00:21It's actually a made-for-TV movie that first aired in 1989.
00:24It is Alan Clarke's The Firm.
00:26A stunning spotlight on football hooliganism in a depressing time of Margaret Thatcher's
00:30Britain, starring a stunning Gary Oldman as the lead, her husband, her father, an estate
00:34agent in the week, and the top boy of the inner-city crew at weekends.
00:41So I think my favourite football movie is not a movie.
00:44It's one episode of Doctor Who where, for some reason, the doctor plays football.
00:47And it turns out that Matt Smith is a very good footballer.
00:51And unfortunately for a guy like me from Burnley, Matt Smith is a Blackbird Rovers fan.
00:55So that's a bit devastating.
00:56I don't know why it's my favourite football thing, really.
00:59I just have no interest in football.
01:02Ted Lasso is one of my favourite TV shows in general, not even just football based.
01:08And I think a lot of that is to do with the characters, the writing, the actors, the stories.
01:14But also, I think by framing it through the lens of a character who themselves doesn't really
01:20understand how football works, it then teaches the audience by teaching the character.
01:26And I think I've genuinely learnt more about the workings of football through watching Ted Lasso than I ever knew
01:34before.
01:34And it actually made me more interested in watching the football, thanks to watching Ted Lasso.

01:46Carlyle set in Liverpool.
01:47It's the film that made Samuel L. Jackson fall in love with the city, with the football club and also
01:53Robert Carlyle kind of rocking like vintage football fashion, even though at the time it was the shirt that came
01:58out the year that the movie was out.
02:00But he's really stylish in it, and that's how you wear a football top. So, yeah. Also, Reece Ethan's is
02:06insane in it.
