00:19Crazy, light blue eyes that could see in astounding detail,
00:23see through many surfaces,
00:25and, if he focused them right, could burn through solid metal.
00:30Add these unsettling eyes to a less than ingratiating personality
00:34and you have an outcast.
00:36Although he tried to hide his powers,
00:39a few of us had heard about them and approached him.
00:41Had to talk him into becoming a superhero.
00:44Look, laser eyes, the only way you'll ever fit in is to do what we do.
00:49Make what's odd about you an asset.
00:51Announce your weirdness with a cool name and an outfit
00:55and wear them proudly.
00:56I myself came up with the name Gazerbeam.
00:59He didn't like it, wanted something more sober.
01:02Viewpoint he liked, he'd say.
01:04How about viewpoint?
01:08Terrible, we told him.
01:09Sounds like a TV show nobody watches.
01:12But he liked the fact that we were interested in him,
01:14giving him names and arguing about them.
01:17We had a club, the first club that wanted him to join.
01:21And he accepted.
01:23All of it.
01:24Us, the outfit, the name Gazerbeam.
01:27Even came to say it with a strange pride.
01:31In time he became a first class crime fighter.
01:33And for a while he fit in.
01:35We all did.
01:37When it ended and we all had to go underground,
01:40he used his alter ego to fight for superhero rights.
01:43But he had trouble adapting to civilian life.
01:47His problem is common to superheroes.
01:49He got used to being useful.
01:53He needed to be useful.
01:55A bad man exploited that desire.
01:58That weakness.
01:59To attract Gazerbeam and other superheroes.
02:02Individually.
02:03In secret.
02:04And one by one to kill them off.
02:10I was drawn into it too.
02:12Almost became another victim.
02:14If it weren't for a clue Gazerbeam left behind.
02:17Heroically.
02:18In his dying moments.
02:19This nightmare was made much worse.
02:22By the fact that we supers were all.
02:24And are all still.
02:26In hiding.
02:28Being separate.
02:29Being hidden.
02:30Weakens us.
02:31Every one of us are engines.
02:33With energy to burn.
02:35Engines don't like to idle.
02:37They want to be used.
02:40If you block energy from driving us forward.
02:44The same energy will gladly drive us backward.
02:47As a society we must always support what is best in us.
02:51If someone wants to help.
02:53We should embrace that desire.
02:54Encourage it.
02:55Fan it into a flame.
02:57And look to the young to be inspired enough to take up the fight.
03:01We look to the day when supers are invited to rejoin society.
03:07Until then.
03:08We'll hide.
03:09And wait.
03:11For our next chance to do good.

03:24Everseer.
03:25Macroburst.
03:27Flange.

03:32Apogee.
03:33Blitzerman.

03:37And all of the other heroes we lost in this tragedy.
03:41All of the supers who died wanting only to help.
03:46The biggest dream is one, to a nest egg.
