00:09Today the United States celebrates 250 years of independence,
00:15250 years of freedom,
00:19250 years of defending freedom.
00:22On behalf of the people of Israel,
00:24I wish you all a happy and joyful Independence Day.
00:28My friends, this Fourth of July carries a special meaning for me personally.
00:34Exactly 50 years ago, as America celebrated its bicentennial,
00:39Israel carried out one of the greatest hostage rescue missions in history,
00:44Operation Jonathan in Entebbe, Uganda.
00:47More than 100 innocent hostages were brought home alive by our courageous soldiers.
00:53One commander did not, my brother Yoni.
00:56He gave his life so that others could live.
01:01This is what the brave soldiers of Israel and America have done again and again in these 50 years.
01:08And 50 years later, we are still defending freedom.
01:12We may live in different continents,
01:14but there's a strong bond between us because we have one destiny.
01:20We know that freedom is never cheap.
01:23It must be continually purchased.
01:26It must be continually defended.
01:29America has been the greatest force for liberty the modern world has known.
01:34Israel is proud to stand beside all of you because our alliance is built not only on shared interest.
01:43It's built on shared values.
01:46Today, those values are under attack.
01:49The tyrants we face chant,
01:51death to America,
01:52death to Israel.
01:53They think freedom is weak.
01:55They think democracies are weak.
01:58They're wrong about our two democracies.
02:00Because when America and Israel stand together,
02:03freedom stands stronger.
02:06Together we defend freedom.
02:07Together we defend our common civilization.
02:10Together, with God's help,
02:12freedom will triumph over tyranny.
