00:01You think you know me?
00:49It's always amazed me the story that Edges' eyes will tell you before the bell rings and sometimes during the
00:56match.
00:58The Rated R Superstar and I've often wondered, Nick Foley, what the R stands for.
01:03Could it be ruthless?
01:04Could it be relentless?
01:06Or will it be renowned when the story is told?
01:10Perhaps all three as we saw in our texting results,
01:15a vast majority of R's fans think they will see something major happen in our next two matchups.
01:21My time has come to change my way.
01:29Well, this is an amazingly gifted and honored athlete.
01:35A young man that as a child attended WrestleMania VI in Skydome in beautiful Toronto where he's from.
01:44He's living his dream as we speak.
01:49He is Edges.
01:50But we may doubt his methods.
01:52But one thing I firmly believe, no superstar brings more intensity to a championship match than does that man, Edge.
02:02And my God, look at the honors of men's won.
02:0412-time Tag Champion, 5-time Intercontinental Champion, 2-time WWE Champion,
02:11and he's on his third world title reign.
02:14Not to mention a couple of monies in the bank.
02:18But that could all come to a screeching halt in Big D tonight.
02:23A crashing conclusion here in Big D.
02:31And you can really feel this anticipation, can't you, JR?
02:35Without a doubt.
02:36Big match field.
02:37Big match it is.
02:38World title on the line.
02:55World title on the line.
02:56World title on the line.
02:56World title on the line.
02:57World title on the line.
03:01World title on the line.
03:02World title on the line.
03:02World title on the line.
03:03World title on the line.
03:04World title on the line.
03:04World title on the line.
03:07World title on the line.
03:08World title on the line.
03:09World title on the line.
03:11World title on the line.
03:31The number one contender for the heavyweight championship of the world is indeed a slobber
03:39of a man. Batista with Leviathan-like strength has one opportunity and only one opportunity
03:54to wrestle the world title from Batman Edge because Batista is now a member of Monday Night
04:02Raw. Edge, of course, with us on Friday Night Smackdown.
04:07Yeah, and I think it's a big honor, JR, that we get the privilege to call Batista's last
04:12match as a Smackdown superstar.
04:15And I know it means so much to him to bring that world heavyweight championship with him
04:19to Raw.
04:27Batista, a man of pride, a man of honor, who at 17 years of age was estranged from both
04:34his parents, was living on his own at 17. That's hard to imagine in today's times. But
04:43he grew up tough in Washington, D.C. And now the pinnacle for Batista could be here tonight
04:49as he would look to become the heavyweight champion for a fourth time.
04:55And I think that tough background has served him really well on Smackdown, especially in
04:59the last several weeks when he's had to overcome so much adversity.
05:06introducing first, the challenger from Washington, D.C., weighing 290 pounds, Batista!
05:20And his opponent from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, weighing 250 pounds, he is the current world heavyweight
05:29champion, the Rated-R Superstar, Edge!
05:38Many people have asked, what will Edge do to keep the world heavyweight title? I think that
05:44anyone that's watched Friday Night Smackdown knows the answer to that. Anything.
05:49The same though, I think, could perhaps be said of Batista.
05:53Yeah, and maybe I spoke a little bit too soon about the unparalleled intensity that Edge brings
05:58to the ring, because that man, if anything, is not far behind. Batista, the animal, is intensity
06:04personified.
06:05This is going to be a very interesting match as we watch the strategy unfold in this contest,
06:10because it's obvious that Batista has a size and strength power advantage over the heavyweight
06:17champion of the world. That certainly doesn't mean that Edge doesn't have a chance, obviously,
06:22not to retain the time.
06:23No, I'm going to tell you that Edge has always got a tremendous champion chance. He brings
06:27so much to the table in terms of intensity, experience, and strategy.
06:35Veteran referee, Mickey Henson, stepping in between the combatants here. And let's not forget
06:41that Edge does have, that man, the champion, has the championship advantage. Meaning very simply,
06:46that the challenger must win by pinfall or submission to leave the World Heavyweight Championship.
06:53That's a feat that the animal Batista has never accomplished in a championship match against
06:57Edge.
06:59Edge is perfect in time, the fences against Batista. And Batista looking to break that streak.
07:13And Edge trying to create some distance, did so momentarily. And the basement dropkick did not score.
07:28Security Riley not very forgiving to the World Heavyweight Champion.
07:32Not forgiving in the least. And Edge is a champion who likes to get out to a fast start. And
07:36that's definitely not the case here at Night of Champions.
07:40Batista shutting down the champion here in the early going. And one, oh, there's a cover. The cover by the
07:46challenger.
07:47Batista is a pounder. A mauler. Using great strength and high impact. And then at some point, just as any
07:56human being would, the human body starts breaking down.
07:59And that's what we're looking for here. If Batista can maintain the offense.
08:04And I think the offense is the key word. There's one thing Batista brings to this match.
08:08Starting first. Starting first to the turnbuckle.
08:11Is the potential to change the game in a hurry.
08:15Any one of Batista's big offensive moves can change a match and win a match in a hurry.
08:21Snap mirror with ease.
08:24And nothing fancy about a big size 14 or 15 boot to the face.
08:32Batista dictating a pace.
08:35Punishing the champion.
08:37Looking to gain one fall.
08:40And become the World Heavyweight Champion.
08:43And look at that champion.
08:44The cover. And Batista.
08:46First up.
08:47And he is dancing with what brought him here to Texas tonight.
08:50Yeah, indeed he is.
08:51Pure power.
08:52But in addition to the power game, Batista, along the way, has become a complete package.
08:56Adding endurance and strategy as well.
09:02Oh man, the impact there.
09:05Thus far, Batista has made really no significance or profound mistakes that I can remember.
09:14No, no, but importantly, he is not wrestling not to lose.
09:18He's wrestling to win.
09:19And I think he needs to do that to prevail in his matchup.
09:22Edge, opportunistically using the ring post as an unnamed tag team partner.
09:31Man, man.
09:32And we have seen Edge as the ultimate opportunist using anything and everything at his disposal to gain an edge.
09:39Or an advantage.
09:42Edge not only punishing Batista using the ring post as an ally.
09:48But it also brought Edge a little bit of time here.
09:51Referee counting out.
09:53Watch this.
09:54Tremendous impact.
09:55Oh, let's take one more look.
09:57The left shoulder.
09:58Oh, left shoulder the animal.
09:59Well, we can look at it all we want.
10:01But the referee is about to count Batista out of Batista.
10:08Remember now, if Batista is counted out, Edge obviously retains the heavyweight title.
10:15And Batista will never have a chance to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship again.
10:23Record Mickey Hibson's got a 10 count to work with in this situation.
10:32How much damage, collateral damage, was done to Batista flying over that announce table.
10:39Well, I can't help but think there was quite a bit of damage.
10:42So, watch his baseball slide descending.
10:44The animal's sprawling over our ECW announce table.
10:49Batista in great shape, no doubt about it.
10:51But his body not meant to be crashing into a wooden announce table.
10:56And then the momentum taking him all the way to the floor.
10:59One, two, three, four, four.
11:00He's endured some world-class poundings at the hands of Edge and La Familia the last several weeks on SmackDown.
11:09The ultimate opportunist, also known as Edge, the heavyweight champion of the world, has created his break, has created his
11:18opportunity.
11:19First with the ring post and then with the announce table.
11:23Two inanimate objects coming into play as Edge uses his right hand very effectively.
11:29Yeah, earlier on this night, Edge is really adamant about reminding Ryder and Hawkins about his own accomplishments.
11:36He may be the most decorated champion in WWE history.
11:40But he is also adamant about doing this on his own without the help of La Familia.
11:48Which would be a welcome change of pace.
11:51No doubt about that.
11:53Edge seems to have had a lot of help politically and from his familia, as you say, Mick.
12:02As Batista tried to fight back in this thing.
12:05Batista's will and his desire.
12:10It's going to be hard to overcome tonight.
12:12But that was a very strategic drop pole hold that again destroyed the vertical base of the challenger.
12:20You know, one thing about Edge, he's a man, does his homework.
12:23Not only does he know Batista well from their battles inside the ring.
12:26Here's a cover.
12:27Swinging nut breaker.
12:28Got a two count.
12:30When you have an opponent as big and as strong as Batista, destroying the vertical base is one of the
12:37keys to success.
12:38Because if he can do that, destroy the vertical base, Batista becomes just a man.
12:43Albeit a strong, powerful man.
12:45Let's put it this way.
12:47Batista is at his best and dangerous when he is at an upright position.
12:53And right now, Edge is using leverage, his own weight to crimp the net of Batista.
12:59And that vertical base is so important to so much of Batista's major league offense.
13:04Whether it be the big spear or the Batista bomb, he needs those legs, those quadriceps to generate that power.
13:11Edge can be called cagey or cunning.
13:14Perhaps even calculated.
13:16But no one can deny the success of the rated R superstar.
13:23I think an unlikely adjective you can throw into that mix is bitter, JR.
13:27It seems to be a bitterness kind of pervading Edge's persona.
13:32He thinks perhaps it took it longer than it should have to get to this level.
13:36And he's, he's hell bent on staying there no matter what the method may be.
13:39And look at Edge, trying that rear naked choke, but Batista rising to that vertical base.
13:45And again, Edge goes to the drop toe hold.
13:49And this time, Batista eats the center turnbuckle.
13:53And the center turnbuckle is not covered with barbecue sauce, let me tell you.
13:57That is a high intact, tough move right here.
14:00Watch it, here's his top toe.
14:02And with a neck, trapezius muscles as heavily muscled as Batistas are,
14:08that physical structure can actually work against a man of his size with that type of maneuver.
14:1316,151 looking on here at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.
14:18First it was the ring post, then the ECW announce table, and now the turnbuckle.
14:24All again, inanimate yet effective objects that the radar superstar is utilizing.
14:30Yeah, he uses everything and anything at his disposal.
14:35Highly skilled, it may sound somewhat ridiculous to some,
14:40but Edge is highly skilled in maneuvering a man like Batista into a ring post.
14:46Yeah, yeah, no, I've said on many occasions, whether it be verbally or in print,
14:49that I think Edge is the most talented superstar in WWE.
14:53It's just that I sometimes question his motives and his methods, but never his ability.
14:57Batista trying to fight back in this thing.
14:59And Batista will go, this gets him to a slipfest.
15:03I don't like Edge's chances.
15:04No, no.
15:05And the net breaker, that's a wrestling maneuver with technique, with leverage applied.
15:10Batista in trouble, the cover.
15:13And you see referee Mickey Henson's hand was going south.
15:17True.
15:18And Edge hesitated for just a moment before going for that cover.
15:22And I think that moment may have really cost him there.
15:26And Edge again, grounding his bigger, stronger adversary in this tremendously hard-fought thus-far main event here at Night
15:36of Champions.
15:38Well, a few moments ago, I said that Batista had changed as a wrestler.
15:43He had gone from being strictly a guy using power to his advantage to putting athleticism, strategy, and endurance into
15:51his game.
15:53As a matter of fact, Jerry, I think he's a guy who's completely redefined what fans can expect from a
15:57guy of his stature.
15:59And Batista, who certainly benefited from being an evolution, just countered a nice movement by Edge.
16:08And Edge now, with that Jeff Grisco roll-off pro corner, and that almost got the three for the world
16:15champion.
16:16Yeah, we saw the animal with a beautiful counter using leverage and momentum, but Edge was there to counter the
16:21counter, which is why he is such an incredible world heavyweight champion.
16:26And thus far, not a peak from La Familia.
16:30Both men have reached down into their resources here.
16:35Both men are obviously spent.
16:36It will become now a matter of will and maybe pushing Edge's tenacity.
16:44And maybe then again, perhaps we shouldn't.
16:46No, because as I've seen time and time again, Edge's, oh, oh, oh, big clothesline for Batista.
16:52Edge's resiliency is an underrated wild card in the Rated-R Superstars arsenal.
16:58Batista like a big heavyweight boxer.
17:01And, uh, by that I mean this illustration.
17:03What's the right?
17:05That clothesline comes from out of nowhere.
17:08Buying Batista some time.
17:09Both men have been through a lot thus far in this heavyweight championship match.
17:13From your 6'6 and 2'90.
17:15One big high impact move can change the entire compunction of a championship match.
17:22And look at this.
17:23Overpowering strength.
17:25Batista looking to become world champion.
17:28Take the title back to Monday Night Raw.
17:35Oh, no, man.
17:36You can do it.
17:36Change it.
17:40Sidewalk slam.
17:42Could be all.
17:43Look at this.
17:45No.
17:46So close.
17:47So close.
17:47So close.
17:48I think a lot of fans in this sellout crowd thought they'd just see the heavyweight championship
17:52change hands.
17:52Edge got a shoulder up.
17:54Referee in great position to make the call.
17:58Batista just can't get frustrated.
17:59Got to stay focused.
18:01Oh.
18:03And there it is.
18:04Oh, my God.
18:05What a slumbered upper spear.
18:07That's got to be.
18:08Oh, my.
18:10How in the heck did Edge Lola's shoulder off?
18:14The fans might not like the count, but he was in, again, perfect position.
18:20I think it shows the resilience of the world's champion.
18:26If he gets, if he got that Batista bomb, JR, I think it would have been over.
18:30Oh.
18:31Another high impact.
18:33Indeed.
18:36Batista speeding it.
18:40Monday night.
18:40Oh, maybe receiving it.
18:44It's.
18:46It's.
18:47It's been trouble.
18:50Oh, it's.
18:51Oh.
18:53That impaler DDT.
18:54An amazing counter.
18:57That should do it.
18:58Oh.
18:59And it almost did.
19:01A near fall.
19:03A strong two count with the counter from the Impaler DDT.
19:09But the question is, how much pain and punishment can Edge or has Edge sustain here?
19:20Edge looking for the home run.
19:22Oh.
19:23And he didn't get it.
19:24Edge swinging for the fences where the spear came up short.
19:29And Batista somewhat uncharacteristically going to the top.
19:35Oh.
19:36An edge counter.
19:38An amazing counter with a drop kick.
19:41Batista with nowhere to go in midair.
19:44Yeah.
19:44Yeah.
19:44That, that top rope is not territory that Batista inhabits very frequently.
19:48They paid for it there.
19:49Watch this.
19:50Edge counters.
19:51The break.
19:52And that counter caught Batista in the sternum driving the air out of the challenger.
19:58Both men are down.
20:00If this match ends in it.
20:02Well, there's our general manager from SmackDown.
20:05Vicky Guerrero along with Hawkins and Ryder.
20:07A little early I said we hadn't seen a peep from La Familia and that's changed here in a hurry.
20:13I'll be respectful of the general manager of Friday Night SmackDown obviously.
20:18Edge right down.
20:19Coyle.
20:20Looking for the spirit of y'all.
20:22Amazing athleticism by Batista.
20:25Batista ball.
20:26That'll do it.
20:27That'll do it.
20:28We've got a new world.
20:30What?
20:31You've got to be kidding me.
20:33Vicky Guerrero.
20:35Just stopped the peep.
20:40What the?
20:42Oh.
20:43And Edge couldn't capitalize.
20:46Edge looked to capitalize.
20:49This did just not smash into the ring post.
20:52But remember Batista can't win the title.
20:55Let's do it.
20:55Now I know technically Vicky Guerrero's general manager is Mickey Henson's boss.
21:00But shouldn't this match be over?
21:02Six.
21:04Six.
21:06Two.
21:07Wait.
21:08What the?
21:08What the heck?
21:09Referee.
21:09You don't put your hands in that.
21:12That's gotta be a disqualification.
21:15And we've got no official.
21:19Wait, wait, wait.
21:21Send me another referee.
21:23Send me another one.
21:25Wait, send me another one.
21:31Ooh.
21:32Chavo.
21:34What?
21:41My God.
21:42This reeks of collusion.
21:44It reeks of nepotism too.
21:45Ooh.
21:46Chavo.
21:48Chavo Guerrero soldering down to the ring.
21:51With that official shirt on.
21:54And boy, how convenient was that?
21:56Hey, wait a minute.
21:56Batista putting his hands on Vicky Guerrero.
22:05The animal.
22:08Has gone.
22:11What am I done?
22:14What am I done?
22:15What am I done?
22:17Oh my God.
22:38My God.
22:39My God.
22:41And just.
22:41Just beat Batista.
22:42No winner of this match.
22:44And still.
22:45World Heavyweight Champion.
22:47The Reds.
22:48Created our superstar.
22:50Edge.
22:54After Edge.
22:55Tells us as.
22:57Impassionfully.
22:58He wanted to do this.
22:59Match on his own.
23:01That Edge wanted to beat Batista.
23:03All by himself.
23:04One on one.
23:05And then we.
23:06We all witness.
23:07This.
23:08Amazing.
23:09Situation.
23:10I wish I could say.
23:12I felt about this.
23:13Situation.
23:14But the bottom line.
23:15As it is.
23:15Is still.
23:16A heavyweight champion.
23:18And Batista's dreams.
23:19Of being heavyweight champion.
23:21Have been eroded.
23:23Destroyed.
23:24By.
23:24Yeah.
23:25Yeah.
23:25He was impassioned.
23:26Indeed.
23:27About wanting to do it.
23:28All by himself.
23:29But in the end.
23:29It took.
23:29His Beyonce.
23:31It took Bam Neely.
23:32It took Chavo Guerrero.
23:34It took Ryder.
23:34It took Hawkins.
23:35It took a travesty.
23:37To hold on to the World Heavyweight Championship.
23:41All right.
23:43Vicky Guerrero could certainly be injured here.
23:45I'm just.
23:46Shocked if she was not.
23:50How Edge can.
23:52Can be proud of this accomplishment.
23:57It should have been over right here.
23:58There it is.
23:59Now watch this.
23:59Watch at the bottom of your screen.
24:00As rugby.
24:01Mickey Henson.
24:02Slides out.
24:03Courtesy.
24:03Of the wheelchair bound.
24:05General Manager.
24:05Vicky Guerrero.
24:06Henson taken off his count.
24:08Didn't make the count.
24:09And then this.
24:10Should have been an automatic disqualification.
24:13Right away.
24:13Right away.
24:14Now that wouldn't have helped Batista.
24:16Because Batista could win the belt.
24:18But then look at this.
24:19Batista had enough.
24:21Batista.
24:22Uncharacteristically.
24:23My God.
24:24Vicky Guerrero.
24:25Sailing through the end.
24:28And then Batista turned around.
24:31And boom.
24:32That huge.
24:33Whirl pile of belt.
24:35Right in the face.
24:36And the ultimate opportunist.
24:39Wins the match.
24:40One up.
24:41One up.
24:42Just in this case.
24:43I cannot blame the animal.
24:45For losing his cool.
24:46And putting his hands on Vicky Guerrero.
24:48He just endured too much.
24:49He finally snapped.
24:54And I cannot believe this whole.
24:56How this whole circumstance came to be.
24:58Edge.
24:59How can Edge be proud.
25:00Of being the world's heavyweight champion.
25:03Retaining his title.
25:04This way.
25:05And for that man.
25:06Batista.
25:06Who's accomplished so much.
25:08And meant so much.
25:09The fabric of Smackdown.
25:10To leave our show.
25:11In that manner.
25:12Is a disgrace.
25:14Well.
25:14I can't blame Batista.
25:16Look at this.
25:17Amazing strength.
25:18Passion.
25:19All Batista wanted.
25:20Was a fair shot.
25:21And this is what he got.
25:23Oh.
25:23Batista got a shot.
25:24All right.
25:24And the ultimate opportunist.
25:27Proves the nickname once again.
25:29Seizing any opportunity.
25:30To hold on to that championship.
25:32But I'll tell you one thing.
25:33Monday Night Raw.
25:34Just getting one hell of an animal.
25:36That will be a beast unleashed.
25:39Come tomorrow night in Oklahoma City.
25:41I've gained so much respect.
25:42Over the past several weeks.
25:43For the animal.
25:44I hate to see him go.
25:45But I know there are big things.
25:47Even bigger things.
25:48In store for him.
25:49Every Monday night.
26:04๋iing in the cam kind.
26:16One time to drop in.
26:17There's gonna be like a float.
26:18The bursting rate.
26:20The lunar movement movement.
26:21One more night.
26:21Oh yes.
26:24One more night.
26:24Certainly one would think that Batista could be, obviously that day he's looked in his eyes after being hit in
26:31the face.
26:33No question, could he really hear the impact, even from our table out there, that championship is clanging off the
26:39skull of the animal.
26:41Batista has that faraway look in his eye.
26:43The day's looked after, could be concussed, so certainly not going to diagnose the man.
26:49But he couldn't have done any more in the ring tonight than he did.
26:52He left everything he had in the ring, didn't Batista?
26:54Yeah, and I think that's also a disappointment in his eyes.
26:57He wanted so badly to bring that heavyweight championship, to restore some of the luster that I think has lost
27:03over the past several weeks, to bring it to Raw.
27:06That's one hell of a man, ladies and gentlemen.
27:09Gave us everything he had tonight.
27:14I guarantee you, you count the folks that took the beat Batista.
27:17There was Edge, and Hawkins, and Ryder, and a referee, and Ben Neely, and of course, our beloved general manager
27:23of SmackDown.
27:24Dickie Guerrero, what's that, seven, eight people?
27:27And J.R., I'm going to just repeat a refrain, how does that woman still have a job here?
27:33Talking out their ears.
27:35I've never understood a damn thing about this year.
27:44One, two, four, five...
27:45Two, three...
27:45...
27:45...
27:49...
27:49You
