The Best Player at World Cup 2026
Transcript
00:01Before you continue, just give me clarity.
00:03Are you saying Holland should be flip-flopping with Kane, or what are you saying?
00:06I'm saying that Holland and Kane are neck and neck.
00:09And on any given day, I would be okay with either of these guys.
00:14They're different, though.
00:15They're different profile of player.
00:16I think Kane is more versatile.
00:18You can play him.
00:19Look, Harry Kane this season, wow.
00:21I mean, he dropped into a deep midfield role and was played there and played incredible as a 6-8.
00:28And his passing, he's a better passer than Erling Holland.
00:31Erling Holland, though, is a physical, just empowers and can completely take over a defense.
00:38You're just nodding over there, man.
00:40What's your issue?
00:41You're saying, the way you're looking at me right now, I'm just reading your body language thinking that Kane is
00:47like head and shoulders above Erling Holland.
00:50That's not what I'm nodding about.
00:51I'm just listening as you're describing the differences and what you feel like separates Kane from Holland.
00:58And it's very similar to our previous section, if you guys were watching, when we had the debate of Olisse
01:02and Holland picking one.
01:04And I said, pretty much what you're saying, everything that you're describing, Kane being able to drop deep.
01:09Kane being able to create, to be a guy that gets assists as well as goals, to create his own
01:13chances as well, adds a difference.
01:16But they're a different position.
01:18I'm saying now Kane versus Holland.
01:19These two are strikers.
01:20Number nines.
01:21Very traditional types of nines.
01:23So who are you taking?
01:24But who are you taking?
01:24I'm taking Kane.
01:25You're taking Kane?
01:26I'm taking Holland.
01:27I'm taking Kane.
01:28I'm taking Holland for a number of different reasons, not the least of which is the physical nature of Holland.
01:35All right?
01:35And look, sometimes when you talk about a player in the physical sense, it's almost like you're disrespecting him.
01:44I say it in that he, yes, he's a physical specimen.
01:48All right?
01:48And he does things that other players do.
01:50But he also, I think, recognizes that he has that advantage.
01:54And more importantly, he has harnessed that advantage.
01:57So the scoring of the goals, that's wonderful.
02:00And obviously, that's what he's there to do.
02:02He does it in different ways.
02:04It doesn't matter who's marking him.
02:06You know, we talk about hack-a-shack and all that kind of stuff.
02:09We're going to have to come up with something when it comes to this summer relative to Erland Holland because
02:13the amount of times, the physical abuse that he takes.
02:15And here's the other thing when it comes to Holland relative to Harry Kane.
02:20The defense, Harry Kane, I love the fact that he's kind of made this new role for himself where he's
02:24come back at times and played in positions, gotten deep.
02:26That's wonderful.
02:27And that's a new facet of his game.
02:29Erland Holland defensively is as good, if not better, than a lot of quote-unquote defenders out there.
02:35When he gets in his brain that he is going to track back, it is a locomotive that is coming
02:40to you, and you do not want to be in his way.
02:44And he will get to the ball, win the ball, send you into the stands, go the opposite way.
02:49So, I mean, he is everything.
02:51I would absolutely put Erland Holland, if I'm just out there picking teams on a field, and it's between Harry
02:59Kane and Erland Holland, I'm taking Erland.
03:00All right, guys, there we go, final two coming at you, don't go anywhere.
03:06If you follow soccer, you probably can guess who these two are, but where are they, one or two?
03:14We'll tell you when we come back.
03:15These two gentlemen deserve to be in the top ten.
03:19Do they deserve to be in the top two, and more importantly, do they deserve to be where they are
03:24in this top two?
03:25I'll go to you first, Mo.
03:29Mbappe should be number one.
03:31Mbappe should be number one.
03:33What Lamine Yamal has done at, what, 18 years old is ridiculous.
03:36It absolutely is.
03:38But Mbappe, current form, Mbappe at this stage already has shown he knows how to deliver for both club and
03:47country.
03:48I mean, he scored a hat trick in the World Cup, didn't win.
03:51He's won a World Cup already as well.
03:53So he's prepared for this moment.
03:55I'm excited to see what Lamine Yamal does, but look at these clips.
03:58I mean, the guy just glides through traffic.
04:01Plus, he has a supporting cast with this French national team to carry him and help him along the way.
04:06But, I mean, at his very best, it's the pace, it's the close control, it's the way that he's able
04:12to deliver in these high-stake pressure moments.
04:15You go back to that World Cup final against Argentina, greatest World Cup final ever.
04:19I thought France was down and out.
04:21I thought they were done.
04:22It was just a matter of, you know, seeing the game out.
04:25He single-handedly brought them back into that game.
04:28The biggest stage single-handedly delivered in that moment.
04:32So, I would have them flip-flop.
04:34Big part of it is the form, but also the experience that he has in the World Cup already.
04:38I want to disagree with you, Moe, but I can't.
04:42Mbappe is the number one player in the world and has been.
04:45And, look, first teenager since Pele to win a World Cup.
04:50Gets to the finals, scored a hat trick, as you said.
04:52But also, the other thing that I love and have been so impressed with by Mbappe is the evolution of
04:57him as a player.
04:59When he broke on the scene at Monaco, the way he was scoring goals, he was relying so much on
05:03his athleticism, his speed, his power.
05:05That was the same in the World Cup in 2018.
05:08He was playing as a right-winger at that time.
05:10Then he makes the move to Real Madrid, well, PSG, and then to Real Madrid.
05:14But at Real Madrid now, what you're seeing is him playing as a center striker.
05:18And at the beginning, everyone's like, well, you can't play him as a striker.
05:20He needs to be wide. He needs to have space to take players on.
05:24But now he's got this ruthlessness and this ability to run in behind, to finish off plays, to be a
05:30striker in the box, a goal scorer.
05:31So we've already, at such a young age, seen all these versions of Mbappe.
05:36And I think we're going to see the best one yet this summer because, to me, he's the best player.
05:41And if he saw this list, I think he would feel disrespected that an 18-year-old kid right now
05:46in Lamine Yamal is ranked ahead of him.
05:48And maybe popularity-wise because Lamine is special.
05:51He has an insane ability on the dribble to make fun stuff happen.
05:55And he's a great player.
05:56And there's a reason he's at the top two.
05:58But right now, I would still say Mbappe number one.
06:01Yeah.
06:02No, I was just going to say, when you're just looking at this, the comparison between the two,
06:06I think Mbappe wins in quite a few categories.
06:08But to your point there about how special Lamine Yamal is at 18 years old, it's the craftiness on the
06:14ball.
06:14It's the way that he's able to just conjure up his own special moments, whether it's scoring goals.
06:19The guy's passing, right?
06:20There's a lot of comparisons being drawn between himself and Lionel Messi.
06:23The one that I think is probably the one that stands out the most in my mind.
06:28A lot of people point to the goals, the dribbling, all that.
06:31His passing.
06:33His passing is incredible.
06:35His passing on the dribble.
06:36There's these moments where he's dribbling, dribbling, dribbling, and then just plays this
06:39anti-training ball with the outside of his left foot.
06:42Just in stride.
06:43The perfect weight.
06:44Those are the moments that wow me the most.
06:46Fun fact.
06:47Mbappe won the World Cup 19 years old.
06:50World Cup final will happen July 19th.
06:53By that point, this kid will have just turned 19.
06:56So we could be seeing him also lifting the World Cup trophy.
07:00His fan can make that run at 19 years old in his first World Cup.
07:03Where are you at, Lex?
07:04Lex, you're holding some bullets back here.
07:06No, I mean, a couple of things.
07:07First off, when it comes to Lamine Yamal, I mean, he has done this incredible, it's not
07:12a trick.
07:12It's just, you know, how good he is for going from being an elite teen, elite teen, to a
07:21teen who happens to be elite.
07:23Or I guess it would be an elite team or a teen that happens to be elite.
07:28Either way, the fact that he's a teenager is just now added on to this, all right?
07:34He is, for a lot of people, even in this list, the greatest player in the world or certainly
07:38the greatest player that's going to be at this World Cup.
07:41And that says a lot because that's not, that is not always easy.
07:44I will go back to something that you said earlier about, you know, doing it for club and country.
07:52Let's also be honest when we're talking about some of these players that the ability to do
07:57it for club and country is much easier, specifically because of, I guess, both the club and the country
08:04that they play for.
08:05So, you know, if it was Lamin Amal who was, I don't know, Finnish or something like that,
08:12we might look at him very, very differently as a player.
08:15I also think, we were talking about this with Hakimi, the fact that Lamin Amal plays out
08:20wide, maybe he suffers a little bit at times with comparison, not in our list, but sometimes
08:25in that comparison of what is up top.
08:29But I, to bring it all back around, I agree with you.
08:32I think Kylian Mbappe is the number one player in the world and will be the number one player
08:36this summer at the World Cup right now.
08:39Lamin Amal, I'd say, has a little, the edge on Mbappe in this, in that when he gets the
08:44ball at any moment, you get on the edge of yourself, you know, and everybody in the crowd
08:48is like, what's he going to do?
08:49Because he's always picking up the ball in such an attacking, advanced position, wide,
08:53it's a lot of 1v1s.
08:54You see with Barcelona, they say, hey, stay on the touchline, get out of the mix in the
08:59middle because we know when you have the ball, you're going to make something special
09:02and different happen.
09:04But I saw Lamin Amal come up against Nuno Mendes in that UEFA Nations League final.
09:10He shut him down.
09:11Yeah.
09:11And that's what he's going to find at the World Cup is that you're now playing against
09:15a very high level of competition.
09:17You're going to play against the best fullbacks in the world.
09:19They're going to try and the entire game shut you out of the game.
09:22Guys, this has been wonderful.
09:24And we all know that what players do with their club teams is all fine and well.
09:30But as far as legacy and history, oftentimes it's related to what they do with the national
09:35team.
09:36You look no further than someone like Messi.
09:38He would have been wonderful with everything they did with the club.
09:40But that moment of raising the World Cup and it can also change perception, the perception
09:45of the players.
09:46And within a month or a little bit more than a month, that perception of that player can
09:51go from here to here.
09:52Good and bad and bad and bad to good relative to what happens on the field.
09:57So we will be watching all of these players.
09:58This World Cup kicks off in a matter of days.
10:01We are going to bring you absolutely every single second of the World Cup on the field
10:07of stories, off the field of stories, guys like Marisa Dew and Stu Holden and so many
10:13incredible men and women in front of the camera and behind the camera that from a Fox perspective
10:17are going to give you everything and more that you want from a World Cup.
