01:02But, yeah, I felt like I had always a little bit, not of leeway, but a little bit of an
01:13edge.
01:15And, yeah, managed to get through the second, which was huge, and then, yeah, got through the third.
01:20Eleanor?
01:22Arthur, when you're standing just ready to go out to centre court and then you turn around and see the
01:27Queen there, I just wonder what was that moment like?
01:30Yeah, yeah, we were just, yeah, we were ready to, getting ready to come on and she came to say
01:38hello to, she introduced herself to both me and Flavio.
01:41And, yeah, I mean, it's obviously an honour to play in front of her and great to meet her.
01:48She had some really kind words to me at the end as well.
01:50So, yeah, playing in front of tennis legends and now the Queen, so it's special, yeah.
02:01Charlie?
02:02You look like you carry yourself with a huge amount of self-belief.
02:05I just wondered, like, how are you feeling about playing the semi-final on Friday?
02:09Yeah, that's just what I've tried to do for the past ten days.
02:15Yeah, I just believe in myself, do the best I can do every match, give myself 100% and see
02:23then where that will take me.
02:28And, yeah, today especially because I've beaten him in Australia, so I knew I could do it and, yeah, I
02:35did.
02:35This is maybe less of a surprise to you than it is to everyone else.
02:43I mean, today's match, today's match maybe.
02:47I really felt like I, I was nervous because I really felt like, although I was in the quarterfinal for
02:52the first time of a slam,
02:54I felt like I could, I could really beat the, my opponent of the day.
03:01But then, yeah, generally, more globally, no, not really.
03:04Matt?
03:06Hey, Arthur.
03:07We asked you, I think, early, earlier on about the notion of being the last Brit standing.
03:12I think that was just after the third round and you sort of, you know, said it wasn't really anything
03:17in your mind.
03:17But that was the third round, now being in the semi-final is quite different.
03:21Are you starting to get a sense of the kind of national significance of this run, you know, carrying the
03:26hopes of the nation?
03:27Yeah, I'm starting to.
03:32Yeah, it's only going to, it's only going to grow match after match that I win.
03:37But at the same time, it's good that, yeah, it's good that I don't have, you know, two weeks before
03:42my next match.
03:42It's going to keep, they keep coming, coming fast.
03:47So, so that's good in a sense.
03:50I don't, I'm not looking too much at social media, just staying in my bubble and, and, and, yeah, just
03:58carrying on.
03:59Neil?
04:01It was mentioned on court, your fellow wildcard, Goran Izanisvic, as achievement here, 25 years ago.
04:06I appreciate that's before you were even born.
04:08But I don't know if you know much about his story and if you've ever met him during his time
04:12on the circuit.
04:13No, I never met him.
04:14And I, and I knew, yeah, I knew beforehand that he was the only wildcard to ever win a Grand
04:20Slam.
04:24So, yeah, I mean, it's obviously an incredible story.
04:27I've, I've watched the highlights of the final before.
04:32And, yeah, I'm not going to, I'm not going to speculate too much or think ahead of what that could
04:37be like.
04:38I'm just going to keep thinking ahead about my match on Friday and then we'll see how it goes.
04:44Hi, Arthur.
04:45You've spoken quite a lot about your French roots as well.
04:47I was wondering, how aware are you of the support you, you, and the, like, enthusiasm you've been creating in
04:53France as well?
04:54How close are your ties?
04:55Do you receive any messages and encouragements from France as well?
04:58Yeah, definitely.
04:59I've got ties to France, my family, my, my parents and cousins and, yeah, family, friends, friends.
05:06So, also a lot of support from there.
05:08I haven't, yeah, I haven't been too much, haven't been listening to the news too much or focusing on that.
05:18But, yeah, obviously I played for, I played for Great Britain and being, being here in London, I really feel
05:25the support of the, of the, of the British public more.
05:29So, yeah.
05:30James?
05:31Arthur, it's five years now on since we had another British wild card who had a big run at Wimbledon
05:36and then broke out in Emiratacanu.
05:38I'll fill in the gap for you.
05:39I wonder what your, I think you played Qualies here that year, I wonder what your memories maybe of that,
05:44that breakout run were and whether you can draw any inspiration or, or, or some other kind of, um, wisdom
05:52from, from watching a, a young Brit break out at Wimbledon.
05:55Yeah, um, my memory of it was that it was impressive how, how she didn't let the, the occasion get
06:05to her.
06:06You know, she would just keep going match after match, um, playing well, beating top players.
06:13And, and, and yeah, that was until, until the, until the, the title.
06:16So, um, it's very tough to do when, when you're not used to, to being on, on the, on the
06:26stage, on such a big stage.
06:27And she did it great when she won the US Open.
06:30Um, yeah, I've been trying to do that as well.
06:33Just, um, just take it match by match, play my game, put, put what I do best on court and,
06:40and, uh, yeah.
06:41Keep doing that.
06:42Ken?
06:44Arthur, congrats on the win.
06:46Um, kind of a two part question.
06:48Stanford, um, what kind of an impact do you think, uh, the, the Stanford experiences, um, has had on you?
06:54And then just on the French, uh, kind of aspect, I guess, how culturally French do you feel?
06:59You're British and French.
07:00Um, do you speak, uh, is French your first language at like at home with, with your parents?
07:05Um, yeah.
07:06Yeah.
07:07Stanford was, um, was a great experience.
07:10I, I went there when I was 18.
07:12I wasn't necessarily ready to go and play professional tournaments straight away.
07:16And yeah, as, as we've seen now as well, uh, more and more, a lot of top juniors are going
07:21to the States.
07:22So yeah, I did three years there and helped me, gave me time to mature and make great friends, still
07:29pursue, uh, academics, um, had great coaches.
07:33Paul Goldstein was here today as well.
07:35He flew over, had his support, which was great.
07:38Um, and yeah, it was, it was just a great fit for me.
07:41I think great place, um, gave me a combination of academics and tennis.
07:47Um, and in regards to the, to the, to the French, um, I mean, honestly, less and less, uh, these
07:57days.
07:57I've, I've now lived here a long time, maybe 10 years ago, you would have asked me that question and
08:02I probably would have said I felt maybe more French than English, but now it's, it's not the case at
08:06all.
08:06Um, I feel, yeah, I feel very British.
08:09You know, I live here, all my, all my best friends live here.
08:13Um, I went to school here, I train here, um, obviously my parents are still French, so, so we speak
08:20French with my, with my family and my cousins who still live in France.
08:25But, um, no, my, my roots are very much tied to London now.
08:28David?
08:29Arthur, you spoke about you've got to concentrate on the next match and you're, you're going to be playing one
08:35of the biggest servers in the world.
08:36I just wonder, how do you, how do you like playing big servers typically? How do you sort of find
08:42that?
08:43Um, yeah, it's something that I've really improved in my game, um, to, yeah, more generally, um, being on defense
08:52and being more comfortable being on defense.
08:55But, um, yeah, playing big servers is something that I've, I've really improved on, um, accepting, sometimes getting aced a
09:05lot and having, uh,
09:07and having more pressure on my service games because I know that they run through theirs, um, sometimes easily.
09:13But, yeah, I'm a great returner, I think, and, and, uh, just try to apply pressure, uh, that way.
09:19Uh, you mentioned pressure there, Arthur. You really seem to have unsettled three really good opponents in a row by
09:25putting relentless pressure on them.
09:27Do you feel, um, confident that you can do that against Verev as well, given that he's, on paper, you
09:33know, another step up from the three players you've just beaten?
09:36Yeah, um, yeah, I was, I was, I was down, uh, not today, but in the matches before I was,
09:43I was down and close to, close to losing and I, yeah, managed to, you know, stay in the match,
09:50fight, fight well and, yeah, as you say, just put pressure and make them win the match.
09:56Um, obviously I have the crowd behind me here, which is a huge help, especially on centre court when you've
10:01got so many, so many people pushing me.
10:04I think, um, I've been trying to use the crowd, um, to my advantage in important moments just to add
10:11a little pressure maybe to the opponent.
10:13So, yeah, I'll, I'll try and do that again, um, at moments that feel, that feel right, uh, on Friday.
10:23Congratulations.
10:25There's a British junior, um, he's Welch, actually, that's, um, a wild card that's in the, um, quarterfinals tomorrow.
10:33I'm wondering what advice you would give him.
10:38Sorry, I didn't quite hear you.
10:39Did you say the wild card in juniors is also a Brit?
10:41Yes, he's from Welch, he was not expected to be where he is and he's in the quarterfinals.
10:47So, uh, what advice would you give him?
10:50And he's also going over to the States for college this and then going forward.
10:55Yeah, yeah, it's, um, that's great.
10:58I didn't know.
10:58It's great for British tennis.
11:00Um, happy for him as well.
11:02Uh, I mean, I haven't seen him play.
11:06I don't, I don't know anything about him.
11:07So it's, it's tough to give him advice, but yeah, I mean, I, it, on that scale of juniors,
11:14there will be more attention, I guess, on, on him as well.
11:17And more pressure as the, as the, as the tournament carries on for him as well.
11:22So yeah, just, uh, not get taken, uh, taken away in, um, in the excitement and the, and the distractions
11:31of, of, of, of, uh, moving forward in the tournament and just, uh, stick to your game.
11:38At the back.
11:39I just read that some of your earlier coaches from university compared you with Kai Nishikori.
11:44I just wondered what, what you made of that comparison and if you've got any other comparisons?
11:53Um, I mean, that's, uh, it's a good thing to be compared to one of the, such a great player
11:59like, like, uh, Nishikori.
12:01Um, yeah, I would say similar, similar height and, um, and, uh, yeah, I mean, Kai had a, had a
12:11great, great backhand that he really relied on.
12:13I also, um, feel like I am, I have a very natural backhand.
12:18Um, and, uh, yeah, other, other comparisons, I don't have any on top, off the top of my mind right
12:29now.
12:30Um, I used to sometimes be compared a little bit to Agassi, uh, in the way that I stay close
12:36to my bet to the baseline and take balls early.
12:38Um, but yeah, just trying to, just trying to play my own way and make a name for myself, yeah.
12:46Okay, last two questions there.
12:48Hi, Arthur.
12:49Um, you said in your previous rounds that, you know, sometimes when later on in the match, your legs were
12:55feeling heavy, the crowd really got behind you and incentivized you.
12:58How are you feeling physically, mentally?
13:01It's quite a rollercoaster.
13:03Could you talk about that, please?
13:05Um, yeah, it was, it was hotter today.
13:07And I felt it, um, definitely.
13:09It was good that I only played, you know, two, two hours and a bit, um, which was nice for
13:14the recovery.
13:14But yeah, I feel tired.
13:16I feel mentally tired, physically, but that's been the case for the past five days.
13:21And that's also something that I'm, uh, that's really grown my confidence is that I now, I now feel like
13:29I can play.
13:31I can play even when I'm tired, even when I'm stressed, um, in any conditions I feel.
13:37I feel, uh, confident in my game and I know that I can just go out there and compete.
13:42Ellen, the last question.
13:44Arthur, Zverev is obviously the most recent Grand Slam champion.
13:47I just wonder, you know, how much will you relish that going out on centre court and taking him on?
13:51And also, what, what did the Queen say to you?
13:54Yeah, uh, Zverev is a step up again.
13:57I'm, I'm ready for it.
13:58I have nothing to lose.
13:59I'm just going to go out there and, and, um, and yeah, just put my game on the court, do
14:06what I've done, um, believe in myself and we'll see where that takes me.
14:10And, uh, yeah, the Queen just, uh, she was waiting for me at the end of the match.
14:15Um, and she congratulated me.
14:18Um, I told her how much of a, how much of an honour it was for me to play in
14:22front of her.
14:23And, and yeah, she just said, congratulations, keep going.
14:26I told her it was my birthday on Sunday.
14:27So, so it'd be great to play, uh, the Wimbledon final on my birthday.
