00:00So, at the time, I really wanted to do a comedy, and I kept telling my agency something like Parks
00:07and Rec, something like Parks and Rec, I want something like Parks and Rec.
00:09And then when pilot season came, which is this, I don't know if you guys know anything about TV, but
00:14it's basically like January, February is when they're casting all the new shows in television.
00:19And it's kind of shifted a little bit, like some of the auditions happened earlier or later.
00:23Around November, I got an audition for actually the part of Amy Santiago, because in the script, she was Latina.
00:29She is Latina.
00:30And I went in to read for that, and the casting director, Allison Jones, who's cast a bunch of stuff,
00:34one of my favorites, Freaks and Geeks, she cast Parks and Rec.
00:37She's really great.
00:39I went in to read for her, and she was like, hmm, all right, I want you to come back
00:43for this role, but also this other role, Megan.
00:46I was like, cool.
00:47And Megan was what Rosa turned into, tough, smart, scary as hell.
00:53I had an audition for her.
00:54I really loved the character.
00:55I wore all black.
00:56I wore my black leather jacket.
00:57I wore my black boots.
01:00And then I got a callback for both, and then I got a screen test for both.
01:04And at the screen test, I did the Amy role first, and I was really nervous, because I had had
01:09one other screen test before.
01:10And then when I got there, they were like, by the way, you're going to be improvising with Andy Samberg.
01:16He's here.
01:16And I was like, no.
01:17No pressure at all.
01:18No pressure at all.
01:19Yeah, and I'm like a fan from Lonely Island.
01:21I really love them.
01:22I think he's just one of the most brilliant comedians there is.
01:26I think he was, like, born to make everyone laugh.
01:30I think that's his, like, the thing that he's supposed to do on this earth.
01:33And so that, I don't think that that screen test went very well.
01:38I was really nervous.
01:39I also think that that role was always supposed to be Melissa's.
01:43It was always supposed to be Melissa Fumero's role.
01:45And it's just so lucky that I got to read for it, because then I got to read for this
01:50other role of Megan.
01:51And that screen test was the next day.
01:53It went really well.
01:54I was really comfortable.
01:55I was more comfortable in that character.
01:57And then I got cast, and it was really an incredible.
02:00And I actually, Melissa got cast before me.
02:04And I read that she had been cast, and I was like, I cried, because I thought, I'm so happy
02:08for her.
02:08But I also know that there's no way that a network is going to cast two Latinas.
02:13There's just, it doesn't happen.
02:14There's only one of us ever, you know.
02:16And then, like, two days later, my agents were like, guess what?
02:19That was amazing.
02:20Really good news.
02:21Yes, really good news.
