Aerial footage showed parts of the Loire river reduced to a trickle of sandbanks in western France as early-summer heatwaves have hit France and temperatures are set to climb as high as 41 degrees Celsius (106 degrees Fahrenheit) on Friday (July 10). Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu will chair an interministerial crisis meeting on Friday morning to coordinate the government's response, as authorities in several regions impose water-use restrictions.
