00:00I'm very delighted to be here participating at this opening of this Taiwan plan from Wistron
00:05that we'll be partnering with NVIDIA.
00:09This is one of the examples of Taiwan-U.S. increasing partnership in these last few years.
00:21And what better than have Simon Lin and Genseng Wang here to highlight the examples of Taiwan-
00:29U.S.
00:29Especially for Taiwan-U is America.
00:32Very proud to have that.
00:34But also, this celebration, July is the celebration, a month of celebration.
00:40We had earlier this year, earlier this month, July 4th, the first happy birthday to the United
00:45States on its 250th birthday as a three-year democratic republic.
00:51And so Taiwan is celebrating this year our 30th anniversary of direct presidential elections.
00:57And this type of like-minded values that we share together is part of the reason why you
01:04and I, Taiwan and the United States, work so well as partners because of these common values,
01:09respect for law, IP, et cetera.
01:12But also, this past weekend, we celebrated the finals of World Cup, right?
01:18Very excited, very excited games.
01:23But Taiwan is not really good at playing soccer.
01:26We have never passed Asian qualifiers.
01:32But Taiwan has been present, and most of the last 10 to 20 years, we've been present at
01:40every single World Cup in the way of the jerseys that the national teams wear.
01:45You know, it is proprietary textile that makes from B&T bubbles, et cetera.
01:51But this is the strength of Taiwan.
01:53This is Taiwan's many champions that work in the world and nowadays with our partnership
02:01with the United States in trade, in technology, in many other fields, in education.
02:06We're working very hard with, for example, Texas A&M University System and the University
02:12of Texas System to work together with our top 11 Taiwanese tech universities to generate
02:18STEM talents and semiconductor talents as much as possible to build your factories, every
02:24growing factories that are being settled here and in Taiwan.
02:28The U.S. and Taiwan have been partners for so long.
02:33In the past, people asked about Taiwan.
02:36It was, oh, it's the New Island, the first island chain, facing these difficulties, Taiwan
02:43Straits.
02:44People asked why Taiwan matters.
02:47It's 10,000 miles away.
02:50Why should we matter here in the United States?
02:52Well, it matters because of what we're seeing today, all of this collaboration and this wonderful
02:58stack step, I don't know how you make it, but it's just a wonderful machines and it's
03:03ever
03:03growing need for this AI revolution to work together.
03:07And there's a reason why our foreign direct investments 12 years ago, when 85% of API was
03:15going to China, nowadays is probably less than 2% to China.
03:20Where is that money going?
03:21It's coming here.
03:22More than 50% of APIs coming to the United States.
03:25So examples like this, examples like KSNC in Arizona and all over the United States, I've
03:32been in Kansas celebrating the Taiwanese battery factory, I've been in Puerto Rico celebrating
03:38a biotech company, et cetera.
03:40So you will see more of Taiwan for the days and years to come.
03:44And we celebrate this, again, because of our common values and our like-mindedness and
03:51our wish to work so that AI will be a tool for the good of humanity.
03:59And there's a reason why now we're fourth largest trading partner.
04:03And there's a reason why last year we sold more stuff to you than China did.
04:08So this partnership is strong, it is stronger.
04:11Don't listen to all these doubters about Taiwan, it doesn't matter, or in Taiwan saying the
04:17United States is not a global partner, it's all misinformation.
04:22The bond between Taiwan and the United States is very strong, and this is just a very good
04:27example for that.
04:27So congratulations, many successes, and good health to all, as we say in Taiwan when we
04:33end our speeches.
04:35Thank you.
04:35Thank you.
