It’s been a wild year for fans of both Mike Flanagan and Matthew Lillard, especially when both men have teamed up for the upcoming movie "The Life of Chuck." The Stephen King adaptation was apparently a partnership that started with what Lillard describes as “a very Hollywood thing,” which ultimately led to the Scream icon further hyping the Tom Hiddleston-led release.

Thanks to speaking with the man himself about this new project, I’m even more hyped about what we know about "The Life of Chuck," especially considering Mr. Flanagan’s track record with his own would-be repertory company of actors. Without seeing the film, I really do hope that this isn't the end of their work together, as the reactions so far seem to indicate that this is a match made in heaven.

00:00He and I did a movie together called Life of Chuck.
00:02We actually sat down at a very Hollywood thing.
00:05We did lunch together.
00:06We had a mutual friend, and he was like,
00:08Mike Flanagan wants to meet you.
00:10And I'm like, great.
00:10I didn't really know his work at the time.
00:14I'm not, I don't consume a lot of horror in my life.
00:18I know it sounds a little surprising.
00:20But we sat and had a lunch, and we talked for three hours.
00:23It was just an incredible afternoon.
00:25We got along great.
00:26And at the end of it, he's like, you know,
00:27someday I want to work with you.
00:28You know, I'm like, you don't have to ask me twice.
00:30I'm in.
00:32And so about, you know, a year later, six months later,
00:38he called me up, and I was dropping my kid off at school, at college.
00:42And he said, hey, I have a small part in this movie,
00:46a small movie, if you're interested.
00:48Independently financed, very tiny.
00:50It's near and dear to my heart.
00:52But it's a small part.
00:53It's not like what I think of your abilities or your talent.
00:57And I don't want to insult you, and you don't have to take this part.
01:00And I was like, you won't insult me.
01:02I'm 100% in.
01:03And yes is the answer.
01:06So I ended up doing a one-day work on Life of Chuck,
01:11which is his adaptation of the Stephen King novella.
01:14And it was awesome.
01:16It was so great.
01:17We got along great.
01:18We had a blast.
01:19We spent the weekend hanging out, having dinner, sort of.
01:23It's everything you could possibly want as an actor on a set.
01:27And then it came time to do the job.
01:28The job went great.
01:30The movie's brilliant.
01:31It just won the Toronto International Film Festival.
01:33The last 12 films to win that award have gone on to be nominated for Academy Awards Best Picture.
01:40So it's very, that's exciting for us.
01:43We just got purchased by Neon.
01:45So it comes out next year, which will be fun.
01:47I stand at the ready.
01:49I hope that he considers me.
01:51Either way, I adore him as a human being.
01:55He's like one of my favorite people.
01:57So whatever happens, I'm lucky to have him as a friend.
