21:47so she can be rewarded for that vulnerability.
00:21:51Sparks fly.
00:21:53That is the stuff of great chemistry.
00:21:56And to a large extent, chemistry is beyond physical attraction.
00:22:04It has to do with comfort and trust,
00:22:07with the shared experiences, common goals, a sense of values that are shared.
00:22:21And all of these things were right at this moment.
00:22:25And that's why he was talking about it.
00:22:31Now, she was fully exposed, as was he, and that is for a reason.
00:22:36And the reason matters most of all.
00:22:39She was
00:22:41righting the wrong of Chawa and Adam, as they scrambled to cover themselves,
00:22:46while cowering from God.
00:22:49She was foretelling
00:22:52that there would be a foreclosure on the condescension
00:22:57of Mikkel,
00:22:59Nod's obnoxious wife,
00:23:01who demeaned her husband, the king,
00:23:03for dancing nude from his waist to his toes,
00:23:07before the presence of Yahweh and the Erombereth.
00:23:13Bringing these stories together,
00:23:15Dode's response was to say that the Amma
00:23:18would attest to his Kabed, his significance and appropriateness.
00:23:25Even with all of the blood rushing elsewhere,
00:23:29the future Adama had enough left to gaze into Ruth's eyes,
00:23:37realizing and sharing that she was a gift from God.
00:23:43The Amma
00:23:44is Yahweh's means to Barak,
00:23:47to bless and commend humankind.
00:23:52And for this,
00:23:55she is the Ashar,
00:23:58blessed and commended
00:24:01amongst all women.
00:24:03Now, I rather suspect that there were plenty of sexually frustrated folks
00:24:08who will chafe at the overt sensuality of this scene
00:24:12and rebuke my reporting of it.
00:24:16But I know better,
00:24:19as did Boaz
00:24:21and does Yahweh.
00:24:24Ruth was to be commended for her courage
00:24:28and the confidence required to expose herself
00:24:31to this man in this place and in this way.
00:24:38Had this gone wrong,
00:24:40her life was as good as over.
00:24:43If she was right,
00:24:45it was just beginning to blossom.
00:24:50Realizing her natural concerns,
00:24:53Boaz rightly assured her,
00:24:55which is the most important thing you can do
00:24:59to someone who has surrendered to you,
00:25:03who has made themselves vulnerable to you,
00:25:07is to value the trust
00:25:12that they have placed in you
00:25:14and to reciprocate it.
00:25:17She had done well
00:25:19by exposing her beauty
00:25:22after having previously exposed her mind to him.
00:25:28Telling her that she was lovely and proper
00:25:31and doing so
00:25:32and that he was
00:25:37thrilled to be with her
00:25:39and she was pleasing him
00:25:41would have been salve to her heart,
00:25:44music to her ears.
00:25:46Even as a
00:25:49woman who wasn't
00:25:51initially fond of me providing an oral assessment
00:25:55of our romantic gestures.
00:25:59Even Leia now treasures every line.
00:26:02She remembers them.
00:26:03She writes them down.
00:26:04She turns them into poetry.
00:26:07She repeats them back to me.
00:26:10There is nothing that rivals Chesed.
00:26:15It defines Yahweh's approach to life
00:26:18and it should ours.
00:26:21Here we find Boaz looking through the shimmering oils,
00:26:24accentuating her curves
00:26:27and piercing her heart by calling what she was doing Chesed.
00:26:33An act of loyal love, unfailing devotion,
00:26:41enduring affection and genuine kindness.
00:26:45You know, when love is affectionate,
00:26:50and when gestures are an expression of kindness,
00:26:55love becomes extraordinary.
00:27:00Even more, he is saying that her presence exposed before him as a gift,
00:27:06thoughtfully and romantically presented to consummate their relationship,
00:27:14was even more glorious, indeed generous, than the gift of her words,
00:27:20though she had spoken to him on the previous occasion of their first date.
00:27:30Always the gentleman, Boaz reassured the boldly submissive woman before him.
00:27:37You don't very often hear bold and submissive juxtaposed,
00:27:41but that's exactly what Ruth represents.
00:27:47She had the courage to submit, the judgment to know who to submit to.
00:27:54And even after having lived through tremendous hardship previously.
00:28:02She knew him.
00:28:06And she knew she would never want for anything again.
00:28:10He would assure her well-being.
00:28:14And he would affirm her success.
00:28:19Underpin it.
00:28:21He may have been her Lord.
00:28:24And she, by her choice, his possession.
00:28:29But what that meant to him was that he now had the responsibility
00:28:35to uphold and cherish God's ultimate treasure.
00:28:41And he did.
00:28:44The reference to those at the gate, as we proceed in this story,
00:28:53is one my Leah knows all too well.
00:28:56And she cites often.
00:28:59Those camped out at the entrance to the city debate the merits of those who enter,
00:29:04serving as gatekeepers of sorts, or gossipers, if you prefer.
00:29:09As you are.
00:29:11Boaz was reassuring Ruth that she had already passed muster and earned their respect.
00:29:21Well, to the extent that they could offer it.
00:29:26As Yada, the man of Oz, was keenly aware that there were two
00:29:33child exemplary characters on the threshing floor.
00:29:38He was telling her that while he had earned the reputation, so was she.
00:29:48Let there be no doubt, even awakened in the middle of the night,
00:29:51even naked for the first time before the most extraordinary woman in the world,
00:29:57Boaz kept his wits about him.
00:29:59He knew that Amma was a more complete expression of Em.
00:30:06Something unheralded until this moment.
00:30:10And that he was one of the two Ga'al.
00:30:14Both of them would prevail in large part because of this woman and absolutely
00:30:22because of their partnership together.
00:30:28So this is one of the great pronouncements
00:30:32of man.
00:30:34One for us to unwrap and expose on this occasion.
00:30:42Imagine having the fortitude
00:30:47to say such a thing
00:30:51as the most beautiful woman you have ever seen
00:30:56has every curve of her body glistening in oil
00:31:00as she has approached you.
00:31:04And you are naked together.
00:31:06Then desire her.
00:31:08And nevertheless, you took this moment to say.
00:31:13Therefore, now.
00:31:16It is assuredly true.
00:31:19Em, mother.
00:31:24I am a Ga'al.
00:31:29Redeemer.
00:31:32Therefore, now it's assuredly true, mother.

00:33:54He acknowledged that he absolutely was a Ga'al.
00:33:58A redeemer.
00:34:00A man willing to pay the price to liberate God's people.
00:34:05But at the same time, he said there is a Ga'al.
00:34:09Whose appearance is imminent.
00:34:12And he is in an even closer relationship than me.
00:34:19Well, when you read Isaiah 63.
00:34:22It has two references in a row.
00:34:24One to the noun version of Ga'al.
00:34:28And the other to a verbal.
00:34:29Rendition of it.
00:34:31And both are presented.
00:34:33In the plural.
00:34:39And so, the great prophet is acknowledging.
00:34:45That there are two Ga'al.
00:34:48There are two redeemers.
00:34:50Not just one.
00:34:54Boaz is saying the same thing.
00:35:01Boaz is perhaps the most devoted of redeemers.
00:35:12Well, Dode is the most intimate of redeemers.
00:35:22The difference is actually important.

00:37:05And they've now returned at the most crucial moment that Israel had experienced to this point.
00:37:15The raping to death of a woman, and then dismembering of her, leading to the Civil War.
00:37:25And that's the last story that is told before the appearance of Ruth and Boaz.
00:37:32And now, they are together, not only to plow a different course for Israel,
00:37:44and the abuse of women, and Civil War, fighting among one another, showing that love is a better way.
00:37:54They would be the great-grandparents of the ultimate Redeemer, in terms of proximity to Yahweh.
