00:15BJP demands re-inquiry into Mumbai tree collapse case.
00:19Maharashtra's opposition alleges connivance behind apathy.
00:23BJP claims bid to shield the guilty in Mumbai report.
00:28India Today spoke also to Vihana's parents just yesterday.
00:59He was not a person, he was not a person.
01:02He said he should be present.
01:06He said that this is a very unique subject.
01:10He said he was a person,
01:12even in the past.
01:15He said that he is not a person,
01:16even in the past.
01:19So let's see how we are going to get to move to the urgent business today.
01:22What was this? Why did he take it?
01:25First of all, the subject of the government had to take responsibility.
01:31He didn't take responsibility.
01:33He didn't want to talk about the procession.
01:36He didn't want to talk about the process.
01:39This is not again.
01:40It's been two days.
01:42The mayor asked that he had to follow the inquiry.
01:45I see not.
01:47We will change the conversation on the channel.
01:51We will change the conversation.
01:54We will change the conversation.
01:56We will change the conversation.
01:59I think this is wrong.
02:01Remember, this entire incident has raised several questions about
02:07how the civic agencies are taking care of the streets and roads in Bombay
02:15after this Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation's inquiry report concluded that the contractors were accountable,
02:23but its own officials from the Garden and Road Department were not, in fact, responsible.
02:30It gave a clean shit to its own officers.
02:32In fact, the tree root protection clauses, remember the environmental laws and the rules,
02:40not just in Mumbai, but across the country mandate that certain amount of soil space has to be left when
02:47paving a road
02:47so that the roots can continue to grow so that the trees remain stable.
02:53But we are seeing repeatedly that municipal corporations are not doing this.
02:59And now, this incident after the child's death has blown up.
03:03We spoke to a BJP cooperator who has been talking about this issue.
03:08Let's listen in.
03:23We spoke to the boy's parents just yesterday, the grieving parents.
03:38who have lost their child to civic apathy and inaction by officials and contractors.
03:44Let's listen in.
03:46Many trees have fallen in Mumbai.
03:48More than a thousand trees have fallen.
03:50And there are serious question marks over why so many trees have fallen in such a short period of time.
03:56You seem to believe that these trees were not looked after.
04:01The roots had withered away.
04:04There were complaints.
04:05I am told citizens in and around Chambur had even complained.
04:09And yet no action was taken.
04:10Is that why you are saying this is a man-made disaster?
04:13That this could have been prevented?
04:18Right.
04:19If everyone knows this was a risky work and they have informed the person who are doing it.
04:25The care should have been taken and this could have been avoided.
04:30And Vian might be with us.
04:33Did people from the colony complain?
04:36Do you know if people had complained earlier about these trees?
04:39There have been some reports that people from the area had complained
04:42that all these trees were very dangerous.
04:44They could fall at intact.
04:45Right.
04:50Yes.
04:50We have heard that there was previously complained regarding this tree.
04:55Yeah.
04:56Jui, do you want to say anything?
04:57I know for a mother this is...
04:59So if everything is...
05:01Yeah, go ahead.
05:02Jui, do you want to say something?
05:04As someone who is the mother of the child, what would you like to say today?
05:12I just want justice for my son Vian.
05:16Nothing else.
05:17What does justice mean for you?
05:19The people who are accountable should be punished.
05:22Right.
05:23You know the...
05:24The person who are accountable should be given proper punishment.
05:28Right.
05:28The BMC is saying they have punished some...
05:30I mean suspended lower officials.
05:33Officials have been suspended.
05:34Are you saying that's not enough?
05:40No, they should set some proper guidelines.
05:43Right.
05:44Because these incidents happen every year.
05:47It's not that it's the first time this has happened.
05:49One month back also there was similar incident in Khar.
05:52One year back it was in Vikroli.
05:55So, it's not that they have been following proper guidelines.
06:01So, if it's not taken proper action, the same incident will repeat every year.
06:07You know, it's been a few weeks since this tragedy happened.
06:10Has the BMC or the mayor officials been in touch with you?
06:14Have people from the government or the local MLAs, MPs, anyone reached out to you and the family and assured
06:21that they will take action?
06:26I think after the incident, mayor, we met the mayor, local MLA and cooperator were also with us.
06:34So, they have updated about us about the incident.
06:37The inquiry will be, is already initiated and some action will be taken.
06:42But the outcome of yesterday's report was shocking to all of us.
06:46The way it was given a clean sheet and the conclusion of those reports.
06:53It's a complete shocking for us and we have very less faith now that it will be done properly next
07:03time.
07:03So, our only request is that the inquiry should be initiated again with the independent and expert persons.
07:13And the whole set of people who are associated with this job of tree, around the tree, they should be
07:21held accountable.
07:22It's not merely a conductor who is at a fault.
07:25And we just heard from the grieving parents.
07:28And this, viewers, has been a problem not just in Mumbai, but across the country where rapid urbanization
07:34and a complete disregard for rules and the law is very, very obvious.
07:40When you have pavements being put without protecting the trees that are right next to the road,
07:46where you have construction happening without bothering to ensure that there is barricading and a root protection zone is created.
07:55Why do trees fall in urban areas?
07:58Because if you're not given enough space to the root, then the tree becomes weaker and any wind can blow
08:05it down.
08:05You can use the basis for these deaths andьЬ╡atively├дndern.
08:05You want to remove the book from the wall if you've wanted to break them down.
08:05You can use nothing but the thousand people are given you immediately.
08:06They will remove them if they go back and you might want to see that.
