00:00I now go across to Pune for a story that's coming in that raises a lot of questions.
00:05It's also about the time lapse that we often talk about.
00:08Now, this is about a Pune special court that has sentenced 65-year-old Bheem Rao Kamle to death.
00:14Why?
00:15For the rape and murder of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl child in Nazarapur village.
00:21It's a case that has shocked Maharashtra.
00:24Now, the horrific crime took place on the 1st of May, 2026,
00:28when the accused allegedly lured the child visiting her maternal home to a nearby cattle shed,
00:32then raped and murdered her.
00:34Her family launched a desperate search after she went missing and her body was later found in the shed.
00:39The case moved at a remarkable speed, police arresting Kamle on the same day,
00:43filing a 1,200 long-page charge sheet within 16 days,
00:46and the court framed charges on 20th May.
00:48Final arguments on June 20, verdict on June 25.
00:52So, basically, no delay happened in this case.
00:55In its order, the court called the crime exceptionally heinous and said the accused showed no remorse or possibility of
01:00reform.
01:01I quote it here.
01:02The accused remains a danger to society, the court observed while awarding the death penalty.
01:07The court found the prosecution's case proven through strong circumstantial evidence,
01:11including the last-seen-together theory.
01:14So, remember here, ladies and gentlemen, that while such heinous cases happen in any state,
01:20it is when justice can be given in time, that it can be truly seen as justice.
01:26Look at that.
01:26So, this footage, accessed by the cops, that was the last-seen footage,
01:32with this man on your screen and the child.
01:35They were last seen together walking.
01:36That's when the question started to rise.
01:38Where was she taken?
01:39A three-and-a-half-year-old child,
01:41possibly showing complete faith in this elderly gentleman,
01:45only to be brutally assaulted, raped and murdered.
01:49And that is why we have to, of course, be extra cautious with where our kids are going,
01:54who the kids are with.
01:56But eventually, I appreciate and applaud, one, the investigators and the court
02:01to be able to ensure that the case was decided in no time.
02:04So, basically, as Abhijeet Karande joins me, he's been tracking this case.
02:08Abhijeet, so in a month, in a month, this case is sold, put together
02:15and a judgment is given in this case.
02:17Now, many would ask why the death penalty in this case?
02:20What do you think the court has said to that?
02:26Court has stated that this is the rarest of rare incidents
02:29and the cruelty, what he has been showed when the crime happened.
02:36And that's why the society was also very upset.
02:40We saw the huge agitation protest after the incidents also.
02:44And even court given references of old cases while pronouncing verdict.
02:52And finally, the justice has been given to the very small child,
03:01which is an unfortunate incident, happened one and a half months before,
03:05that she was playing around her home.
03:07And this Bhimrao Kamle, the accused, accused actually give her a piece of chocolates and all.
03:16And he tortured her badly and raped and killed her.
03:22After the incidents in Pune district, in Maharashtra, huge uproar was there.
03:28People were upset.
03:30They were demanding the immediate justice, hang Bhimrao Kamle.
03:36That was the slogan given by the people.
03:38And after the investigation, police fast-tracked those investigations
03:45and concluded all the details of the case,
03:48even the witnesses and the forensic proofs also.
03:54And later today, the court pronounced the verdict that he will be hanged till date.
04:04This is the rarest of rare...
04:05While pronouncing verdict, the court stated that this is the rarest of rare case.
04:09And even the old references were used while pronouncing the justice.
04:15All right, Abhijit, keep tracking the latest on that.
04:17And at least in some cases, we realise how crucial can be a fast-track court decision to really matter.
04:24Let's hope our children will stay safe and will not be at risk.
04:28And they can enjoy their childhood in peace.
