00:00It's impossible to fold a piece of paper more than eight times.
00:03To test the myth, Carl grabbed a sheet and started folding.
00:05Sure enough, by the seventh fold, the paper was about the size of a smartphone,
00:08and so thick it couldn't be folded any further.
00:11But what if you used a larger sheet of paper?
00:13So they brought out a 12 by 5 inch sheet to test the idea.
00:16The theory was that a larger sheet would fold easier.
00:18By the third fold, the paper was already shrinking fast.
00:21By the seventh, it took serious pressure to fold.
00:23For the eighth, they had to use tools to hammer it down.
00:26At this point, the myth still held true,
00:28so to break the curse, they went even bigger.
00:30A sheet the size of a soccer field, but no paper that big existed.
00:33So they built one by hand, and after three days and nights,
00:36the largest sheet of paper on earth was ready.
00:38Now came the ultimate folding test.
00:40Everyone lifted one end and pulled it carefully across.
00:43Each fold had to be precise.
00:45By the seventh fold, it was unbelievably heavy.
00:47One more fold, and the myth would be shattered.
00:50The eighth fold worked, but they didn't stop.
00:52With human strength maxed out, they brought in a steamroller.
00:55And in the end, they didn't just hit eight,
00:57they folded it 11 times, possibly a new world record.
