00:00Scene one, take one.
00:05You were very tiny, you were beautiful.
00:08You were a beautiful baby.
00:11Cute little girl.
00:13You were such a pretty baby.
00:15You just looked like a baby, but a very, very tiny baby.
00:21Well, to be quite blunt, you were actually blue,
00:25which I knew wasn't right.
00:27So the delivering doctors then said,
00:30I think your baby has Down's Syndrome,
00:33and you have three options.
00:35You can institutionalise him,
00:38you can adopt him out,
00:40or you can take him home.
00:44I think we can never underestimate the power of language.
00:48From that very moment you were born,
00:50you were labelled Down's Syndrome.
00:52So you weren't referred to by your name,
00:54but you were referred to by a label.
00:57The psychologist was going through the test
00:59and looked up at me and said,
01:03your son is mentally retarded.
01:06The neurologist said to me,
01:09you may have visions of your little girl being a ballerina
01:12and dancing on the stage,
01:14but it's time to put all that aside
01:16because we don't know if she'll even walk.
01:22Despite all, like, the hurdles and that
01:24and everything I've been through,
01:26the final question is,
01:29are you proud of me?
01:31Are you proud of me?
01:33Are you proud of me?
01:37This is when the tears come.
01:39Yes, Liam, I am proud of you.
01:43More than you can imagine.
01:45I actually don't think you'll ever know just how proud I am of you, Nae.
01:50You've done everything you could possibly do.
01:52You went through all of the physiotherapy very heroically.
01:56I'm proud of you, but more than that,
01:59I think I admire you and just look at you and think, wow.
02:02And quite often I think,
02:04jeez, I wish I was a bit more like Shay.
02:07You're funny.
02:09You're cheeky.
02:10I feel very, very lucky to be your mum.
02:14Amazing.
02:15You're just amazing.
02:26Last one.
02:26And so I'm not really good if I choose to check.
02:26Those are extremely different things.
