00:00Right, Joe, why am I here?
00:01Why are they here?
00:02And why am I in a lab coat?
00:03Well, we're going to do a best of blades video
00:04with a difference and I'll explain why in a second.
00:07But what we get, I test these irons all the time.
00:09And when you get a single piece of forged,
00:11some not forged, but we'll get to that,
00:13irons all around 33 and a half, 33, 34 and a seven iron,
00:17they all do the same thing on a launch monitor.
00:18They all come off at the same ball speed,
00:20carry distance, spin rate, launch angles
00:22within negligible amounts from my testing.
00:25So what you're really buying this stuff on
00:27is looks and feel.
00:29So what I've done is I've brought with me
00:3110 of the best blades I believe are out on the market
00:33at the moment, some direct to consumer,
00:36some big manufacturers.
00:37And we've come to Robert Rock's home course of Little Aston
00:41where we're going to blind test them.
00:42We're going to find out what Rob thinks without prejudice
00:45is the best iron based on the looks and the feel.
00:48Does that make sense to you?
00:49Here's a man who's played blades his whole life.
00:50Here's a man with a beautiful swing and classic taste.
00:53So perfect man to use it.
00:55You've, we've taken it off now
00:56because we're filming this after the fact,
00:58but you've covered these in gaffer tape,
00:59black gaffer tape to try and do the best blind test possible.
01:02People will be screaming at the screen now.
01:04Oh, it's going to affect the feel and the swing weight.
01:06It's not.
01:07Do people scream in that voice?
01:08They do.
01:09Okay. Well, it's not, no.
01:10So I've measured out this gaffer tape.
01:11It's less than 1.2 grams going on the back of the club here.
01:14So a totally negligible amount of weight.
01:16Doesn't affect feel at all.
01:18I've tested it with them on.
01:19I've tested it with them off.
01:21So we're going to go.
01:21It's the best we can do.
01:22It's the best we can do.
01:23What about the specs, Joe?
01:25Well, we've done the best we can.
01:26Again, it's not full science,
01:28but I've got as close as I can to getting all of these irons
01:30in from the various manufacturers in Rob's specs,
01:33in terms of his lie angles,
01:34the shaft and the grips we can, within reason.
01:36We've not managed it all the way through.
01:38You'll find about that in a minute.
01:40And I'm going to be sat in the back
01:41while these two are nattering away, taking notes.
01:43Going to rate each one on looks and feel.
01:45And at the end, we're going to find out
01:47in the most scientific way possible,
01:49which is the best blade from the voice
01:51and the brain of Robert Rock.
01:53Should we just get on with it?
01:54Let's go see Rob.
01:55Right, Rob, you up for this.
01:56We've got a blind blade challenge.
01:58I've got the stealthiest bag you've ever seen.
02:00Nice.
02:00That's all blacked out.
02:01All the back of the blades are blacked out.
02:02So you're not going to know what's going to,
02:03and I'm going to hand them to you in a very special way.
02:05So you can't even see any of the back.
02:07We're just judging on profile.
02:09So looks in behind the ball.
02:10What you like to see, whether it's blade length,
02:12whatever you look for in an iron.
02:14Yeah.
02:14And clip a couple away.
02:16And I'll get your impressions of feel.
02:17And then we're going to ask you for a rating out of 10.
02:20And I reckon we need to chuck a decimal point in here,
02:22because there might be a few eights, a few seven.
02:23So we're going to go very...
02:25An overall rating out of 10.
02:26No, each.
02:27We're going to have a rating for looks and a rating for feel.
02:30All right.
02:30So we're going to start off.
02:32Yeah.
02:33Keep your little peepers closed.
02:34Yeah.
02:35There you go.
02:36What do you make of that?
02:38For those of you at home, by the way,
02:40this is going to be up on the screen now.
02:41You're going to know what Rob's hitting before he's hit it.
02:44Yeah.
02:45What's your thoughts?
02:48Thoughts?
02:48I like the shape.
02:50Frontline's nice.
02:51Head's a little smaller than what I normally use as far as blade length.
02:55Heel to toe?
02:55Yeah.
02:56Okay.
02:56But looks good.
03:05Works.
03:06Soft.
03:07Soft.
03:08Soft.
03:08Yeah, that felt nice actually.
03:09How many are hitting three?
03:10Just whatever you need to get a good judge of what you feel fearless.
03:13I feel like I should have a towel in here.
03:14Yeah.
03:15You normally got a towel, haven't you?
03:16Can my glamorous assistant, Dan, can you pass me that towel in please?
03:23Yeah, very soft actually.
03:25That feels nice.
03:26Okay.
03:27Possibly coming off a little lower than mine, but I actually like that.
03:31One more, because I want to ask you a little bit about, what do you make of the bottom line
03:35there?
03:36The white line.
03:37The last groove.
03:37Yeah.
03:38White it out.
03:39Not hugely traditional for a blade.
03:40What do you make of that?
03:41No, I would probably, if this was mine, I would probably scratch it out.
03:45Okay.
03:46But it doesn't bother me.
03:54Yeah, I actually struck them three pretty similar.
03:57Might have found a new gamer.
03:58That was nice actually, I like that.
03:59Come on then, to the ratings.
04:00What we got out looks wise, out of 10.
04:02Looks, I'll give it a seven because it's not my preferred length.
04:07Okay.
04:09Maybe an eight because the shape's nice.
04:11That's what we're settling on, seven and a half?
04:13Seven and a half maybe, yeah.
04:147.5 for looks to start with and feel-wise.
04:17You're complimentary there.
04:18Feels eight to nine, yeah.
04:19So let's go eight and a half.
04:21So we're going seven and a half looks, eight and a half feel.
04:24Yes.
04:25Good.
04:26Any guesses what it is?
04:27It's a ping.
04:28Oh, is it?
04:29Is it, Rob?
04:30Yes, it is, yeah.
04:31What is it though?
04:32Is it though, yeah.
04:33Right, here's a very sneaky way of going again.
04:35Okay.
04:35So the second one is,
04:36the key is don't look at the grip, I would say here.
04:39Yeah.
04:39Okay, yeah.
04:40Thoughts straight away, immediate impressions of a look.
04:45Good.
04:47Any advances on good, Rob?
04:50It appears slightly longer.
04:54So is that something you like in a blade?
04:56Yeah.
04:56You want a little bit of extra blade length?
04:58I don't like it when the blade length goes too short in the short irons.
05:02Okay.
05:02And then you go bigger again when you go to your wedges.
05:05That doesn't make any sense to me.
05:06Based on just pure looks or is that functional?
05:09Just making the whole set flow and I've used shorter blade,
05:15or tried to use shorter blade lengths and didn't get the strike location that I was used to.
05:19Okay.
05:20So most of my golf was played with the Callaway X-Forge, which is longer.
05:24And I've had a middle to slight heel strike on that, which I preferred.
05:28So anything that nudges me towards a toe, I don't like.
05:31Right, that makes sense.
05:32Which I tended to do.
05:33But this is a good looking club, not too low in the heel part.
05:38So for the seven, it looks nicely balanced from sort of toe to a higher heel.
05:44So you don't like it when that heel goes too low?
05:45I don't like going too pointy.
05:46No, I don't like that.
05:47Okay.
05:48Because then that gets more severe when you go into the short irons and wedges.
05:55For the benefits of those watching, the reason I've got this piece of paper is to try and make sure
05:58I give these to Rob in the right order.
06:00I'm not just reading off a script.
06:02Give me your first impression strike there, Rob.
06:04That was slightly firmer feel than the previous one.
06:10I'm good, aren't I?
06:11You are.
06:12Struck it pretty well, I felt.
06:16I actually do like the shape of this.
06:20Didn't hit that one as good.
06:22Clean?
06:23Yeah, a little bit low on the face, that.
06:31Mike, this feels heavier because we've got a dynamic gold in here, haven't we?
06:34Yeah, so again, we have mentioned this in the intro, but these aren't, we couldn't get them all to the
06:38exact specification, but we've got as close as we can with X-Flex shafts.
06:41I think that explains just a very, very tiny mishit there because the weight's slightly different to what I'm using.
06:47I used to use X-100s, but...
06:51Sounded nice.
06:52Yeah, that was good.
06:53It's a different feel.
06:54It's a harder feel because of the shaft, I think.
06:58People overlook that.
06:59Yeah.
06:59The vessel that sends the message from the head up to the grip is pretty important.
07:03Okay, so...
07:04Looks?
07:05Looks a...
07:09Eight.
07:10Solid eight.
07:11Solid eight.
07:12Feel?
07:16I would have preferred that one when I was using X-100s.
07:20It now feels different to me and feels harder work.
07:23Slightly harsher.
07:24Yeah, so the feel's probably seven.
07:28Okay.
07:29Interesting.
07:29Right, next one up.
07:30Now, this is the only one that I couldn't get in seven eyes.
07:32It's a six.
07:33So bear that in mind.
07:34Yes.
07:34But we're talking looks and feel here.
07:35So don't worry too much about that.
07:37Looks and feel, mate.
07:38So again, this will be up on screen for those of you watching, so you'll know what Rob's got in
07:41his hand now.
07:42I know what this one is.
07:43Rob thinks he knows already.
07:44It's a little bit upright.
07:48This, yeah, it's a little bit upright, look.
07:52But I know how to hit these ones, mate.
07:54Yeah, don't you?
07:54I've had a set of these.
07:56So you said to me when we were sort of chatting about this over lunch, you felt you'd be able
08:00to get every iron.
08:01Yeah.
08:02This is the TW.
08:06It'd be bad if it was a Ping G740, wouldn't it?
08:09Wouldn't it?
08:09You look a right fool on YouTube.
08:11That's nice.
08:12I've hit millions of these six times.
08:13Come on, man.
08:14So we don't need to dwell here.
08:15Give me your thoughts.
08:16It's an absolutely fantastic set of irons.
08:18Right.
08:19So looks-wise?
08:19For me, that's at the top end of the best possible blade you can get.
08:25So it's a Lux.
08:26It does everything I want with Lux from the X4s.
08:30It's a long blade length, multi-grooves, exactly what I want.
08:34Higher heel.
08:35It's a nine.
08:37Ten doesn't exist, does it?
08:39Okay.
08:39Can we go nine points?
08:40We'll go nine and a half.
08:41Nine and a half.
08:42Nine point five, please, Dan.
08:43Nine and a half.
08:43And feel-wise, are we similar?
08:45Similar, yeah.
08:46Takes some beating that.
08:47Nine and a half.
08:47Nine and a half.
08:48That's putting down a mark at early doors.
08:51Let me see if I can find the next one.
08:52I reckon this has got half a chance.
08:53I reckon you might enjoy this.
08:54You might enjoy this, right?
08:55Yeah.
08:56Oh, okay.
08:57Yeah.
08:57I know what this is.
08:59This is supposed to be blind.
09:01I know, I know.
09:01You're reading my video.
09:02I know, I know, I know.
09:04The only thing I don't like about this is that bit going a little bit narrow, but that's
09:10totally personal preference.
09:12So what Rob's pointing to there is-
09:13So this bit is a little bit, what's the word?
09:17A little bit narrower than the other ones that I preferred.
09:20So the top line would be a tiny bit squarer.
09:23That's something interesting because I actually prefer the look of that because I like seeing
09:27upright.
09:27That makes things look more upright to me because it kind of raises the toe and I like seeing
09:31upright.
09:32And this does nothing for the function of the shot, does it?
09:36It's just purely what shape of club you like.
09:38Yeah.
09:38And what you've, I suppose what you're used to playing with.
09:43But leading edge, brilliant.
09:46Top lines, lovely.
09:47Face looks, it's just a good club this is.
09:53Do you think much about turf interaction when you're hitting these?
09:55Yeah.
09:56Is that something that you-
09:56Yeah.
09:57And that's pretty nice to be fair.
09:59It's very smooth contact.
10:01And I know the soul of this is slightly different.
10:04I talk about this soul a lot.
10:05That's why I was leading you a bit there.
10:06It's a good soul actually and I would like to have maybe tried.
10:10Probably a perfect set would be my TW with a soul similar to this to see what that would
10:17work like.
10:17Yeah, that's interesting.
10:18Because that's the first one that's done that.
10:21Hey Rob, we've got grinding wheels.
10:22I know.
10:23Expensive experiment though, isn't it?
10:29Clean the face of that for you.
10:31Good club this.
10:32Come on then.
10:33One more.
10:33And then I want your scores.
10:35And then we're at the halfway point very nearly.
10:40That sounded good.
10:41Yeah.
10:41I pulled it a little bit, but.
10:43Yeah.
10:44That's a great club.
10:48What is it then?
10:49That's the Shrixon.
10:50I believe that's a Shrixon blade.
10:52Good, Rob.
10:53Yeah.
10:54So out of 10 for looks.
10:56We didn't love the lower heel area.
10:58Eight and a half.
10:59Eight and a half there.
11:00Only because of the, I know that heel goes lower with the short iron.
11:03So it is.
11:03I could possibly use that set going five, six, seven, eight.
11:09But then.
11:10You'd need.
11:10I'd need a different nine.
11:12I think.
11:13Feel wise.
11:13We like the turf.
11:14Feel and divot.
11:16Nine.
11:18There we go.
11:18We got that, Daniel?
11:19Yes, sir.
11:19Bless you.
11:20Next up.
11:23What are you saying there, Rob?
11:24Oh, different.
11:25Different looking.
11:28Any hunches?
11:30Yes.
11:31Okay.
11:31Keep it to yourself.
11:32Okay.
11:33Try and keep the suspense going here, Rob.
11:37Oh yeah.
11:38Yeah.
11:38You guys know about it, but just let's pretend you don't.
11:41What do you think?
11:44Almost forwards, isn't it?
11:45Almost onset.
11:46Almost.
11:47Because of the little nick in there.
11:49Correct.
11:50But it's, it's a, it's a rounded front.
11:52More like a.
11:53So like the center part of the leading edge.
11:55Yeah.
11:55Sticking forwards a little bit.
11:56Yeah.
11:56And what do you make of that?
11:58I've not hit an iron like that.
12:00Okay.
12:04Very cryptic.
12:05Yeah.
12:05It's possibly going to throw me off a little bit because I've not done it, but.
12:11Oh no, I ain't that good.
12:13What do you think about that, the finish, the sort of brushed rather than chrome?
12:17Are you a chrome guy?
12:18Traditional?
12:20I don't mind that.
12:21I used to be, but I don't mind that now.
12:23Once you're hitting off of them, they all kind of just, it all goes off the face.
12:27All muck up a little bit, don't they?
12:27Yeah, it stops being so, so shiny.
12:30It's only really the look on the back really, I suppose it does that, but.
12:35So now looking down in behind the ball there, because you, you, you dress pretty tight in there.
12:39So you can't even see the front of that leading edge.
12:40No, it's tucking under a bit more I feel.
12:42It's probably, probably not, but it's.
12:47Tiny higher flight.
12:49Popping up a little bit more.
12:50Yeah, we're dynamic gold again here, aren't we?
12:51Yeah.
12:53We're not worried too much about the ball flight and the data.
12:55I'm just focusing more on those sort of unquantifiables of looks and impact feel.
12:59Feels very similar.
13:02I couldn't tell you that it's.
13:05It's not very good at balancing balls, is it?
13:07No.
13:07I couldn't tell you it's particularly harder.
13:09You don't want to stay there, does it?
13:10We'll go there.
13:11There you go.
13:13It's quite good actually for a nice little tight lie actually.
13:15It sits in, sits in well.
13:19That was good.
13:20Yeah, it sounded lovely.
13:22Okay.
13:22Feels good.
13:23Right.
13:24So feel would be on a par with the others, eight and a half, nine.
13:29I don't like that leading edge look, but it's.
13:32Again, that's just because you haven't had a set of irons like that before.
13:36I don't think it does anything bad, but it just does.
13:40The little nick in the heel I didn't like.
13:41So where does that net out for you then and score for looks?
13:44Seven and a half.
13:45Seven and a half.
13:46Next up.
13:47You didn't ask me what it is, but I know what it is.
13:49What do you think it was?
13:50Wilson.
13:51Very good, Rob.
13:52Yeah.
13:53Most patronizing I've ever been to anyone.
13:55It was very good though.
13:56Yeah.
13:57This is the, this is the.
13:58Well, again, this is a tricky one because you've got this in the bag.
14:01I've got these.
14:02Yeah.
14:02So you were always going to know this.
14:04Yeah.
14:06So presumably from a blade length point of view, when you put that down, that's in your
14:09wheelhouse, right?
14:10Yeah, absolutely.
14:11Yeah.
14:11The only way I would improve this club from what I've used would be to put the multi groove
14:16on it that my old irons had, but I've, I use, I'm using these five, sorry, six, seven, eight,
14:24nine.
14:24I'm using of these at the moment.
14:25And the multi groove Rob's talking about is in the P7TW used to be in the Nike VR Pro
14:30blades.
14:31I think it was just essentially more groves.
14:33Yeah.
14:33More grooves.
14:35Less prone to pliers, don't you?
14:36Callaway.
14:36Callaway.
14:37I've, I've done that on numerous sets before.
14:43More than welcome.
14:44But it's a squarer.
14:46It's a squarer blade, isn't it?
14:49I mean, they're not running parallel, but yeah.
14:52I like the look of this, which is why obviously why I've been, I've been using it.
15:00And feel wise then, cause obviously you necessarily wouldn't hit this side by side with some of
15:04the irons you've tested here.
15:05Yeah.
15:05How does it compare to say, you guessed it, the Wilson you've just hit or in terms of,
15:12is that a soft blade?
15:13Is that a firm one to you?
15:14They're all, they're all pretty similar.
15:17I think.
15:17Yeah.
15:20Yeah.
15:20Yeah.
15:21It's only really the shafts that I've noticed the difference in the weight and the firmness
15:25of it.
15:26We're hitting the same balls.
15:28We're in Pro V1s with everything here.
15:29Yeah.
15:35Cool.
15:35Get a score.
15:37Because I've obviously chose to use that anyway.
15:39It's just a straight nine and nine.
15:41I think I wouldn't use it otherwise.
15:44That's fair.
15:44Right.
15:46We're on the home stretch.
15:48Are we?
15:48Spanner in the works for you.
15:49What do you make of that?
15:52No idea what that is.
15:53Good.
15:57Initial thoughts?
15:58Look pretty good though.
16:00In terms of blade length, shaping, everything?
16:02Yeah, for what I like.
16:03Yeah.
16:05Yeah.
16:06Nice.
16:06Good.
16:08What shaft have we got in it?
16:09KBS.
16:10Mm-hmm.
16:15Oh, soft.
16:17Is that the head or the shaft?
16:18I don't know.
16:19I know.
16:20Do you?
16:21Yeah.
16:21You know, do you?
16:22Tested these a lot.
16:24I'm a big fan here.
16:28Yeah.
16:28Yeah, sir.
16:31Soft was your first impression, right?
16:33Yeah, yeah.
16:33Nice.
16:33That was very much my first impression as well.
16:36Could be the softest one so far.
16:40That was good.
16:44Need any more with that?
16:45No.
16:46Nice club, that.
16:46Don't know what it is, but very nice club.
16:50Probably eight and a half for looks and a nine for feel.
16:54Very, very interesting.
16:57You have, yes.
16:58There's one to add.
16:59I'll put it at the end, Dan.
17:00Yes.
17:04Nine.
17:07Right, so once again, you'll know what Rob's got in his hands here.
17:10Tight list.
17:11Yeah, I knew you'd know that one.
17:12Why was that immediately apparent to you?
17:15Tight list has just got a look about their irons, haven't they?
17:19There's something, this is a straighter version of a tight list.
17:23Less offset.
17:24Less offset.
17:25Very nice.
17:27This is in quite tight.
17:29So the starting line of the grooves into the hosel are tighter.
17:34My ones that I use are just nudged a little further out.
17:36Bit more of a gap.
17:37Yeah.
17:38This is slightly more upright than the others.
17:41Probably by a degree or so.
17:46Lovely.
17:48Yeah.
17:49Nice.
17:50Maybe I should bend mine a little bit more upright.
17:53That was good, wasn't it?
17:54That was nice.
17:54Yeah, I did that.
17:55Sounded great.
17:56Tight list great clubs.
17:57It sounded great as well.
17:59Yeah, I can't.
18:00If you put this on the right lie, really, other than that little bit in the heel that I probably
18:05wouldn't choose.
18:06Okay.
18:07I'd have to use this enough to see where I'm actually striking it.
18:12And if I was hitting these out the middle reliably, 100% could use these.
18:16Okay.
18:16Interesting.
18:19Use Vokey wedges, don't I?
18:20It's kind of a natural thing to...
18:24That felt lovely.
18:26Lovely.
18:26That was probably the best one.
18:27Sounded superb, that.
18:28Yeah, I hope that's picked up on audio.
18:30That was nice.
18:31That felt great.
18:31Come on then.
18:31Great club.
18:33We're going to change the bag here, Rob?
18:36No, I'm too much practice to change clubs.
18:38I like mine as they are, but that's a very, very good club.
18:41Looks.
18:42I'd go nine and nine again there.
18:46Okay.
18:47Solid.
18:48Right.
18:49Last two.
18:50Then we'll let you go home.
18:51How's that sound?
18:53Good.
18:55Don't know what this one is.
18:56I might get there in a minute.
19:02The game isn't to guess what it is.
19:03The game is just to tell me what you think of it.
19:05All right.
19:05So upright again.
19:07So not quite how I want it to sit.
19:11Don't quite like the finish all across the face.
19:15Nothing's sort of standing out.
19:17As in sometimes you get the chrome stripped down side, but then the grooves.
19:20I don't like that standing out too much one way or another.
19:22That.
19:24It reminds me a bit of a Mizuno JPX, but I don't think it is.
19:30They use the JPX for a while, but it's not that.
19:33I'm pretty sure it's not that.
19:36I hope I don't catch a big stone under this.
19:38I hope not.
19:39Because that's one of mine.
19:40Is it?
19:40Yeah.
19:42That's why it's a little bit upright.
19:43Yeah.
19:43That's why it's gone a bit left on you.
19:46Yeah.
19:47That's why it's gone a bit left on you.
19:49Feel wise?
19:50Strike felt very good.
19:51Yes.
19:51The feels up there with the others like an eight and a half, nine.
19:57I don't like that.
19:59Okay.
20:00Yeah.
20:00That spoils the look of the club to me.
20:02What Rob's saying there is it's got a KBS C taper shaft in,
20:05which is kind of a brushed steel.
20:06You're more of a traditional chrome step man, aren't you?
20:08Blade's got to have chrome.
20:11What are you doing for that, innit?
20:13Do you have the chrome finish?
20:14I'm just really strong, Rob.
20:15There's only so many shafts that can handle it.
20:17Okay.
20:22Yeah.
20:23Lovely feeling club.
20:25If we just tweak that down a little bit, that'd be excellent.
20:28Okay.
20:28Cool.
20:30I can tell you you were on the right lines with Mizuno.
20:32Yeah.
20:32Don't know which model though.
20:33You were there.
20:34You were there.
20:34You knew.
20:35Come on then.
20:35Looks wise.
20:36Looks wise.
20:36Ignore the upright because that's not its fault.
20:39Eight and a half.
20:40Yeah.
20:41The face looked really good.
20:42Probably be a nine if it had a chrome shaft in it.
20:45Feel wise is a nine.
20:47Well, we've got to put it up to a nine because it can't help the shaft that I put in
20:50it.
20:51All right, fine.
20:52Yeah.
20:53Eight and a half.
20:53Eight and a half.
20:54Right.
20:54Last one.
20:54This will be a little bit upright as well.
20:56Okay.
20:56A bit of a wild card for you.
20:58Wild card.
20:58Look at the shaping on that.
21:00Will I have used this at all?
21:02I don't think you will have done.
21:09I love this sort of suspenseful glare.
21:11Yeah.
21:11I'm just pondering what it looks like.
21:13The tension's palpable.
21:15The grooves are good.
21:16It is a little upright.
21:18Probably in between.
21:19It's not too small.
21:22A tiny little bit longer blade length.
21:24That'd be on the money for me because it's nice and straight down the front.
21:28Just minimal offset.
21:31But yeah, I quite like that.
21:32Okay.
21:32Good.
21:33My eyes have gone a bit funny then.
21:34I was looking too hard at the grooves.
21:36Need a minute.
21:36Yeah.
21:39This will probably go a little left as well because this one needs a touch upright.
21:42Okay.
21:50Sounded good.
21:50Yeah.
21:53Up in the air a little bit.
21:55Are these all the same loft?
21:56Yes.
21:57They're all set to exactly 33 and a half.
22:00I think I did.
22:00Okay.
22:01Can I just give you a little wipe there, please, Rob?
22:03Okay, mate.
22:03And the club.
22:08There is more grooves on that, isn't there?
22:10Is it just appearance?
22:12We'll get to that.
22:12Yeah.
22:13I like that.
22:13I like them.
22:15Is that just simply because that's something you felt in the P7TW before?
22:18Yeah, I like it.
22:19That multi-groove thing, something you always look for?
22:22I think this is a Cobra.
22:30Yeah, it's a good club, that.
22:31I like that.
22:31So that's X100 again.
22:34So to judge the feel entirely, I think we'll have to do them all with the same shaft.
22:39Yeah, this isn't the world's most scientific test.
22:41I'll grind you.
22:42But I just wanted to get your vibes and your feels.
22:44And I think we've got some scores.
22:45So we just get your final score here.
22:47So that would be a...
22:48So you're complimentary of the looks of that.
22:49Yeah, that would be a nine looks.
22:52And...
22:54Hard to...
22:56It's at least an eight feel.
22:58Maybe eight and a half.
22:59Nine and eight and a half.
23:01Dan, we've got that.
23:01So now we're going to have to pause for about three and a half hours for Dan to add up
23:04these numbers.
23:05Because maths isn't his strong point.
23:06And we'll get to the reveal now.
23:08Scores, Joe.
23:10Scores, Dan.
23:11We'll do the top three in a minute, but I want to talk about some surprises.
23:13Can we talk about what came last?
23:16Yeah.
23:16It was that one there.
23:17It was Iron B, Rob.
23:19It was what, sorry?
23:20Iron B, which you knew what it was because you could see it on the grip.
23:22But...
23:23The Hogan.
23:24Yeah, maybe struggled with the shaft that was in it, yes.
23:27However, on the feel front, but the looks, that's a classic blade.
23:32Any differences to you now we've taken this sort of secretive tape off?
23:35But it's got some classical nods to some classical blade design.
23:38Yeah.
23:38And a Hogan blade iron is an unbelievable club.
23:42And they've done so many great models.
23:44And that looks really nice on the back, doesn't it?
23:46It's cool from the back.
23:46Yeah, it's cool.
23:47Yeah.
23:49What did I say about that?
23:50The feel struggled because of the DG that was in it.
23:53Yeah.
23:54And the looks were about an eight.
23:55It was there or thereabouts.
23:56It just had the lowest feel score of the lot.
23:58And that may have been because it was the first X100 I hit in the test.
24:02Of the day, yeah.
24:02So it surprised me a little bit that it does.
24:04But that looks a great club and it's got a nice soul to it.
24:09I think that you're criticising the validity of my testing.
24:11Is that right?
24:12It might be, yeah.
24:13Hey, no, no, no.
24:14Let me spin this one.
24:14A Hogan iron shouldn't come out towards the bottom end, should it?
24:18I don't think so.
24:19But there was nothing you disliked, was there?
24:21No, I don't dislike anything about that.
24:23But it's the proof of the shaft.
24:24The shaft's the important thing.
24:25If we'd have gone straight from sort of nip on to nip on with this,
24:31we might have had a better resort.
24:32Hey, there's another video for another day.
24:34We'll squeeze more out of Rob.
24:35Good.
24:35I've always liked Hogan iron, so I'm not going to.
24:38We can't criticise.
24:39None of them did badly.
24:40Let's do this one because you love the feel of this one.
24:42I don't think you knew what it was either.
24:43Iron on for everybody.
24:44Any guesses, Rob?
24:45Rip that off.
24:46You unveil that one yourself.
24:48I actually don't know what that is.
24:49Would it be any surprise for you to know it's less than half the cost of every other iron in
24:53there?
24:54Oh, wow.
24:54Okay.
24:54Less than half price of everything else that we've just tested there.
24:57And your first impression was, yeah, looks fantastic.
25:01Yeah, it still does.
25:01The award nine on feel and actually just listening to the way you spoke,
25:05it was a strong nine with the words you used.
25:09No, it's a good shape too, yeah.
25:10That's a good club.
25:11And they're what?
25:12600 pounds, four-to-pitching wedge.
25:16Can't say fairer than that.
25:17No, very good.
25:17Very good.
25:18That's good validity for that.
25:19Where did that one rank?
25:20That one got 17.5, which is technically a very, very congested tide for fourth.
25:25Okay, yeah.
25:26So it's absolutely-
25:27That's good value, isn't it?
25:28That's good value.
25:29That was interesting to know.
25:30And this is Joe's gamer.
25:32This is what I'm playing, Rob.
25:32That you guessed was a Cobra.
25:34Yeah.
25:34I'm surprised you did.
25:35So this is the only iron that you've tested today there that isn't forged.
25:39This is 3D printed.
25:40Is it a 3D printed?
25:41Oh, interesting.
25:41This is Cobra's 3D printed MB.
25:42Yeah, cool.
25:43So the only one that isn't forged.
25:44I bent this three degrees up, right?
25:46And one of the most-
25:46What, just to try and make it harder for me?
25:48Yeah, yeah.
25:48Specifically for that.
25:49But because the only one that isn't forged, this is a really tough bend.
25:53So this is technically really hard.
25:55So you know when you're bending a forged iron, just breathe on it and it goes.
25:59This is a bend like a cast iron.
26:01It's so hard.
26:02Yet when you hit it, again, your first thoughts were soft.
26:05And I think that feels-
26:06Cool looking club.
26:07Really cool, isn't it?
26:09In terms of shelf appeal.
26:10Yeah, I like that.
26:11In terms of impact feel to be going up against all fully forged clubs and come out as scoring
26:15very highly on the feel side of things.
26:17I'm biased.
26:18I'm playing it.
26:18I've spoken at length about how much I love this club.
26:21I'm glad you didn't absolutely-
26:22You've spent that a lot, haven't you?
26:23Yeah, it's three degrees upright.
26:25And if we did do performance in this, Joe-
26:27If we did do performance in this-
26:28Sorry, we're sharing a mic.
26:29If we did do performance, it would be fascinating to see where this stacked up from a forgiveness
26:33side of your front-back dispersion, all of these things.
26:36It's another video idea I've just had.
26:37Yeah, I think so.
26:38Yeah, that'd be worth testing side by side with exact specs and everything.
26:44Top three.
26:45Let's do top three then really quickly.
26:46So tied second, Titleist and Callaway both getting 18 out of 20.
26:50Yeah.
26:51Both scoring nine out of nine in each category.
26:54Yeah.
26:54Clubs you're familiar with, Rob.
26:55And I guess that's why they came out.
26:57Yeah.
26:58I'm familiar with the look of both of them.
27:01I've got Titleist wedges.
27:03So I know what they look like.
27:05I've hit Titleist islands before.
27:07I've never actually used since or right in the early Tiger Woods days of the Titleist blade.
27:14I haven't used a Titleist blade since then.
27:17But always, always.
27:19And look better now that they've got a straighter line to the front, in my opinion.
27:23If we had a tiebreaker right now, Rob.
27:26If we had a tiebreaker right now, Rob.
27:28If we had a tiebreaker right now, Rob.
27:28Yeah.
27:28And I showed you them.
27:29You had to sit them in the bag.
27:30And I know you've got one of these in the bag right now.
27:32Yeah.
27:33Would this change your mind?
27:36Because I think the Titleist blade is maybe the cleanest looking blade from that angle
27:41that I've ever seen.
27:43You've got a bit more going on on your Apex CV with the weight, etc.
27:46It's not as classic.
27:47Would that tilt your opinion in any way?
27:50Or am I just being too fussy?
27:52Do you even look at that part, Rob, really?
27:54No, I do.
27:54I do, yeah.
27:55I do.
27:56I like this portion, which actually reminds me of a Hogan set that I've got at home, the Precision.
28:07So I've got a set of 1953 Hogan's at home that have got a little cutout at the front.
28:13And they just, I like that shape.
28:15So that's why I use these.
28:18And the fact that I just like these Callaway irons anyway.
28:21I've nearly always used Callaway irons.
28:23That does look pretty nice.
28:25I would like that just a tiny bit smaller.
28:28Ooh, good shot.
28:29What do you think?
28:29Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
28:30I agree.
28:31I just love that there's no, we haven't got all of this stuff.
28:34Yeah, that's clean as anything.
28:35That's nice and polished there.
28:37If that was the size that it is on the wedges.
28:39Yeah.
28:40Bang on the money.
28:41Great shot.
28:41Yeah.
28:42Right.
28:42Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
28:42We all know what it is.
28:43It's the best kept secret in this video.
28:45But the TaylorMade won by a whole point, actually 19 out of 20.
28:48And you said it was nearly the perfect blade, really, for you.
28:50And Tiger Woods has had his influence on that, which I believe he has.
28:54Absolutely.
28:55Who's to argue with that?
28:58So there you have it.
28:59Yeah, that is the best blades with Robert Rock, as blind as we could do it, as scientific
29:04as we could manage, and making those results what you will.
29:07Well, I think if we both come in a lab coat next time, Joe.
29:10Blinds hold me next time, so I can't see him.
29:11Blinds hold him.
29:12So many for the ideas.
29:13What a fake strike, Rob.
29:14We'll see, won't we?
29:15We'll see, won't we?
29:16It's a good test for me too.
29:18Right, that was fun, wasn't it, Joe?
29:19For those still with us, thank you very much.
29:21Here is a full list of the ten irons in the leaderboard position with the breakdown of
29:25the score.
29:25It was very close, but I guess it would be, because these are all ultimately just lumps
29:28of metal with very slight adjustments to them.
29:31That's a bit facetious.
29:32Anyway, any surprises from that?
29:35A little.
29:36I think the one that didn't surprise me, obviously, the couple of irons that he's played
29:40being high up there.
29:41As soon as it was in his hand.
29:41Twigged them, saw them immediately from the profile.
29:43That's what he's talking about.
29:44No doubt.
29:45And makes very good sense that he would rate them highly.
29:48So he's obviously making good decisions around his irons.
29:51It also surprised me how hyper aware of almost everything, what it was, despite it all being
29:56blacked out, which made a mockery of the blind test, frankly, but was still really interesting.
30:00The one that maybe didn't surprise me, but might surprise people at home, Tacoma.
30:04I've been saying it since day one, when I tested that 301 MB, I was chatting so much
30:09about how soft they felt and how much softer than some of the irons, the Muras I've tested,
30:15the Mizunos, the stuff, the Japanese heritage that people go on.
30:17Are you telling me that a Chinese forged iron or Taiwan can possibly be as soft?
30:22Well, yeah, I am.
30:23And so could Robert Rock.
30:24So I feel very vindicated in that sense.
30:28Oh, that's good for you.
30:28Congrats.
30:29It is good for me.
30:29And it's also, it was very interesting for me to see the iron iPlayer, that Cobra 3D PMB.
30:35Again, his first thought was soft, feels great.
30:38And that is the only one of the bunch that isn't forged.
30:41So again, there's a lot of people saying, how can this modern 3D printing possibly feel
30:46as good as old forged, the old ways?
30:49Well, once again, there's more evidence to support what I've been saying there around 3D printing.
30:54I genuinely believe that's the future.
30:56And I think Rob was really surprised. We spoke off camera about that as well.
30:59He really enjoyed that.
31:00He really liked that. We had to try and teach you about 3D printing,
31:02which is a little awkward because we don't really know it yet.
31:04Anyway, I would like to, Joe, one day do this all in Rob's specs.
31:08One final thing I will say, you mentioned about shaft and Rob spoke about it a lot.
31:11The vessel that takes the strike and the impact feel from here all the way up there and to your
31:16hands.
31:17That test, I think, showed a lot of the importance of that because he immediately noticed the difference
