00:09Light Industrial Park, Alostar, and the arrest of seven Chinese nationals.
00:14KERDA Police Chief Datuk Azli Abusha said the raid, conducted at 1.40pm on July 20, followed intelligence that the
00:23premises were being used as a scam call centre.
00:27The seven men, aged between 21 and 30, are believed to have identified potential victims before passing their details to
00:34other syndicate members.
00:37Investigations found they were recruited in China through overseas job advertisements on the Douyin app before being brought to Malaysia
00:44and paid between 2,000 ringgit and 3,000 ringgit a month to target victims in Japan.
00:50The syndicate is believed to have been operating since mid-June, using the Line and Langmate messaging apps to create
00:56fake identities and lure victims into online romance scams.
01:01Data recovered from seized computers showed that at least 19 Japanese nationals had fallen victim to the syndicate.
01:09Police are still determining the total number of victims and tracking the group's masterminds.
01:14Police seized 58 items worth about 50,000 ringgit, including 34 mobile phones, 6 laptops, a monitor, a CPU, a
01:23router, and a modem.
01:24The suspects have been remanded from July 21 to 24 to assist investigations under the Penal Code as well as
01:33the Immigration Act 1959-63.
01:37Police have also identified a Malaysian believed to own the premises used by the syndicate.
