00:01Two bank officials tell the impeachment court they found Vice President Sara Duterte's office's
00:06encashment of large funds unusual. Senator Judge Pia Cayetano posts a spliced video of House
00:12Prosecutor Chell Diokno that Diokno says was taken out of context. The DOJ approves the filing
00:18of multiple criminal cases against lawyer Levi Baligod and the so-called Maleta Boys.
00:23Senator Ping Laxon submits evidence to the Ombudsman of alleged irregularities in flood
00:27control projects linked to Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano. And Filipina tennis star Alex
00:33Ayala upsets Olympic champion Zhang Chinuan in the Washington Open.
00:45Two bank officials take the witness stand and say they found Vice President Sara Duterte's office's
00:50encashment of large funds unusual. Violeta Constantino and Ninita Camposano are former branch managers of
00:57Land Bank of the Philippines. They are the prosecution's first witnesses as it presents its
01:01case on Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds Wednesday July 29. Constantino managed the
01:07Shaw Bolivar branch of Land Bank that handled the OVP's account. It encashed 500 million pesos in
01:12four checks during an eight-month period from December 2022 to July 2023. She says it was the
01:18first time in her 32-year career in the banking industry to oversee the encashment of such a huge amount.
01:36The testimony aligns with the previous affidavit of self-confessed Sara Duterte bagman,
01:41Ramil Madriaga. He said the funds handed over to him were the 125 million pesos in confidential
01:47funds of the OVP for 2022 which were supposedly disbursed in less than 24 hours.
01:53Camposano meantime says it was the first time for the education department to encash 37 million
01:57pesos over the course of five months.
02:00Normal ba yung pag-withdraw ng 37 million cash sa inyong branch?
02:09With Land Bank DepEd po, for government agencies, unusual po ang amount ng pag-withdraw.
02:25Senator Judge Pia Cayetano posts a spliced video of House Prosecutor Chell Diocno that borders on
02:31disinformation. The Akbayan Congressman was responding to Pia's brother Alan Peter Cayetano's
02:36questions on summoning Vice President Sara Duterte's financial records. But the video omits the rest of
02:41Diocno's explanation, making it seem the prosecution admitted it was accusing Duterte without evidence.
02:46The post also carries the overlay text, nagbabakasakali lang, walang mga ebidensya pero
02:51nag-aakusa na. In response, Diocno says, with all due respect to the Senator Judge at para
02:57hindi maligaw ang publiko, ito po ang konteksto at kumpleto na sinabi ko. Diocno repeats what he
03:02told the impeachment court last July 20. He clarified then that the prosecution relied on
03:07anti-money laundering council records that allegedly showed billions of pesos passing through the
03:11accounts of Duterte and her husband.
03:13Yun po ang ibig sabihin ng phishing expedition. When the party requesting information does not know
03:20what might be produced, dito po malaki ang pagkaiba ng sitwasyon. Maalala po ninyo, during the
03:28hearings before the Committee on Justice, the Executive Director of the Anti-Money Laundering Council
03:33testified and produced documents showing that from 2007 up to the present, 6.7 billion pesos ang dumaan po
03:44sa account ni Vice President Sara Duterte.
03:48Meantime, House Prosecution Spokesperson Jay Tolosa says the post is concerning and alarming.
03:54But ang mas nakakabahala dito ay baka magbigay ito ng impresyon sa ating mga kababayan na merong members
04:03ng impeachment court na nagkaroon na ng pre-judgment.
04:08The civil society group Tindig Pilipinas also writes to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges
04:13asking it to investigate Kayatano and the video she shared.
04:17The Department of Justice approves the filing of multiple criminal cases against lawyer Levy
04:22Baligod and the so-called Maleta Boys, who are alleged to be the bodyguards of the fugitive
04:27Zaldico. Based on the DOJ-approved resolutions, the 18 Maleta Boys will be charged with 10 separate
04:33cases including 6 counts of cyber libel and 4 counts of perjury. Baligod, who handles the
04:38bodyguards, is indicted for 4 counts of cyber libel. DOJ Spokesperson Rafael Martinez says
04:44three of Baligod's charges are joint with the Maleta Boys and one in an individual capacity.
04:49The DOJ says the findings were reached after an evaluation of the evidence submitted by
04:53the parties during preliminary investigation. Former Senator Antonio Trillanes filed two
04:58sets of complaints in March against the alleged bodyguards and Baligod.
05:03Senator Ping Laxon says he submitted evidence on alleged irregularities in flood control projects
05:08in Taguig City to the Office of the Ombudsman for review. Laxon's allegations involve projects
05:13linked to Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano, which include possible double billing
05:18and duplicate funding. Cayetano denies claims of ghost infrastructure projects in Taguig City
05:23and called for investigations into similar projects in other Metro Manila cities.
05:27Laxon says the documents and testimonies were submitted to the anti-graft body for possible
05:32motu proprio investigation. He adds, authorities were also looking into possible charges of plunder,
05:37malversation, and violations of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
05:41Cayetano says he welcomes the move and would address the allegations at the proper venue and time.
05:48Filipina tennis star Alex Ayala outlasts Olympic champion Zhang Chinwen in the Washington Open in
05:54the United States on Wednesday, July 29, Manila time. Ayala rallied from a setdown to defeat the
05:59former World No. 4 with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 victory in her debut. The victory allows Ayala
06:05to adventure
06:05loss to Zhang in the 2023 Asian Games. Ayala earns her spot in the round of 16 and she is
06:11supposed to
06:11face a similar foe, defending champion Leila Fernandez of Canada. This will be Ayala's second
06:16time to face Fernandez this year. The 23-year-old Southpaw has Filipino roots, courtesy of her Phil-Canadian
06:22mother. And that's today's wrap. I'm JC Gutinga. Thank you for watching. Click the link below for the full story.
