A man has been jailed for 12 years after more than 2,000 litres of a “date-rape drug” – linked to spiking and the chemsex scene – were found in a storage container rented by him, police have said.

00:00Sixty one-year-old Ahur Rama Bark Fatty was arrested in March following an investigation into the transportation of large
00:10quantities of the date-rape drug gamma-butyrol acetone, or GBL, from Manchester to London, alongside the supply of crystal
00:19meth from London to Manchester, according to the Metropolitan Police.
00:24Officers using phone data to establish Fatty's involvement then searched a rented storage container where they discovered 2,256 litres
00:34of GBL, the approximate equivalent of 10 full bathtubs, in 188 boxes containing one-litre bottles.
00:42This was one of the largest ever seizures of GBL in London.
00:47At one of three addresses linked to Fatty, two in Ealing and one in Southall, officers also found a firearm,
00:55ammunition, £100,000 in cash and 456 grams of crystal meth.
01:00Fatty of Willowbrook Road in Southall pleaded guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs,
01:09possession of a firearm and ammunition and possession of criminal property at Isleworth Crown Court on 17 April.
01:16He was sentenced to 12 years in prison at the same court on Thursday.
01:21The Mets also said they understand the sensitivities and concerns around recreational drug-taking in the chem-sex scene.
