Transcript
00:00I worked really hard at it. And I think I think if I remember correctly, I did it in a
00:04couple takes.
00:05I mean, it didn't look like CGI. So no, he must have gotten it right.
00:09It is not CGI.
00:10Jamesy Wu, FBI.
00:13Bonafide joint multi-service response. Really looking forward to the commemorative t-shirt.
00:17So I will start with kind of a blunt question, which is, was Darcy Lewis blipped?
00:23That was also a question I had that that was talked about at length with the writers.
00:29I don't think she was blipped. So I would like, I would like a flashback to see Darcy not blipped.
00:37That would be very funny. But we decided she wasn't blipped.
00:40Was Jimmy Wu blipped?
00:43Well, you know, I did ask that question during the making of this.
00:48And, you know, I've gotten various answers, theories.
00:51I don't know the answer for sure, but my my theory is that he wasn't.
00:57He wasn't. Because he needed that time to learn that card trick, you know, like, yeah.
01:02Someone must really miss you back at Quantico.
01:04No, sir. Softball season's over, sir.
01:07I actually was going to specifically ask about the card flip because it is a great callback that is just
01:11like within his intro.
01:13How'd you do it, Scott?
01:15Do what?
01:17The card trick.
01:18I'm curious, though, was that something that you already knew how to do or was that something that maybe took
01:23a few takes?
01:23No, I didn't know how to do it, but I learned it maybe a couple of days before and worked
01:28really hard on it because I didn't want to screw it up.
01:30I didn't want like to have to do like 40 takes of that one thing.
01:35Farf.
01:36So I worked really hard at it.
01:38And I think I think if I remember correctly, I did it in a couple of takes.
01:42Nice.
01:42Or maybe five takes.
01:43It looks great in the show.
01:44I mean, it didn't look like CGI.
01:46No, it's not CGI.
01:47You must have gotten it, right?
01:48It is not CGI.
01:49Seriously?
01:50You had a bit of a tempestuous relationship with Scott Lang when we first met Jimmy Woo.
01:56Well, it started that.
01:58Yeah, but I mean, so like at this point, after like seeing everything that happened in Avengers Endgame, do you
02:04think that his perspective on superheroes has maybe changed?
02:07And do you think maybe he brags about knowing Scott Lang?
02:11I think so.
02:13I think so.
02:13I think, I think, I think Jimmy is kind of, yeah, he's kind of, he uses it for cool points,
02:21you know, like I think, you know, there is a childlike nature about him, you know, magic.
02:28And I could for sure see that playing out in his recollection of his times with Scott.
02:36It totally romanticized.
02:37He was there along with him the entire way.
02:40Totally.
02:40Yeah.
02:41Making up so that it didn't happen, you know.
02:44Did you want to grab dinner or something?
02:46I mean, because I'm free.
02:47We haven't seen Darcy since Thor The Dark World.
02:50And that means like in addition to the amount of time that we haven't seen her, that means she was
02:53also living through the entire time that she wasn't blipped.
02:57So like how far did you go as far as just kind of like mapping her life?
03:01Well, that's right.
03:03So there, you know, a lot is addressed, but nothing to do with the time exactly and what Darcy's been
03:10doing.
03:10So it's kind of up to the viewer to fill that in.
03:13But as an actor, for me, I was like, okay, well, she's seen some stuff.
03:18She's obviously looked through some things and she's been in college this entire time.
03:22So I think she's just the same exact Darcy, but now she's a professional and she demands respect.
03:31Miss Lewis.
03:33Dr. Lewis.
03:34And actually, I mean, was that kind of part of it?
03:36Just like as far as the dialogue, because it's classy, classic Darcy's snark when she's especially like back in the
03:41back of the van with those other scientists.
03:43Like, was there a process of just making sure that the voice was right?
03:47Yes.
03:48Um, actually, that's such a good question, because when you're acting, there are only a few things you can do.
03:54You can't change your face, but you can change your voice and how you speak.
03:58So, um, I've tried, I mean, my voice is so annoying and people are definitely quick to point that out
04:05and there's nothing I can do about it.
04:06So, uh, I definitely did watch, uh, some Darcy stuff just to remember what I was doing with my voice
04:12and my register, um, and try to bring it a little more down, you know, because now she's, uh, she's
04:19a professional, she's a doctor.
04:21Maybe I could get that coffee now.
04:24Or not.
04:26That's cool.
04:26One of the cool things about Jimmy Woo's role and kind of like the whole, uh, sword operation in WandaVision
04:32is that it's kind of a fan surrogate program.
04:35They're watching WandaVision the same way that fans are watching WandaVision and trying to just pick out all the clues.
04:40Was that something that was an influence on your performance?
04:44Um, it wasn't something that I was fully conscious of, uh, until I started, until I saw the episodes, you
04:52know, but, but it was something that I, I was, uh, you know, conscious of.
04:56In terms of just the character being very confused, you know, and, and, and, and wanting to find the answers
05:04to these questions.
05:04I mean, that was a genuine thing that Jimmy was going through.
05:07Between you, me, and the bedpost, I am not confident about this mission.
05:11And, and, and it wasn't until I watched the episodes that I was like, oh, wow.
05:14The audience is going through the exact same thing.
05:17And they're asking the exact same questions that he's writing on the board, you know, which is pretty, pretty amazing.
05:24And, and, and really cool to be, to be the, to represent the audience in that way.
05:28Yeah.
05:29Uh, it was definitely that fun moment of, uh, Darcy and Jimmy Woo eating chips, watching the show, like the
05:35viewer.
05:36Cause, you know, the first three episodes on purpose are kind of, you're just like, what is going on?
05:41What is happening?
05:42What is this?
05:43Uh, and then to see another character or two other characters also being like, what am I watching?
05:48There's something really fun about that.
05:50And I think it's a really fun guidepost for the viewer, um, to see other people being confused.
05:56The jig is up.
05:58Like how much did you actually know about what's going on?
06:00Well, I, I had a very unique, uh, opportunity where we, we did do table reads.
06:06So I actually got the scripts.
06:09Whoa.
06:09Which I didn't expect, um, at all.
06:12So, uh, I knew what was going on.
06:15I mean, whoa.
06:17But there was a point in filming where I was like, you know, Darcy doesn't know everything.
06:22I don't want to know everything.
06:24And also I don't want to, I don't want to know too much so that I don't have to hide
06:28too much.
06:29Uh, so it was partially self-preservation and partially for my character that there was a point where I just
06:35focused on Darcy's stuff.
06:37And so I don't really know exactly what happens anymore, uh, along with everybody else.
06:43I did kind of know most of it, you know, I wouldn't say all of it, but I knew most
06:49of it going in.
06:50And, uh, but you know, you, you, you just, when you're in the scene, you're just kind of in, in
06:55the moment.
06:56And, and, uh, and you kind of, you're, you kind of forget about what you know, you know, because it's
07:01just, you're just kind of living it.
07:04And it's, it is genuinely perplexing, you know, the situation.
07:07Well, you're not Randall Park, you're Jimmy Woo.
07:09Yes, exactly.
07:12So, yeah, I mean, it did feel like a puzzle.
07:15It felt like a puzzle that we were trying to figure out.
07:17I'm only through the Ds, but so far I got diddly squat.
07:20Speaking entirely theoretically, uh, we know that Jane Foster is going to be becoming Thor in the next Thor movie.
07:26What do you think Darcy Lewis's reaction to seeing that would be?
07:30Oh, just complete confusion, probably, uh, still attracted to Thor, um, but maybe in a more platonic way?
07:39But why?
07:41Hey man, we're working with the same scarcity of intel.
07:43I don't know.
07:44As a fan, I'm desperate for this movie.
07:47I mean, I'm like, I can't wait for it.
07:49Same.
07:50Well, thank you so much again for taking the time today.
07:53I cannot wait to see more of this show and more of Darcy Lewis.
07:55So thank you again.
