00:11Producer Simon Afram's lawyers say the filmmaker delivered an unencrypted master copy of the
00:16World War II drama Fortitude to Netflix at the company's request. After investing more than
00:21$45 million in the production, Afram was in the process of selling the movie to Netflix or another
00:26distributor. The lawsuit says the plaintiffs were informed through a Netflix email nine days later
00:31that someone stole a good amount of drives, including the one containing Fortitude. The
00:36producer argues the film's value has been destroyed because distributors are unlikely to buy a film that
00:41could appear on piracy sites. He adds, Netflix should have secured the hard drive. In a statement,
00:46Netflix says it, quote, disputes any claim that it bears the risk of loss for a film delivered without
00:51the proper industry standards safeguards. The company adds, we take content security seriously
00:56and have taken extra measures to support the filmmaker and his team.
