00:00Man Utd are slowly rebuilding their reputation in the transfer market, and here's how.
00:04In years gone by, Utd were guilty of two things.
00:07Buying the biggest individual star, even if it meant team cohesion suffered,
00:10and not being able to walk away from a deal even when it was clear that they were paying over
00:14the odds.
00:15It led to what was dubbed as the United tax, where clubs would see them coming a mile off
00:19and added extra £10, £20, £30 million onto their demands.
00:22It's how they came to spend £86 million on Anthony,
00:25despite being valued at half of that just a few months earlier.
00:27But now, things are different.
00:29When West Ham won to the same price for Mateus Fernandes,
00:31United walked away and worked on a far cheaper deal to sign Uri Tielemans.
00:35Last summer, Brian Mberma and Mateus Cunha were top of their list,
00:38shopping at Brentford and Wolves respectively,
00:40being a far cry from going to Real Madrid and Dortmund for Casemiro, Varane and Jadon Sancho.
00:46As well as this, they've re-engineered their wage structure.
00:49Gone are the days of players sitting on over £300,000 per week,
00:51and instead there's a new upper limit of around £200,000,
00:54with new signings sitting somewhere between £150,000 to £180,000 per week.
00:59Sure, it's still big money in the grand scheme of things,
01:02but compared to what they used to shut out, it's a marked improvement.
