The life of experimental film curator Sally Dixon, a trailblazer in the "film as art" movement and creator of the film program at the Carnegie Museum of Art.
Transcript
00:08I got into film. It's where I was living. I was out in the country. So I was filming my
00:14sons,
00:15these little, little boys. I was making movies. Experimental filmmaking as an art form. A lot
00:23of people didn't understand it. It was like a foreign language to them. They didn't have the
00:27patience. I mean, this was a curious grassroots movement of people. It wasn't even clear whether
00:33they wanted to make documentary films or experimental films, but they wanted to make
00:37their own movies. And they had gathered around Sally. We'll look at this collection of films
00:43tonight and maybe we can discuss, not maybe, but let us discuss afterwards what we've seen
00:50and what your feelings are about these films. She got excited by seeing some of Brackage
00:57films and she wanted to share them with others. His Pittsburgh trilogy is probably one of the
01:05most important documentary projects ever made. We wouldn't have this masterpiece without the
01:11work that she did behind the scenes. She could get a cameraman into the autopsy room,
01:16for God's sake. She had this unerring eye and then this boundless generosity of spirit.
01:23She could speak passionately, intelligently, fervently for the form of film art.
01:31She never directly told me why she chose film, but I think film chose her.
01:47She never directly told me for the moment where she was in her moments. She could be inspired by real
01:50story hours, but she lost her hours because at this point in short, she's worth it.
01:57And if we continue watching her then. She took off by Thecube.com through a Rent- maar tout
01:58the mandant of the retzogen file to a Kalani. Herne Field lamp did not look like it. She took over
01:59and
01:59her other people's pant hearts with all the work that they were in. She used to be a clip pidgin.
01:59So as we don't know, most of the time, the main story women went through
02:00to talk about how cheaply of her. She took off ofsek Hunt and sea Damased Naatko brothers and Will
