Two social psychology students, Trisha and Daniel, investigate Miles Cedars—the mysterious author of the book Smile. Always, which claims society's ills can be cured through forced smiling. After visiting his bizarre "sanctuary," the students uncover a disturbing connection to a shadowy organization known as the Ministry of Joy, leading to a terrifying discovery about what it truly means to be "corrected."

00:01Okay are we on? Yeah. Okay so hi my name is Trish and on camera there is Dan. We're both
00:07studying
00:07social psychology and we're reaching the end of our second year. We're doing a project on this
00:12guy called Miles Cedars and a book that he wrote called Smile Always and we're interested in some
00:17of these theories about correcting society and how society has an illness and that interestingly
00:22smiling is the cure. So we've been invited here to interview him today which hopefully will be
00:28really good for our project and might even be good for his book sales. Or is that alright?
00:33Seemed a bit formal. No he's really professional. Are you getting them in shot? Really awesome.
00:59Hello. Hiya. Welcome. Is that okay? Yes. Come in. You may have noticed some of our advocates
01:09in the garden. They came here with their lives in tatters and this is their sanctuary. It's
01:16an open house where they can come and go as they please. And to be honest, they'll stay.
01:23Follow me. So you say in your book that smiling has the power to press anarchy.
01:35Unfortunately we are a nation of warriors and in these hard times that worry can manifest itself
01:41as anger, rioting and a general lack of respect for our fellow human beings. People have forgotten
01:48what it feels like to be happy. The techniques we teach place joy as a core energy within bodies
01:57and minds. Imagine a world where people smile at one another even then it becomes the norm.
02:04We want to turn warriors into warriors of joy. Okay. So could you tell us a little bit about
02:12your background because it doesn't really say much in the book about how you actually latched
02:16on to these theories. We came here to talk about my book. Let's remain focused shall we?
02:25Well, if I understand that you wouldn't want us to close us- I'll make us some tea.
02:35That was awkward. Well you're not exactly making it any easier.
02:40Steve has got a lot of weird stuff in this house.
02:47Actually, Danny, can we have a look at these? Get them on camera. It says Miles Cedars Tests.
02:54Hey, stick them in your bag. No seriously, stick them in your bag. They might be good for
02:58research or something. What do you think?
03:02Alright.
03:02I'll get them.
03:07I'll get them.
