00:13In the Sasak language, bau means to catch, and nyale means sea worms.
00:18These sea worms are long and come in green, yellow, and orange colors.
00:23Apart from being made into pepes, these sea worms are even consumed directly by the community.
00:30This tradition is usually held every 20th of the 10th month in the traditional Sasak calendar.
00:36or exactly 5 days after the full moon.

00:43Local people believe that nyale is the incarnation of Princess Mandalika,
00:47a beautiful woman who is fought over by many princes from various kingdoms in Lombok.

00:56It is said that in the end Princess Mandalika chose to jump into the sea and disappeared without a trace.
