00:00Koji Kagami likes to parade around as some sort of a hot shot, but in reality he belongs to the
00:05villager class, a pathetic group of people that never go beyond level 10. However, even though
00:10Kagami was destined for nothingness and a disappointing future, somehow he beat the odds
00:15and raised his level to 999. No one in the entire world of EarthClear has been able to reach such
00:21an impossible level. In fact, people in this world are born with a specific purpose which dictates
00:26the rest of their lives. But Kagami has been an exception to the rules and now he spends most of
00:32his time killing monsters and gathering as much money as he can. On one such day, Kagami hears the
00:37cries of a father and son who are about to get attacked by a lowly green slime. Since these
00:42people are level 1 villagers, even a simple slime is too much for them to handle. Thankfully, Kagami
00:48was nearby to help out these losers from a humiliating death. He kills the slime with one
00:52strike and assures the villagers that they no longer need to cower in fear. Kagami then hands
00:57over the little boy the coins left behind by slime. In this world, killing monsters drops money
01:03and killing a slime can get you a hundred bronze coins. Kagami begins to leave now that the villagers
01:08are safe, but the little boy is curious to know how he managed to destroy the slime so quickly.
01:14Kagami simply turns back and reveals his insane level. The father and son almost get a heart attack,
01:20believing that Kagami is some sort of a legendary hero, but that's not the case at all. Kagami is
01:26just a regular person who lives in the island nation of Hexaldria, which used to be known as
01:30Japan. But the island got attacked by all sorts of weird monsters, and the people were forced to
01:35adapt. Levels and titles became the set standard for how a person survives in this world. A person
01:41could be born as a warrior, monk, priest, hunter, or even sorcerer, if they are lucky enough to receive
01:46a title in the first place. Some special individuals even get to be sages, heroes and kings who hold the
01:52highest authority in the land. But then the majority of the people just end up being powerless losers
01:57with no special talents. These people are forced to be simple farmers or innkeepers in a world full
02:02of abilities, so they are basically given a death sentence. Most of the world around him,
02:07he casually walks towards the Public Safety Guild and receives five gold coins for killing several
02:13monsters. This amount of gold coins is not normal by any means, and the entire guild erupts with news
02:19of Kagami single-handedly killing monsters. In reality, Kagami is working towards buying himself
02:24a special reward, and he still has a long way to go. So he heads over to the commission board
02:30to search
02:30for more well-paying work. A lot of guild members are getting frustrated by the amount of monsters that
02:35need to be killed. The island is becoming more dangerous, and the monsters are getting increasingly
02:40more difficult to take care of. Kagami himself filters out the chatter and notices a high-level
02:45commission. He can receive one gold coin for hunting down 30 blue devils, a type of monster
02:51that is known to be lethal. Despite so many people voicing their concerns over the dangers of doing
02:56such jobs, Kagami feels excited at the prospect of spending his afternoon killing some monsters and
03:02earning money on the side. After accepting the commission, Kagami heads towards the location of the
03:07blue devils, only to get distracted by a large crowd gathered in the middle of the city square.
03:12Rex the hero is addressing the crowd because he finds it unfair that the capital keeps issuing
03:16quests for monster hunting instead of dealing with the root cause of the issue. Rex believes that the
03:22reason the monsters have become such a nuisance for people is because of the demons. The demon king
03:26and his people use their evil aura to rile up the monsters and make them stronger. This is why
03:31Rex wants to recruit people who will help him fight the demon king himself and bring an end to the
03:36devastation caused by monsters and demons alike. The entire crowd wholeheartedly agrees with Rex,
03:42especially since he is also accompanied by a good-looking sage. A lot of people volunteer and
03:47a seasoned monster hunter even shows his impressive level 86 in order to persuade Rex to let him join his
03:53team. However, Rex is only looking for people who can match his own level 90. The crowd gets riled up
03:59and they start asking if the sage is also level 90. However, the sage is only level 42 which doesn't
04:05seem
04:05fair to the people. Rex explains that his companion is not just an ordinary sage, she is Kanazuki,
04:11the third daughter of King Simon. Since Kanazuki is of noble blood and a sage, she is likely to
04:17increase her level in a short amount of time. More people from the crowd then start to volunteer
04:22but Rex keeps rejecting them for one reason or the other. One priest is too old to join the party,
04:28while another level 72 priest doesn't seem like the fighting type. Rex keeps making stupid rules on his own
04:34until he finds exactly the type of person he wants to recruit for his party. A 16-year-old girl
04:39claiming to be a level 50 priest steps up and offers to join Rex. She gets immediately accepted,
04:44even though she appears far more nervous and weaker than the others. Kagami realizes that Rex is just
04:50trying to create his own harem and isn't interested in finding actually competent people. Kagami gets tired
04:56of watching Rex blatantly fulfill his agenda and he heads for the cave where the blue devils reside.
05:02Kagami casually enters the cave with no worries, hoping to run into his first blue devil. As luck
05:07would have it, a level 93 blue devil happens to be passing by and Kagami completely knocks it out
05:13with just a single punch. What follows is a bloodbath as Kagami uses a single punch to defeat blue devils
05:19left and right. All of them drop a good amount of silver coins as well. And some of them even
05:23drop rare
05:24items such as the blue devil's horn which stores a lot of demonic mana. The horn doesn't seem particularly
05:29useful so Kagami decides to sell it off as soon as he finishes the commission. He is already halfway
05:35through and moves deeper into the cave to get the job done, only to run into Rex and his newly
05:40formed
05:41party. Kagami was not expecting to run into anyone else, considering that the cave is known for being a
05:46death trap. So he decides to choose a different path in order to avoid any unnecessary drama. So far,
05:52Rex has been dealing with the monsters, while his party members provide him with support. The team now
05:57consists of the powerful mage Parna and the nervous priest Tina. Both of them feel a little awkward
06:03working alongside nobility and even during their quest, they treat the princess Kanazuki with the
06:08utmost respect. However, since they are working as a team, Kanazuki tells Parna and the others to
06:13simply call her Kuril from now on. Even though the girls have only known each other for a short time,
06:19they have already grown fond of each other and look forward to working together.
06:23Parna then asks Rex why they are in a dark, damp cave when the castle of the Demon King
06:28is in the opposite direction. Rex explains that somewhere in this mysterious cave is a hidden
06:33chamber where the royal family has kept a secret weapon. The cave actually has carefully hidden royal
06:38crests carved into the walls, which lead straight towards the chamber where a legendary sacred sword
06:43is said to be lying in wait for a level 90 hero. This sword has the power to defeat the
06:48demon king
06:48himself and is considered the ultimate weapon. Parna finds it strange that the royal family
06:53was petty enough to keep the sword a secret when it could have been used by a hero to kill
06:57the demon
06:58king a long time ago. But according to Rex, the royal family had to wait for a hero to be
07:03born into
07:03their noble line because they wanted to keep the power of the sword within the family. The only reason
07:08Rex even knows about the sword is because of Kuril. Her father wanted to keep his daughter safe during the
07:13quest to kill the demon king and decided to reveal the secret to Rex so that he could become a
07:19hero
07:19worthy of protecting Kuril. Parna and Tina find this new information quite fascinating and are eager
07:24to observe how this journey will unfold. Unbeknownst to them, there is also a small demon girl running
07:30around in the cave and she might be after the sword as well. Meanwhile, Kagami has been single-handedly
07:36turning the blue devils into an endangered species. With each kill, he also receives a massive amount of
07:41silver coins, which makes the boring fight all the more worth it. However, Kagami sees the little
07:47demon girl going deeper into the cave and he tells her to stop since there are monsters ahead. But due
07:52to her demonic aura, the blue devils don't even stare in the girl's direction. Intrigued by this
07:57mysterious girl, Kagami makes quick work of the monsters and decides to follow the little girl before
08:03she gets herself killed. In a different part of the cave, Rex is having a hard time fighting all of
08:08the blue devils. He did not expect their numbers to be so high and the situation almost feels unnatural.
08:14Tina then lends some aid to Kuril and Rex, healing them before the next wave of enemies. However,
08:19Tina is almost out of mana, and even Kuril can barely stand on her own. Thankfully, the hidden
08:24chamber is just up ahead, and now all Rex needs to do is grab the sacred sword and the head
08:29straight
08:30for the demon king's head. Grabbing the sword should have been the easy part, but Rex and the others go
08:35into a fit of rage when they notice the little demon girl in the hidden chamber. With the sword
08:39also missing, Rex blames the demonic demon girl for taking away the sword and using her mana to
08:45turn the cave into a death trap, without even listening to the girl's explanation. Rex and the
08:50others charge up their weapons and decide to obliterate the demon's entire existence. They show
08:55absolutely no mercy and the girl just accepts her fate. But as the smoke and debris clears away,
09:00Rex is shocked to find Kagami defending the girl. He can't believe that some random loser just blocked
09:06a joint attack from a powerful sage and hero. Rex demands an explanation and forces Kagami to come
09:11clean about his presence in the cave. He refuses to believe that a weak villager is strong enough to
09:16make it all the way into the hidden chamber and stand completely unscathed after a powerful attack.
09:22The furious hero would also like to know why Kagami bothered to defend someone from the demon race.
09:27Annoyed by all the questions, Kagami decides to show his stats screen to Rex so that he can see
09:32the words villager clearly written there. Confused by what he's seeing, Rex then demands to know why
09:38Kagami protected the little girl even though she is likely a thief and the reason all the blue devils
09:43are riled up. Kagami decides to lie through his teeth and he tells Rex that the girl is his little
09:48sister and she's not actually a demon. When Rex points out the horns emerging from the back of the
09:53girl's head, Kagami simply states that his little sister is wearing a hair accessory made out of the
09:59horns dropped by the blue devils. Kagami really wants to ease the tension and get out of this mess,
10:04so he tells Rex that he and his sister arrived at the cave together in order to complete a quest
10:09from
10:10the guild. Kagami then pulls out his commission sheet from the guild as further proof for Rex and
10:15his party. But the arrogant hero is still not satisfied because none of this explains the
10:19disappearance of the sacred sword. Kagami thinks hard for a second and then remembers that he
10:24actually took away the sword a long time ago. He then sold it off to some merchant for a great
10:28price.
10:29At this point, Rex feels like he's living in a fever dream. Not only did this weird guy come out
10:34of nowhere and pull out the sword, but also just sold it off without a second thought. Rex tells Kagami
10:39that the sword was blessed by several powerful sages and it could easily defeat the demon king.
10:44Only a hero should have been able to pull out the sword, seeing that Rex is not going to believe
10:49him any time soon. Kagami decides to flex his powers by lifting the entire stone platform where
10:55the sword was once kept. Kagami then goes the extra mile and shows Rex and the others his impossibly
11:01high level. Rex demands to know how a mere villager managed to increase his level to such an insane
11:06extent. But Kagami's response only makes Rex even more angry because he tells the hero that he simply
11:12killed monsters every day to increase his level. None of this makes sense. Rex has killed more
11:17monsters than anyone on the island, but Kagami knows that killing monsters is not enough. Before
11:23he can explain, Kirill demands Kagami to join their party as compensation for selling off the sword.
11:28The sword was property of the royal family and Kagami had no right to just sell it off. So now
11:33the princess
11:34wants him to fulfill his duty to the royal family and help out Rex with his mission of defeating the
11:39demon king. But Kagami is not interested in fame or glory. He actually doesn't care at all if the
11:45people live or die because of the demons. Unlike Rex and the others who act self-righteous all the time
11:50and force their ideals on others, Kagami really does want to live a peaceful life, despite having the
11:56power to end all monsters. His attitude almost feels insulting to Rex and he wants to know what purpose
12:02could Kagami's life serve if he doesn't use his powers for good. But the explanation is simple.
12:07Kagami doesn't view the demon race as the bad guys, and he doesn't want to be a hero either.
12:12Kirill even offers to marry Kagami out of desperation, hoping that he will be motivated
12:16to help them out if he knew he could marry the princess. But Kagami just wants to head back home,
12:21and he's growing tired of Kirill and Rex forcing him into a role that he does not believe in. Kagami
12:27tells his fake sister to come with him and together they leave the cave. The outside world has already
12:32grown dark and Kagami just wants to head back to the city and put this painfully long day behind him.
12:37But then, the little demon girl forces Kagami to stay back because she has been waiting for someone
12:42like him. Kagami turns around only to be left completely confused because the demon girl wants
12:48to marry him. Surprised and disgusted by the little girl's sudden proposal, Kagami decides to reject her
12:53bluntly and tells her to wait for another million years. But there is some pressing issue that the demon
12:59girl must take care of, and in order to do that, she needs to marry Kagami as soon as possible.
13:04The girl's name is actually Alice Valnesio, and unlike other demons, she wishes to live peacefully
13:09with the humans. However, her father also happens to be the demon king himself, and now he has fallen
13:15ill. So Alice traveled to the cave so that she could take the sacred sword and stop anyone from killing
13:20her father. The demon king has been sick for a long time, and getting rid of him won't solve the
13:25monster issue. Kagami has actually met the demon king once before, but he's still not really
13:30interested in helping out the demon race. Kagami believes that the human race will hate demons no
13:35matter what, even though they are technically not the ones to harm human beings. It is actually the
13:40mana stored in the horns of a demon that allows monsters to fester on the land and attack human
13:45beings. Kagami tells Alice that there isn't much of a difference between humans and demons. But just by
13:50having monster-producing horns, Alice is trying to accomplish a goal that is beyond her control.
13:56Hearing all of this still does not deter Alice from making her case to Kagami, but it is ultimately
14:01futile. Kagami apologizes to the little girl for not being of much use to her and he decides to part
14:06ways.
14:07But Alice is stubborn, and instead of leaving Kagami alone, she follows him throughout the forest.
14:12Meanwhile, back in the cave, Tina, Kirill and Parna can't believe the audacity of such a lowly
14:17villager. Their egos are bruised because someone who was supposed to be lesser than them has now
14:22bested them all and made them look like complete idiots. However, Rex is not only angry but also
14:27quite concerned. Before Kagami left the cave, he actually turned towards Rex and told the hero that
14:33he has no idea how the world really works. These words struck at Rex's core and now he wants to
14:38know
14:38what Kagami meant. Perhaps there are certain rules in this world that Rex has not discovered yet.
14:43Even though Rex has been left with several burning questions after his chance encounter with Kagami,
14:49he is eager to learn the truth and become as strong as humanly possible. He hopes to one
14:53day reach Kagami's level and confront him again. Back in the forest, Kagami has now reached the walls
14:59of the city, but Alice is still following him. The demon girl cannot enter the city since her
15:04presence could cause trouble, so she asks Kagami for one final favor. She wants the strange villager to
15:10buy her a medicine called Spirit's Blessing Potion. Alice pulls out her entire savings in the hopes that
15:15the small amount of money will cover the cost of the medicine. But once again, Kagami crushes the
15:20little girl's spirit by letting her know that the potion actually costs 10 gold coins. Kagami then
15:25tells Alice to just go back home since she can't afford the medicine. But the little demon nervously
15:30asks Kagami to lend her some money instead. She is desperate to get the potion for her father,
15:35because she believes that if the demon king dies, then humans will try to wipe out the rest of the
15:40demon race. But Kagami knows that whether the demon king lives or dies, it will not change how human
15:46beings view the entire demon race, and they might end up waging a war against every single demon on
15:51the planet. Kagami then asks Alice if she hates human beings, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
15:56Alice believes that there is no point in hating human beings because that would only make things worse.
16:01Instead, she is determined to bring together demons and humans so that they can survive the
16:06monsters together. Kagami has a change of heart and he pulls out a white cloth from his jacket.
16:12He then ties the ribbon around Alice's demon horns. Curious as to what purpose the cloth holds,
16:17Alice is surprised to learn that Kagami intends on taking her into the city and the cloth can actually
16:23help suppress her demon mana. Alice herself can feel the change and she excitedly asks Kagami to explain
16:29how the cloth works. Apparently the cloth can turn demon energy into something else entirely.
16:34It was made from a special crystal that can store mana and spawn monsters. But when turned into a
16:39piece of fabric, the crystal has mana suppressing qualities. Alice wonders how Kagami got his hand
16:44in such a rare material, but he dodges the question. Kagami and Alice then head into the city after
16:50learning each other's names. The free city of Valmon is exactly the type of place that Alice wanted to see.
16:55She loves the lively and warm atmosphere of the city, marveling at all the food stalls and everything
17:01happening around her. A fruit seller then notices Alice and correctly guesses that she appears to be
17:06a new visitor, so he gives her a delicious apple for free. Touched by the kindness of the fruit seller,
17:11Alice happily enjoys the apple and savors the flavor. The city is filled with all manner of produced stalls,
17:17from fruits and vegetables to freshly caught fish. Since this is Alice's first time in a human city,
17:22she wants to know how exactly the economy works. Alice learns that 10,000 bronze coins are worth one
17:29silver coin, while 10,000 silver coins are worth a single gold coin. In this world,
17:34one gold coin could allow a person to buy a small house, while 50 gold coins is enough money to
17:39buy
17:39a fancy mansion. Since the potion costs 10 gold coins, it actually holds a lot of value and is
17:45considered a treasure amongst nobles. Not only can it cure diseases, but it also holds the ability to
17:51reverse aging. Alice now feels bad about letting Kagami spend so much money for her, but he fully
17:56intends on asking the demon king for a hefty reward. In fact, Kagami will ask for a profit since he
18:02also
18:02intends on taking Alice back to the demon castle safely. Later on, Kagami drops Alice off at a
18:08comfy room in a decent tavern. Since their journey is going to be dangerous, he plans on finding someone
18:13to join their team and protect Alice while Kagami is busy fighting. Kagami then tells Alice not to open the
18:19door for anyone until he returns back. Meanwhile, a group of large birds are also making their way
18:24towards the city and there is a dangerous demon looking forward to taking down the puny humans.
18:29Back in the room, Alice starts to let her thoughts run wild and she doubts her own naive belief that
18:35humans and demons can work together. She quickly snaps out of it when Kagami announces himself at the
18:40door and tells Alice to let him in. Alice happily jumps out of bed and opens the door only to
18:45find a
18:45terrifying. Large muscle head standing in the doorway. Scared that she just got duped and is now about
18:50to die for good, Alice falls unconscious out of fear. After regaining her senses, Alice learned that
18:57this strange man is actually a monk known as Takako and Kagami has known him for a long time.
19:02His level is 124 and even though he looks more like a scary wrestler, in reality he is actually a
19:08humble monk. Takako promises to protect Alice from here on out, even though he is aware that Alice is a
19:14demon. Takako admits there was a time when he thought demons were sinful creatures that needed
19:18to be destroyed. But he was once left injured on the side of a deserted road, and it was a
19:23demon
19:24who helped him survive. Now Takako spends most of his time running a bar and club in town which Kagami
19:29used to frequent a lot. But ever since his crusade as an adventurer, Kagami has abandoned the bar,
19:35prompting Takako to punch him in the gut for no longer being a regular visitor. Seeing the mighty
19:40Kagami cower in fear and pain makes Alice immediately apologize to Takako for her rude reaction.
19:46However, Takako doesn't mind at all, and he even offers to take Alice to a hot springs
19:50so that they can relax for a while. Alice gets a bit suspicious because she can't possibly go to a
19:56hot spring with Takako, but the little demon girl has been mistaken this entire time. Kagami explains
20:01that despite the manly looks, Takako is actually a woman. She is just so incredibly buff and strong
20:07that people confuse her as a man. Hearing Kagami explain her appearance in such a blunt way makes
20:12Takako teach him another lesson. The girls then head towards the hot spring and Alice takes the
20:17opportunity to learn more about Kagami. She wants to know how Takako is able to exert so much power
20:22over Kagami considering that she is nowhere near his level. Apparently, monks are considered special,
20:28and they have three times the strength of a villager at the same level. So in reality,
20:33Takako is not that far off from Kagami's power, but there is something else that sets them apart.
20:39And Takako admits that even if she ever tried to reach Kagami's level, the process would be futile,
20:44and she would never be able to win against him in a fair fight. Back at the tavern, Kagami dissociates
20:49from his surroundings and stares into space as he thinks about his brutal past. As a child, Kagami had to
20:55fight vicious monsters all the time. He was left alone in the world and had no option but to fight
21:01monsters beyond his level. This is precisely why he was able to reach his impossible level
21:05in the first place, because increasing your level is linked directly to the level of the monster one
21:10defeats. Takako also shares this story with Alice, making her wonder if there is perhaps a monster
21:16out there that is level 500. She is worried that some insane person will start killing higher level
21:22monsters and gain as much power as Kagami. Then this person could easily kill the demon king,
21:27making the life of the rest of the demon race a living hell. But Takako assures Alice that no
21:32one in this world could ever rival Kagami's power. This is simply because Kagami is lacking something
21:37precious to every living being. Takako's ominous words leave Alice even more confused,
21:42and she asks her guardian what she means. But Takako teaches Alice to be patient because she is likely
21:48to learn more about Kagami during their journey. Just as things were about to look peaceful,
21:52a monstrous pig falls from the sky, and then several more crash land all over the city. In fact,
21:58it starts raining pigs as people run for their lives, away from the chaos and destruction. One
22:03unfortunate pig even lands right into Kagami's room, alerting him to the madness outside. The city is
22:09being invaded by a demon who has arrived with a flock of ravens and swarms of vicious pig monsters.
22:14The demon declares war on the humans and vows to make them serve the demon king for the rest of
22:19eternity. Alice doesn't understand why someone from the demon race would do something so barbaric
22:24and further ruin the relationship between humans and demons. Meanwhile, Kagami starts flinging the
22:29pigs into the air, taking out the large birds in the process. Kagami also makes sure to collect all
22:35the silver coins dropped by the monsters because even in the middle of such chaos, Kagami is not willing
22:40to let go of his money. As things are about to get dire, Rex and Party arrive in the city
22:45as well.
22:46Rex immediately rallies up the people to use their weapons and take down the monsters of the demon
22:51race. Rex then sends a blast of lighting into the sky, obliterating one of the ravens. He gears up for
22:56another attack, only for Kagami to send a pig flying towards the raven instead. The hero and his party
23:02become annoyed at Kagami's intrusion. Kirill in particular is furious that Kagami is just showing
23:07off his powers. However, there is a method to Kagami's madness as he explains his reason for sending
23:13the pigs flying into the air. He tells Rex and the others that killing a bunch of large monsters
23:18on top of the city is dangerous, especially if a whole bunch of them fall at once. Plus,
23:23the spears and swords used by most of the adventures are quite unpredictable and unsafe. Kagami then
23:29lightly bonks Kirill's head as if trying to teach her a lesson, but the princess just feels insulted
23:35instead. Soon enough, Takako and Alice arrive as well and Kagami is glad to see them safe. Alice tells
