02:38has authority over the rules of the earth. He is highly exalted. Glory be to the Father,
02:45and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever
02:50shall be, world without end. Amen.
02:59Psalm 48
03:01The Lord is great, and certainly worthy of praise in the city of our God, his holy hill.
03:09It is lofty and pleasing to look at, a source of joy to the whole earth. Mount Zion resembles
03:17the peaks of Zaphon. It is the city of the great king. God is in its fortresses. He reveals himself
03:25as its defender. For look, the kings assemble, they advance together. As soon as they see,
03:34they are shocked. They are terrified. They quickly retreat. Look at them shake uncontrollably,
03:41like a woman writhing in childbirth. With an east wind you shatter the large ships.
03:49We heard about God's mighty deeds, and now we have seen them, in the city of the Lord
03:55of Heaven's armies, in the city of our God. God makes it permanently secure.
04:03We reflect on your loyal love, O God, within your temple. The praise you receive as far away
04:11as the ends of the earth is worthy of your reputation, O God. You execute justice. Mount Zion rejoices.
04:21The towns of Judah are happy because of your acts of judgment. Walk around Zion, encircle it,
04:30count its towers. Consider its defences. Walk through its fortresses, so that you can tell
04:37the next generation about it. For God, our God, is our defender for ever. He guides us.
04:47Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning,
04:53is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
05:02Psalm 49
05:06Listen to this, all you nations. Pay attention, all you inhabitants of the world. Pay attention,
05:14all you people, both rich and poor. I will declare a wise saying. I will share my profound thoughts.
05:24I will learn a song that imparts wisdom. I will then sing my insightful song to the accompaniment
05:31of a harp. Why should I be afraid in times of trouble, when the sinful deeds of deceptive
05:39men threaten to overwhelm me? They trust in their wealth, and boast in their great riches.
05:47Certainly a man cannot rescue his brother. He cannot pay God an adequate ransom price.
05:54For the ransom price of a human life is too high, and people go to their final destiny.
06:01So that he might continue to live forever and not experience death.
06:07Surely one sees that even wise people die. Fools and spiritually insensitive people all pass
06:15away and leave their wealth to others. Their grave becomes their permanent residence,
06:22their eternal dwelling place. They name their lands after themselves, but, despite their wealth,
06:29people do not last. They are like animals that perish. This is the destiny of fools and of those who
06:38approve of their philosophy. They will travel to Sheol like sheep, with death as their shepherd.
06:46The godly will rule over them when the day of vindication dawns. Sheol will consume their bodies,
06:54and they will no longer live in impressive houses. But God will rescue my life from the power of Sheol.
07:03Certainly he will pull me to safety.
07:07Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich and his wealth multiplies, for he will take nothing with him
07:14when he dies. His wealth will not follow him down into the grave.
07:20He pronounces this blessing on himself while he is alive. May men praise you, for you have done well.
07:30But he will join his ancestors, and they will never again see the light of day.
07:36Wealthy people do not understand. They are like animals that perish.
07:43Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
07:48as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
07:53world without end. Amen.
08:14Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion,
08:24seeking someone to devour. Resist him, be strong in the faith.
08:34Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who wake, or watch, or weep this night,
08:41and give your angels charge over those who sleep.
08:46Tend the sick, give rest to the weary,
08:51sustain the dying,
08:53calm the suffering,
08:54and pity the distressed.
08:58All for your love's sake.
09:00O Christ, our Redeemer.
09:10Now, according to your word, Sovereign Lord,
09:14permit your servant to depart in peace.
09:18For my eyes have seen your salvation,
09:21that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples.
09:25A light for the revelation to the Gentiles,
09:29and for glory to your people Israel.
09:33Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
09:38as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
09:42world without end.
09:44Amen.
09:49Lighten our darkness, Lord, we pray,
09:51and in your great mercy,
09:54defend us from all perils and dangers of this night.
09:58For the love of your only Son, our Saviour,
10:02Jesus Christ.
10:04Amen.
10:08Our Father, who art in heaven,
10:11hallowed be thy name.
10:13Thy kingdom come.
10:15Thy will be done,
10:17on earth as it is in heaven.
10:19Give us this day
10:21our daily bread,
10:23and forgive us our trespasses,
10:26as we forgive those who trespass against us.
10:31Lead us not into temptation,
10:33but deliver us from evil.
10:37For thine is the kingdom,
10:39the power,
10:39and the glory,
10:41forever and ever.
10:43Amen.
10:47In peace will we lie down and sleep.
10:51For you alone, Lord,
10:53make us dwell in safety.
10:58Abide with us, Lord Jesus,
11:00for the night is at hand,
11:03and the day is now past.
11:07As the night watch looks for the morning,
11:11so do we look for you,
11:13O Christ.
11:17Come with the dawning of the day,
11:19and make yourself known
11:21in the breaking of the bread.
11:27May the Lord bless us and watch over us.
11:30The Lord make his face shine upon us,
11:33and be gracious to us.
11:37The Lord look kindly on us,
11:40and give us peace.
11:43Amen.
