00:18It's one of the hardest things psychologically to do as a driver, to get yourself re-engaged with the circuit

00:27I'm sure the news is beginning to filter around to the crowd, and everyone will be making their way to
00:34the nearest spot for the restart, because you can see at the top of screen the race will resume at
00:4010.48, so in just over four minutes' time we will have this Formula 2 feature race back going again,
00:47and there's going to be a bit of a change now in terms of this race, because we did have
00:53a big gap between those who are on what is effectively the alternative strategy.
00:57The top ten were breaking clear, particularly Joshua Dirksen, 35 seconds clear, but now Noel Leon has made two pit
01:07stops.
01:07He came in at the start on the super soft tyres, put on an older set of medium tyres, and
01:12when that safety car came out, Campos were very quick to respond.
01:16They brought him in and they've essentially put him to the front of the queue on what we could call
01:22the effective lead of the race down in P11.
01:24Yeah, so Noel Leon, of course, with that penalty which came across both races, started at the back of the
01:32field and has effectively now done a two-stop race, having started on the super soft, and then he's come
01:43in, and he's already come in once at this point,
01:46but this will form his mandatory pit stop, where he puts on his second set of medium compound tyres.
01:54He'd already come in and relinquished the set of super soft tyres that he started on.
02:01While the race is suspended, they can change wheels and tyres, but it doesn't count as their mandatory pit stop.
02:09So, basically, everybody down from Dirksen to those who have come in but not actually achieved their mandatory pit stop
02:21within the six-lap window,
02:23everyone down to Leon, effectively, will have to pit again in the second half of the race.
02:28Precisely that, and for Dirksen, this is a really unfortunate scenario because he built quite the gap, hadn't he?
02:35But now that gap will be completely reduced.
02:39Rafa Camera will now be looking at Noel Leon to try and get past him on the restart.
02:46We've seen a driver go from 22nd to 1st before.
02:49You'll remember Gabriel Portoleto did it back at Monza and did so with really good reactions under a safety car
02:56coming out,
02:56did a pit stop and put himself all the way up the order and went on to win the race.
03:02Yeah, it's happened in Formula 2.
03:04It also happens if drivers dive into the pit lane sometimes just before a virtual safety car.
03:12We get this kind of strategic interplay play out where drivers find themselves being bolted up the order.
03:23Yeah, Noel Leon appearing to be absolutely in the pound seat at the moment with where he sits in the
03:33race.
03:33Although he'll still have to battle with Camera and Dunn when they get back going again.
03:40Looking at 35 seconds, realistically, it's one of the longer pit stop processes here in Spa.
03:46The pit lane's quite slow.
03:48A lot of corners in it.
03:49Of course, you've got that hairpin at the end of the pit lane, which delays your re-entry onto the
03:56circuit,
03:56especially when you're doing so on cold tyres.
03:59So that's why the pit stop here are longer than the sort of normal 32, 33 seconds, which we allow
04:06at other venues.
04:08We now also have Gabriele Mini.
04:11He's one of the drivers that came in and he's effectively served that five-second time penalty he got for
04:19causing a collision at the start.
04:21So it's worked well in his favour as well down in 18th place.
04:26He no longer has that five-second penalty.
04:28He served it in the pit stop when he came in to complete his mandatory pit stop.
04:32And now he's in a pretty good position to make progress here and get towards Nikola Sollef.
04:39So drivers can be held in the pits when they do their mandatory pit stop.
04:45If they get a five-second penalty and rather than taking it at the end of the race,
04:50they can hold that penalty in the pit lane.
04:56That's obviously what Gabriele Mini has done.
04:59He's out of the running, unfortunately, a little bit.
05:04Having had that contact in the early laps, difficult stuff.
05:08And they were really struggling to get the tyres up to temperature.
05:14Precisely that, they're making their way out.
05:16This is the risk of the alternative strategy as well, isn't it?
05:19If we have safety cars that come out at the wrong time or red flags,
05:24then it really works against you.
05:28But we can see drivers take real advantage of it, like in the case of Noel Leon as well.
05:34Back out onto the track then.
05:35It looks like we're going to have a race of 24 minutes on the clock.
05:41So that's how long is left.
05:43We've got the lap counter there, about 10 of 25.
05:47But we have the clock rolling on the timing screen.
05:5024 minutes remain in this race.
05:53Yeah, so 24 minutes then in order to go racing.
05:59That is not quite enough, is it, to complete the full 25-lap distance?
06:07But we have to get past 18 laps to get to the full points available.
06:14And I think we will do that.
06:17So that's good news.
06:19So race control will confirm.
06:20It is a rolling start to resume the race.
06:26We're going to watch Joshua Dirksen take them to the line.
06:29The man who did so so strongly yesterday to take victory in the feature race,
06:36in the sprint race, I should say.
06:37At the end of that one, handled a restart and absorbed the pressure from Martinis Stenshawn.
06:48Interesting and technical Formula 2 race there.
06:50You've now got the time remaining, which has arrived at the top of the screen.
06:57So that will be the limitation of the number of racing laps.

07:02You can see Noel Leop now elevated himself to the front of the queue of those who have stopped.

07:26John Bennett Verone was closing in on Dirksen before that red flag.
07:31We've had a lengthy stoppage after the crash for Van Hoopen.
07:34He's out the car.

07:36So now we focus back on this feature race.

07:42Rafa Kamara started on pole.
07:45We'll be looking to get by Noel Leop.
07:47So two battles to watch as we resume the race.
07:50One for the overall lead, and then one for the lead of those who have completed their mandatory stop.

09:10So this is the fight for third in that queue of those who've done their mandatory stop.

09:21He has made that front wing change under the red flag in pit lane.
09:25He'll be looking to move his way forward.
09:27He was not happy with Rafa Kamara, the move that he tried to complete around the outside of last source.
09:33But now back racing, oh, and just catching the car coming through Poo on there.
09:37Nikola Solov has had a tricky race so far.
09:40Sitting with that new front wing, and he will hope that will give him some performance back.
09:45He needs to try to make progress here.
09:47He's got an opportunity to take good points in a damage limitation weekend.

10:32So Noel Leon then, with the use of that safety car and a bit of quick thinking from Campos,
10:37has put himself with a great option here to take a fabulous result away.
10:41But he's got to make his way through the traffic.

10:44And he's looking on the way up to Eau Rouge.
10:46This is a race through the traffic now for these drivers.

10:53We've got Leon there in the white Campos.
10:55In the yellow Invicta.
10:56That is Rafa Camera who started on pole position.
10:59And he's now going to use the toe to go by Kian Shields.
11:02They'll have DRS next time up that Camel Straight.
11:05And he's having to get his elbows out to complete that move.
11:08That's held up Shields.
11:09He's now going to lose a place to Dunn.
11:11And Intra Puvezak having a look into Malmedy.
11:14But that's opened the door for Solov.
11:15Switched back move on the exit.
11:17But into the Brussels hairpin.

11:20And now he has Rafael Villegomez going round the outside.

11:38It could have got so nasty on the outside of Jackie Hicks.
11:42But it does look like Nikola Solov has a little bit more performance now.

11:51Gabriele Mini making his way through.
11:53He's the second of the Alpine liveried cars in the queue that we are currently following.
11:58He's now trying to catch championship leader Nikola Solov.

12:05Right behind Emerson Fittipaldi heading up towards Blanchemont.
12:08Is he going to be left or right?
12:09He's going to have to go right.
12:11But Nole Leone will tuck back in behind as Fittipaldi is closing in on Roman Belinsky.
12:16DRS now enabled.
12:17They'll have that down to the bussed-up chicane and up towards the first corner.
12:21And Camara is down the inside of Nole Leone there.
12:24Leone defending and Camara now under attack from Dunn.
12:27We have what could be the top three in this race all in a line there.
12:31And Leone's going to have to defend from Camara who's trying to get down the inside into La Source.
12:36He's going to go all the way around the outside.
12:38Great driving from Rafa Camara.
12:40Leone held up on the inside behind Fittipaldi.
12:43And Camara has taken it around the outside at La Source.
12:46And should complete this move into Eruge.
12:49And does superb driving from Camara.
12:51Yeah, Leone's going to be pinched.
12:52But now DRS is enabled after the restart.
12:55Will they both get it?
12:56Yes, they will because of the traffic ahead.
12:58And that allows Camara to keep the position as they make their way up to Lecom.
13:02He's trying to find a way through on the sole remaining dams.
13:05And he does.
13:05Plenty of cars now between Camara and Leone for what will become the lead of the race.
13:10And Dunn's gone round the outside there of Fittipaldi to get himself ahead.
13:14Oh, and into the gravel there goes Fittipaldi.
13:17Will we see drivers ahead like Dirksen coming into pit lane now?
13:21The yellow flag has gone out because that will surely be a safety car.
13:25Meanwhile, Leone is getting the switch back towards Jackie Hicks corner.
13:29That's Alex Dunn ahead defending from him there.
13:32This is for second place in this race now effectively.
13:36And Leone to the outside of Puan.
13:37Safety car out.
13:38Prepare for a very busy pit lane.
13:40Yeah, safety car's been called.
13:41So anyone who has now not done their mandatory pit stop yet
13:45will surely come pouring into the pit lane.
13:48It's still a reasonably long way to go, Chris.
13:50On the super soft tyre.
13:52They were struggling over this distance at the beginning of the race,
13:55but they're going to have no option.
13:57Yep, they're going to have to come in.
13:58You've got to remember, this is now a time race.
14:01Let's have a look back at this first, though, Alex, and then we'll come to that.

14:06This is going to be the move on.
14:07And Leone puts the car down the inside.

14:15And then he's going to be forced to commit to the outside.
14:18Luckily, the AIX is going to be on the apex.

14:28And then it's a drag race to the base of Eau Rouge.
14:31That is why he is a champion in Formula Regional and Formula 3.

14:38And now this is where Dunn uses the DRS to go by Leone.
14:41And Camara puts two cars between himself and those behind.
14:46Dunn side by side with Leone, who's once again pinched behind the AIX.
14:50And Dunn goes around the outside to make the move.
14:52And that is where Emerson Fittipaldi finds himself in the grab.
14:56Yeah, just got hustled out in the crossfire there, really, didn't he?
15:01As you predicted, Chris,
15:02everybody who has not yet completed their mandatory stop will do so now.
15:06We'll get another roll of the dice for these guys.
15:09But the field is so packed up now because of the red flag,
15:12the benefit of pitting under the safety car is in some way mitigated.
15:16Normally, the earliest arrival time is what these drivers are hoping for,
15:20to give themselves track position.
15:22But the field is too close.
15:23And we haven't seen the super soft tires performing very well, have we?
15:29So these drivers, it's a case of whether they can take them to the end.
15:35The clock will keep running as the safety car is out.
15:38We'll see how long is left when we get going.
15:41It will be a handful of laps, I'd say, at most.
15:44But will they be able to use those super soft tires on lower fuel to get by the cars ahead?

15:58Just looking down the order, and I think it will be, it will be Dirksen, won't it?

16:18They'll be praying this safety car lasts long enough to put them in the window for that super soft, where
16:24it's usable to the end of the race.
16:25Realistically, though, at the start, Chris, on full fuel, they didn't look that much quicker than the medium, did they?
16:30No, not at all.
16:31And I'd say two laps, and we saw them disappearing.
16:35So, yeah, and the safety car's ending.
16:38Well, they wanted another lap there, because a lap behind the safety car around Spa is very long.
16:43But now they'll have to take them for the remaining 13 minutes of this race.
16:49Yeah, safety car ending is a disaster, I think, for Dirksen.
16:52Well, let's see.
16:54We've damned the alternative strategy in the bus, and then seen drivers like Oli Gertha arrive on the podium and
17:03had to eat our words.
17:04You never know what's going to go on with the fuel load burnt down.
17:08What we do know is we finally have an order, Chris, at the front of the field.
17:12We promise you the drivers leading the race are now really leading the race.
17:17Camera is in the lead from Dunn, Leon Intropuvuzak and Solov, and that is the true order for the end
17:22of this motor race, 12 minutes to run at Spa.

18:38The pit stops have worked out nicely for Colton, Hertha as well.
18:41He's been vaulted up and is now looking at Villa-Gomez for seventh place.
18:45And Dirksen was looking at a move as well.

18:49He's gone round the outside of Rotomo, Miata.
18:52So Dirksen has made one place on those super soft tyres.
18:55But you're right, it's Hertha now trying to get by Villa-Gomez.
18:59He's had a really good race so far as Colton Hertha.
19:03Now, camera is trying to break the one-second barrier to Dunn and break the DRS.
19:08Dunn under all sorts of pressure from Noel-Leon.
19:10Yeah, Solov sitting fourth now ahead of Intropuvuzak.
19:14So let's see what he's saying.
19:16We have two track limits.
19:18All cars in front have three.

19:22So they're on the limit of track limits, penalties as well.
19:26That can attract a five-second penalty.

20:27Now, Noel Leon has been noted for track limits.
20:30I don't know if that's going to lead to a penalty for him.
20:33But he has been noted for it.
20:34We'll keep our eye on the timing screens for that.

20:41He has Cushmine right behind.

21:06You can see he's under investigation, and there's usually not much to investigate when it comes

21:12Colton Hertha, likewise, under investigation for track limits.
21:17Rafa Kamara almost over a second clear of Alex Dunn, which would change this race.
21:22You can see DRS is enabled.
21:24This second sector is absolutely crucial for Alex Dunn.
21:27Five-second penalty for Noel Leon.
21:29So he's going to fall back through the top ten.
21:33Dunn now outside 1.1 seconds of camera.
21:36So will not get the benefit of the DRS system.
21:41Noel Leon with a five-second penalty.
21:42It's going to be interesting to see how hard Dunn chooses to fight him
21:46if Leon has the benefit of the DRS and an opportunity to pass on the way up to Lacon.
21:51Alex Dunn has lost that DRS.
21:53He won't have it here going down to the bus stop.

22:02Nikola Solov does not have DRS either, and Intra Fubizac is right behind him,
22:07and that is now the fight for third.

22:13and it's interesting to see, like you said, what Noel Leon is going to do here.
22:18Is he going to take the fight to Dunn or try and work with him and just build a gap?

22:29Well, he can't believe it, but he's going to have to be really smart as well.
22:33So he's asking there, surely after being told about Noel Leon's penalty,

22:39And he's black and white as well for track limit.

22:43So five-second penalty, I think, incoming for Alex Dunn as well.
22:46Great move from Intra Fubizac around the outside at Lacon.
22:50And this could now be the fight for second place, Alex,
22:53because it looks like we could have a penalty on the way for Alex Dunn.
22:57Yeah, Nikola Solov as well, black and white now for track limit.
23:03So all of these drivers at the front of the field picking up penalties.
23:06It's going to be like a slot machine as they cross the line here.
23:09So penalty for Dunn, penalty for Leon, and Intra Fubizac and Solov just now need to stay close to them
23:15if they're going to pick up Rostrum slots.
23:18Exactly that.
23:18So Intra Fubizac just needs to stay within five seconds for Kamara.
23:22Now, he knows he's got a 1.5-second gap on track to Dunn,
23:28and that will be extended by five seconds.
23:30So he's over two, nearly three seconds clear, I'd say, of Intra Fubizac in fourth place,
23:36who is effectively second now with those penalties.
23:39Then we have Solov, Mini next along, Villa Gomez.
23:43And here is Joshua Dirksen, has the opportunity to make even more places.
23:48He's going to gain a two if he can get within five seconds of Dunn and Leon.
23:51And those super soft tyres don't appear to have gone off just yet.

23:59He's around 7 tenths slower than Kamara that time around.

25:06And the march through the field has been halted somewhat,

25:36He's had to come in a few times in this race

25:40They came in when the safety car initially came in
25:44to restart this race after the red flag.

25:57The red Aston Martin machine of Mary Boya making his way past Miney
