00:20Tensions in the Red Sea region have escalated once again after a strong
00:25warning from Yemen's Houthi movement targeting Israel's growing influence in the Horn of Africa.
00:32On June 25, 2026, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, the leader of Yemen's Ansarullah movement,
00:41delivered a televised speech in which he raised serious concerns over Israeli activities in
00:48Somaliland. In his remarks, al-Houthi claimed that Israel is seeking to expand its strategic
00:55influence across key maritime routes, including the Gulf of Aden, the Bab al-Mandab Strait,
01:02and the Red Sea. He specifically pointed to development in Somaliland, a self-declared
01:09region of Somalia, which has recently increased its engagement with Israel through diplomatic
01:14and security cooperation. According to reports, Somaliland's leadership has held meetings in
01:21Israel, including discussions on trade, infrastructure, and security partnerships,
01:27further deepening ties between the two sides. Al-Houthi warned that the Houthis are closely
01:34monitoring these developments. He stated that any Israeli presence, military activity, or strategic
01:41deployment in Somaliland or Somalia would be treated as a legitimate military target. He further warned
01:49that the Houthis would not stand idly by and that they are prepared to respond at any time using all
01:55available means. The Houthi leader also called on Red Sea coastal nations to unite and take a firm
02:03position against what he described as Israeli expansion in the region. He framed the issue as a
02:10part of a broader regional struggle, referencing alignment with what he called the axis of resistance.
02:16The Bab al-Mandab straits and Gulf of Aden are among the most strategically important waterways in the
02:23world, serving as critical routes for global shipping and energy transport. In recent years,
02:31the Houthis have already carried out multiple attacks on commercial and military vessels in the Red
02:36Sea, often citing political and regional conflicts as justification. Their latest warning signals an
02:44expansion of concerns beyond Yemen, extending into the Horn of Africa and surrounding maritime corridors.
02:52Israel has not yet issued a formal response to this specific statement, but it has been steadily
02:58increasing its diplomatic engagement with Somaliland in recent months. Somaliland itself remains
03:05internationally unrecognized by most countries, though it maintains internal governance and growing
03:11foreign contacts. Meanwhile, Somalia continues to reject Somaliland's independence and any external
03:19agreements made by its leadership. The situation adds another layer of tension to an already volatile region,
03:27where geopolitical competition, maritime security, and regional alliances are rapidly shifting.
03:34And with threats now extending across Yemen, Somalia, and beyond, the risk of wider escalation cannot be ruled out.
