A Florida village of 155 homes was built for people who are at least 55 years old. Now, some residents want one woman out, saying she is too young to live there. Bethany Michel's father, Paul, bought a home in Freedom at Arbor Mill in Jacksonville, Florida in 2019. She moved in to care for the ailing vet when he took a turn for the worse. Her father died in 2023 and in his will, he bequeathed her the house. The homeowners association voted unanimously that the 28-year-old daughter has to go. #news

00:00It's a popular retirement community in Florida. The rule, you have to be 55 and older to live
00:06there. But this 28-year-old calls it home and doesn't want to move. As Allison Hall reports,
00:12the board is now voting to determine her fate. It's a beautiful village of 155 homes. With one
00:20catch, you have to be at least 55 years old. Now some residents want this woman out, saying
00:27she's just too young to live there. I'm 100% being forced out. Bethany Michelle's father, Paul,
00:33bought a home in Freedom at Arbor Mill in Jacksonville, Florida in 2019. She moved in
00:39to care for the ailing vet when he took a turn for the worse. He was a really high-risk
00:43patient. He
00:44was terminally ill. He was on dialysis. Her dad died in 2023, and in his will, he bequeathed her the
00:51house. Weeks later, she says the Homeowners Association sent her this document, stating
00:57each occupied home shall at all times be occupied by at least one person 55 years
01:03of age or older. Bethany is 28. The Homeowners Association held a special
01:08meeting to decide what to do. I didn't lie here to put up with people under 55. We all
01:14bought here for peace and quiet and enjoyed better days of our life. There were also
01:18residents supporting Bethany. This person has not given us one moment heartburn. I don't even know
01:28she's here. What are we doing? Then the vote was taken, and the board voted five to zero. Bethany
01:36has to go. It's time for her to leave. 74-year-old Teresa Beaver lives on the same street as
01:42Bethany.
01:43Her daughter Jessica wonders why Bethany wants to live here. I don't understand personally why a
01:4828-year-old would want to live with people that are over 55. It just doesn't make sense to me.
01:54I have a right and every right to stay in my home. The board voted to hire an attorney to
02:01force
02:01Bethany out. Now, all 155 homeowners must cough up $1,000 each to pay the legal bill, and that,
02:09ironically, includes Bethany herself.
02:18The board voted to hire an attorney for a free budget for a carry of $1,000 each to pay,
02:18and that, ironically, is to pay $1,000 to pay $9,000 each.
02:19The board voted to hire an attorney for a royal return for the budget to pay for $2,000 each
02:19to pay.
02:19I think that is the first 177 to pay for $2,000 each to make $1,000 each to pay
02:20for $1,000.
