Dutch launch humanoid robot center to 'kickstart' race with China and US

In the Humanoid Application Centre near Rotterdam in the Netherlands, sleek humanoid robots scuttle around and robotic dogs perform canine tricks as firms, researchers and technicians gather with the aim of closing Europe’s yawning robotics gap with the United States and China. “I don’t think we can catch up anymore on hardware, software either” says Evert Jaap Lugt, the center's chief executive officer, “so it has to be an adoption and application, but that can only happen if we start now.”

00:03I don't think we can catch up anymore on hardware, software, either, because you see the tech companies in the
00:09United States, how big they are, the amount of money they can spend.
00:13Look at Elon Musk, the amount of money he can spend, right, with Tesla and SpaceX. It's unbelievable.
00:19So it has to be an adoption and application, but only that can only be happened if we start now,
00:24start tomorrow.
00:29The big advantage of humanoids is that the whole world is configured for people, right?
00:34So 95% of the environments where we live in are made for people.
00:39So if you have a robot with the form factor of a person, of a human being, you can almost
00:45apply it immediately in every use case.
00:47That's the main reason why.
01:09It's, in the summer, it's very hot in these greenhouses.
01:13What you see, it's difficult for them to get, Dutch people don't want to do it anymore, so they've got
01:17a lot of people in Poland, down Polish people don't want to do it anymore.
01:20So humanoids could be the answer.
01:27Even if you have a lot of people in Poland, you have to get a lot of people out there,
01:37then it's very powerful stuff.
01:41You just saw me guys, I had to get a lot of people out there.
01:49So how can I get a lot of people out there?
01:50I want to be the main reason why.
01:53It's a lot of people out there.
01:55business closer to robotics and not only business in the high-tech sector but
02:01also the real estate the building sector construction sector because we want
02:07everybody to learn from the specialists of the high-tech sector and production
02:12techniques we want to bring them to the more traditional markets to make sure
02:16that we can keep on developing and that we also win the battle for talent
02:36as long as we depend on manual labor we're never going to reach the 24 7 and
02:42we're never gonna gonna get to the 100,000 houses a year so we need humanoids to be
02:48able to speed up this process to make housing more affordable to make it more
02:53flexible to make it quicker
03:01welkom bij de opening van het humanoid application center fijn dat je er bent
03:33in here we want to learn from software solutions from application and use the
03:38hardware other companies are building already
03:51you
03:56you
04:09I'll see you next time.
