00:01It's the first time we've spoken to you since club-signed Max Sens Lacroix.
00:06Is he someone you've been interested in and tracked personally?
00:12How satisfied are you to sign him?
00:14Good afternoon, everyone. I know Max Sens from my time in Bundesliga,
00:20but I think that his progression and his adaptation in the Premier League has been fantastic.
00:25Not just on the pitch as well, in terms of personality and leadership.
00:30He has these attributes and a very reliable player that will give us power in the defensive line,
00:40that has this assurance to have a direct impact on the team, I'm sure.
00:46So it's a great signing for now and for the future.
00:49And just as a character, is he a leader?
00:51He has a strong personality. He's mature. He wants to win.
00:58He has a winner mentality. And as well, he loves to defend.
01:03And that's something I like as well.
01:06We'll go to Football 360.
01:08Just on your week in Australia, it's a long way to come to prepare in pre-season.
01:13What's the sporting facilities been like? Have you got out of the trip what you wanted?
01:18Yes, so far so good. I think that it's been a great experience to come here to Australia,
01:25a country with big sports apart from football. But football is as well popular. It has great support.
01:38And we have seen that from training sessions, from the game and tomorrow,
01:43I expect we are expecting a good crowd. It's getting more and more this energy from the people.
01:54And the facilities are good. You see here from Sydney, it's top level. And we are really happy.
02:01So it could be 80,000 plus on Saturday night at the Olympic Stadium.
02:06Also, what's that in terms of preparation for the season?
02:09If you're playing again in front of a full house, top of the atmosphere you might get?
02:13Yeah, you want to play good games and even being friendly,
02:17that you have good atmosphere, that you hear the noise from the crowd,
02:22but the emotion from the fans. And that makes that you take the feeling of the game
02:31and the atmosphere that it feels more close to the competition.
02:35One more. You went to my backyard this week in Bondi. Did you go to Bondi?
02:39No, I didn't go. Some of my colleagues, they went, but I didn't.
02:44Next time.
02:45Yeah, it's on the back of the list for next time.
02:48When we first spoke to you at Stamford Bridge about Cole having a smile on his face
02:54and just having had a bit longer to work with him, see him in training in a couple of matches,
02:59what's your feeling towards him at the moment and what do you expect this year?
03:03I see him that he's in a very positive mindset with a very good quality,
03:13with a very good mentality, very open to talk about football,
03:19to talk about what the team needs. He's rolling the team. He's going to be a leader on the pitch.
03:28So the better goal we have, the better Chelsea we will have. That's for sure.
03:33And I think that having a proper training, having a proper preparation,
03:40it's going to be important for him. And you see that he's really focusing to that.
03:47And we are connecting. We are getting each other. And so far, I like his personality.
03:52It's quite hard for us to follow the news from home over here.
03:55But I'm sure you would have seen what's happening with FIFA and the World Cup.
03:58I just wanted to ask if someone has won it and your country has won it again,
04:03your feeling towards what's happening with FIFA and the World Cup?
04:06I think that football has to be for the people, not in private hands.
04:13And I think that the way we love it is this way and we have seen a great World Cup.
04:18And some things that they stay the same way, it's good.
04:22So to defend the interests from all the people.
04:25I have a question that was similar as well.
04:28It's quite extraordinary. You're actually standing up to FIFA the way it is.
04:31Do you think that was necessary to protect the integrity of football in Europe
04:36and also what's already a pretty packed calendar?
04:38I think that it's the common feeling of football people that we want some things
04:43that we keep in the hands of everyone, that it's for all the people.
04:48So hopefully it won't happen and we will do it.
04:54We will keep the game as attractive and as authentic as we like it.
05:02And that's why it creates these emotions, these passions we've seen in the World Cup,
05:08but you've seen in the Champions League, you will see in the Premier League,
05:11in all the competitions because it's for everyone.
05:13And the more we keep it, I know it's one part, but once you start with the 20s,
05:19you finish it with the 51s and we don't want that.
05:22Go ahead Simon.
05:25Go ahead Simon.
05:25Go ahead Simon.
05:26In about the cold, the other night I asked you about to Al Pedro
05:30and when you detected her hunger because of the World Cup,
05:34is it cold, sort of similar?
05:36Have you detected that he feels he is trying to prove that his injury was a big season?
05:44My feeling is that he loves the game and he wants to enjoy it.
05:49So once he enjoys it, that's the way he shows it, he transmits it.
05:56So the proof is to enjoy his game and to show his better level.
06:00He has shown it and for sure this year I see him with this desire
06:05and with this goal to have a great season.
06:08And Nicholas Jackson has joined up with the sport today.
06:13Has he got a part in your sport or has that seemed to be assessed?
06:17Yeah, Moj and Nico joined yesterday and yes, in the squad of all the players.
06:25And Nico is part of the squad and we welcome him and we start with him from today.
06:34No, he's okay for tomorrow.
06:36He's okay.
06:37He's okay.
06:37He's okay.
06:37He's okay.
06:38Bobby.
06:39Hi, Joey.
06:40With Matt and Simon, I think there are 10 centre-backs now on Chelsea's post.
06:46I think we asked a similar question the other day, but not specifically on defenders.
06:49How many centre-backs would you want ideally in your squad?
06:53Four or five.
06:55He's accurate enough.
06:58I was going to ask a question.
07:04I love it.
07:06Peter?
07:06Hi, Shaggy.
07:08Obviously Moj's has joined you today.
07:10You were playing the fielding yourself.
07:12What do you make of Moj's as a chance to work with him?
07:15How do you see him?
07:16When I saw him yesterday, I saw I've been missing my mid-thrillers because I really admire
07:23from outside.
07:24You see his quality, his heart, his mentality.
07:31I know the Equatorian players, they are different.
07:37I had heard a lot.
07:38I spoke with him on the phone, but it was the first contact.
07:42He's a top player, for me one of the best holding midfielders in the world, no doubt.
07:48And now he's here.
07:50Now it's time to start working and to help him get improving and getting better.
08:13How would that impact come true?
08:17As your colleague has mentioned, because of the time difference I have read the news,
08:22but I don't have the full information.
08:27I like the way it is in football.
08:30I don't have the whole information to go deep into the detail on everything.
08:36I prefer not to talk too much.
08:38I prefer to keep it.
08:40Once I know it, I will have a more clear opinion about the team.
08:44We've got a couple more if we keep it to Chelsea, please.
08:47We'll go to Michaela at the back.
08:48More than 80,000 fans at a fourth stage tomorrow.
08:52What does it mean to see the support online Chelsea and the global reach for Premier League
08:58over at the other side of the world?
09:00That's the beauty and the special charm of the Premier League.
09:04Wherever you go in the world, Australia or New Zealand or we go next week to Hong Kong
09:10and we feel the support.
09:14We have great welcome, great reception and we are expecting a great atmosphere tomorrow.
09:20That's why the Premier League is so special in the world and that's why it's so engaging
09:25for all the football fans.
09:33I'm sure people have filled you in on about Chelsea's recent dominance over Spurs in the
09:38last few seasons.
09:39Does that make it all the more important even though it's a pre-season game that Chelsea
09:44gets a win tomorrow?
09:45It's a good game.
09:48It will be an exciting game.
09:49We want to play a good game and it's still precision.
09:54So there will be circumstances or they are already planned because it's a friendly game
10:03that probably in a competitive moment you don't have already planned.
10:07So there will be minutes for many players but it's going to be exciting for sure.
10:13Final question from Nizar.
10:14In terms of Cole, how much do you think he needs freedom on the pitch or how much do you
10:19think he needs to sort of give him a plan and fortune?
10:21I think that discipline gives you freedom.
10:27And I think that with clear patterns, clear duties, then you have the capacity to have
10:35the freedom to show your decision-making, to show your talent, to show your quality.
10:42And I think it's important.
10:43But there are these principles that all the players need to respect to make a good team.
10:51I'm sure that all the players believe it because it's the way football is nowadays.
10:56And Cole, Joao, Morgan, Jamie, Dustin, all the attacking players, they need to get involved in this mindset.
11:10And they are.
11:11All right.
11:1280,000 fans at Le Corse Stadium.
11:14How amazing has it been to see that we will love to support Chelsea all the way in Australia?
11:19Yeah, it's been nice.
11:20You know, we didn't really know what to expect because we've never been here.
11:23But to see it the other day and especially tomorrow as it's sold out,
11:26I think it will be good.
11:31How was your summer?
11:33With some time off, some rest, recovery, how are you feeling now?
11:37My summer was great.
11:39You know, I had like seven weeks off of something, which I've never really had.
11:43So it was good to have a holiday with my family and that.
11:45And yeah, I feel fresh.
11:48How have you found working with Njabi as well?
11:51What was your reaction when the club managed to get him as manager?
11:55Because he's probably about as big of a name as they could at the track.
11:59Yeah, it's been good.
12:00Him and his staff have been good.
12:02You know, I prefer fresh air for us players with his ideas and stuff.
12:06So yeah, we're enjoying it.
12:08And obviously, Morgan coming in, do you think?
12:13Presumably you're happy about that.
12:14Yes.
12:15Do you think that's one that can take Chelsea to the next level?
12:19Is that a next level sign?
12:20Yeah, of course.
12:21You know, everyone knows how good he is.
12:24Obviously, he's one of my best friends, so I'm very happy about it.
12:29Is Tossing getting jealous that you've got Morgan from him?
12:34I don't know, I've not asked him.
12:36Yeah, I want to ask him.
12:37Yeah, just in terms of Morgan, were you texting him throughout the deal,
12:41trying to convince him?
12:42How did that sort of play out?
12:43Yeah, I always speak to him, but when I heard that Chelsea were trying to sign him,
12:48that was texting him even more.
12:51He's probably sick of me, but at least he's there now.
12:54What do you think he'll bring?
12:56And Javi said that he thinks you two will play together and complement each other.
13:00Yeah, I think we're two different players.
13:02He's more physical than me, on and off the ball.
13:07He likes to drive with it.
13:08I like to play passes, so yeah, I think we can play well together.
13:12And we played together when we were young anyway, so.
13:14And you said, you know, he's more of a physical player, but you've come back really fit, haven't you,
13:18from your holidays?
13:19I heard about you came coming second on a league test.
13:22Was that through a special training programme, or have you always been like that?
13:26No, I've always been quite fit.
13:27I just mean like stronger driving with the ball and stuff like that.
13:31So, I mean, Joe.
13:32Did you know what to do with yourself having ten weeks off?
13:35Nah, not in the first week.
13:36Was it a bit strange?
13:38Yeah, I didn't know where to go.
13:39I went on holiday and I was thinking, where do I go next?
13:42And I was checking when am I back in.
13:44To be fair, I got bored in like the sixth week.
13:46I was sat in my beer thinking, I want to go back in.
13:49I never thought that.
13:52You said when you heard about Morgan coming that you started messaging him even more.
13:56Who told you that was happening?
13:57Was it something the club sort of said?
13:59That we're really going to try and do this?
14:02Probably Morgan telling you.
14:04Nah, I was just speaking to Marles.
14:05I think he told me straight away when he told me he was coming.
14:11And obviously it didn't get leaked or no one even knew.
14:14Only just me and him and probably the club, the high people at the club.
14:18So, it was a difficult secret to keep, but I kept it.
14:23You obviously would have hoped to have had a slightly different summer.
14:27Did you watch much of the World Cup?
14:29Yeah, I watched summer.
14:30Yeah.
14:32Obviously I was away and the times were a bit mad in America.
14:35So, it was a bit difficult, but I did watch.
14:38Did you manage yourself in Mexico?
14:40I did, but then I fell asleep at half-time.
14:46You obviously have a lot of drive going into any season.
14:49Does not being there add to that in terms of motivation?
14:53Do you need that as motivation?
14:55Yeah, naturally it's like anything.
14:57If someone tells you you're essentially not good enough to get in the squad,
15:01then you're going to think, alright, it's a sight of whatever then,
15:05and try and go that extra harder.
15:08Sorry, we need to move on. Sorry.
15:11Simon?
15:12Touching on what led to that decision was the difficult season you had with your injury,
15:18I think probably the first major injury you had.
15:21Yeah.
15:21How did you cope with it and everyone looking at you expecting you to be cold
15:27but you thought it seemed really difficult?
15:31I don't really know how to deal with it.
15:33The first few months of me being injured, I just wanted to go out and play,
15:38which I probably shouldn't have done because obviously I couldn't play
15:41how I wanted to play.
15:42But yeah, it was a bad season personally with injuries and stuff,
15:46but I feel good now.
15:48Seven weeks obviously helped and now I'm ready to go again.
15:52Was surgery ever talked about as an option?
15:56Yeah, I went to see, I can't remember where I went,
16:00I think it was Sweden or Denmark, one of them countries anyway,
16:04to see a doctor.
16:06We did speak about it but didn't end up getting it.
16:10And on a more light light topic, back to Morgan,
16:13the inevitable, as part of your chats with each other,
16:17the celebration, I mean, is it going to be,
16:19you sort of said, hands off, this is my celebration,
16:21or are you really planning a tag team?
16:24No, it's not.
16:25Well, this is just a media disc.
16:28We've not even spoke about it.
16:30You know, nah, it's just one of them.
16:32He does it, I do it.
16:34I've trademarked it.
16:34So, if he tries to do anything, you know,
16:41the bailiff's at his door, but...
16:44Nah, we'll do it together, I think.
16:46You called ten goals the other day, it was very entertaining, obviously,
16:50but I'm guessing you don't want to concede four again.
16:53And Chelsea, Tottenham, does it have a bit of feeling about it,
16:55even if it is a pre-season friendly in Australia?
16:58Yeah, I think he'll always have that feeling,
17:00but, again, it's just a pre-season game,
17:02and we just need to get ready for the season.
17:06Midway there.
17:06Just another sort of lighter question.
17:08I saw you commented on a Western Sydney player,
17:10Jared, who got your jersey the other night.
17:13What's it like coming and playing?
17:14They're obviously professional, they put a great effort in that night,
17:17but there is that fandom here when you guys come.
17:21What's that like as a player, and is it nice to see,
17:23I guess, the admiration that you get from a few years across the other side of the world?
17:26Yeah, he asked me at the time if we wanted to swap shirts,
17:30and I said, yeah.
17:31I didn't know he was a Chelsea fan until after the game,
17:34and then I'd seen it all over, like, Instagram and stuff,
17:36so I'm glad that I gave my shirt to him, to be honest.
17:39Yeah, it was funny.
17:40Yeah.
17:41We just saw a training the other day,
17:42you're joking around with Marty, Sidney Bourne.
17:44It's the first time we've seen him in the year.
17:46I believe you've had a bit to do with him since he's been through the academy,
17:49and what do you feel about your relationship with him,
17:51and just what you make of his talent at such an age?
17:54Yeah, no, he's funny, he's confident, he's only 16,
17:58but he's got all the attributes to play at this club.
18:03Even next season he could possibly be ready,
18:05but it's on him if he wants to work hard and keep focused,
18:10but he definitely has all the talent to do what he wants.
18:15Robbie?
18:17Michael, when you had those seven weeks off,
18:19was Javi ever on the phone to you, talking to you?
18:23Yeah, when I got told I weren't going to World Cup,
18:27obviously I think he knew, so he just messaged me.
18:30What sort of thing he said?
18:32I can't even remember what he said, I think he said,
18:34just like, don't worry about it and whatever, you know, the normal stuff.
18:37Was that nice because obviously your new manager had given you support earlier?
18:42Yeah, it was, it was nice.
18:45Yeah, Karl, I just wanted to ask about the first conversations with Javi in general,
18:49he talks about when he sees you within his team,
18:53and when he watches playing.
18:55Yeah, I've spoken to him, he said he sees me in the ten,
18:59in the pockets, close to the striker, so yeah, we'll see.
19:05With everything here, are you going to use that really to strive you?
19:09How much does it matter to you to get back into the team in the team?
19:14I'm not really thinking about that now, to be honest.
19:18I'm just looking forward to the season with Chelsea,
19:20and to be honest, I'm not too bothered about.
19:24And just in terms of the group as well,
19:25you made a sign of Maxence McGrath just signed as well,
19:28you signed Walter Rodgers for a long run,
19:29does that give you renewed confidence in the team?
19:32Because obviously that season was quite difficult,
19:34the direction of travel to come for the season,
19:36to see those guys come?
19:38Well, yeah, when you sign good players,
19:41obviously your team's going to be, should be better,
19:44so hopefully it'll be a good season.
