The World Cup has brought glitz and glamour to Vancouver, but as the city seeks to show its best side to the world it has also led to early-morning raids and more aggressive policing of people experiencing homelessness and drug problems in the city's Downtown Eastside, locals have told Reuters. - REUTERS

00:19your medication, your family's pictures, your urns, like everything. They don't care.
00:24The mayor is trying to paint a city of not having a homeless problem. So he wants to
00:28first thing in the morning, he wants to rush us all the tents, even down on Hastings,
00:32down as fast as they can so the tourists can't see it. We have increased policing in the area,
00:38but that's because we've increased policing citywide for FIFA and our deployments have
00:43been larger, but we've been working with the city to work with the vulnerable populations.
00:48We're not taking anything unless it's an illegal weapon or a substance, but we are just helping
00:54the city of Vancouver clean the streets.
