Author Emily Henry discusses the hilarious 'condom scene' she championed for the 'People We Meet on Vacation' movie adaptation, and why it was her favorite scene to write.
Transcript
00:00I really wanted the condom scene to be in there.
00:02And I was like, I understand if we can't get it
00:04because it does not move the story forward.
00:07But it was my favorite scene to write.
00:09And I was so thrilled that Brett found a way
00:12to ensure that happened.
00:15The lambskin.
00:16Oh my god.
00:17But really, the main thing was that I just wanted it
00:21to stay true to the characters.
00:22I wanted any change to still make sense
00:25with who I believe these characters are.
00:27That's the thing that bothers me in an adaptation.
00:30It's not the little granular changes.
00:33It's when I feel like this fundamentally changes the character.
00:37Yeah, it's like, did they even read the book?
00:37Yeah, or they didn't love the book.
00:40They didn't love the book is how it feels.
00:42And that's OK.
00:43You don't have to love the book.
00:44But if you're working on the movie,
00:45you probably should have loved the book.
00:48Because don't make art that you don't believe in.
