Henry Thies & His Orchestra - Havin' You Around Is Heaven

At the age of 18, violinist and bandleader Thies (1893-1936) was leading his first orchestra at Chicago's College Inn Hotel. In 1915 he moved to Detroit where he remained for ten years playing at various hotels and night clubs. In 1921 his Hotel Ritz orchestra made its first recordings. In 1925 the band traveled to Cincinnati for a two week engagement at the Castle Farm dancehall. Thanks to its great popularity the engagement turned out to last six months. Shortly after the Castle Farm engagement the orchestra became the house band of the Hotel Sinton in Cincinnati. Unfortunately, Thies' bipolar condition led to his untimely suicide in 1936. This great recording was made in 1930 and the vocalist was Charles Dameron.
