00:10Calibus whirlpool sequence, Nolan put the cast on an actual boat in open water
00:14and dispatched jet skis to run donuts around them.
00:17This created genuine water displacement and vortex movement right next to the ship.
00:21And the visual effects team scaled up the whirlpool in post-production.
00:24Even the next scene where Odysseus' crew members are attacked by the giant monster
00:28wasn't just actors reacting to empty green screen.
00:31Stun coordinator George Cottle mounted ratchet systems directly onto the boat's deck
00:35to launch stun performers into the air during attacks.
00:38And this is why Nolan's practical effects feel different.
00:41He is not anti-CGI.
00:42He just wants the actors, camera, audience to feel something real first.
00:46So even when VFX is used later, it's built on top of something physical.
00:50And that is why Christopher Nolan is the GOAT.
