00:00Good evening, hello and welcome. You're with the news today, your prime time destination news,
00:04newsmakers talking points Tuesday night. The big question, whether it be through flooding or due
00:09to a fire, why must India students always pay the price of civic apathy? What happens to our much
00:16touted smart cities? Why are they turning into debt traps? We'll raise the questions with special
00:22reports that expose the negligence in Lucknow and beyond. Also, Tamil Nadu chief minister Vijay's
00:31blockbuster assembly address. Has he made the transition from a real abhineta to a real leader?
00:39And a tragic story that's horrifying. Why murder if being forced to marry that Pune story? It's also
00:48on the news today. But first, as always, it's time for the nine headlines at nine to nine.
00:56Glaring lapses emerge after a deadly inferno in Lucknow. No emergency exit building lack necessary
01:04permits. Four officials are suspended and four accused are arrested. A fire filed against the
01:12business owner. Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav now under fire after a newspaper report in
01:21Indian Express claims after taking oath, Yadav's family acquired 168 acres land. Chief minister's
01:28office rejects the claim. Says Yadav and his wife have not purchased any land since December 2023.
01:37Two days after the neat retest, Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan accuses Congress leader Rahul Gandhi
01:44of fear-mongering among students. Opposition stays adamant on his resignation.
01:52Shocker from Maharashtra's Pune. Women and lover arrested after they pushed her fiancé Ketan Agarwal of
01:59Lohagat. Lohagat fought on June 18. Rope revealed similar attempt was made four days earlier as well.
02:08Intense Vijay versus Udaynidi Stalin. War of words inside the Tamil Nadu assembly. The Tamil Nadu
02:15chief minister accuses DMK of corruption. Says TASMAC revenue was diverted to party funds. Udaynidi
02:22Stalin hits back. Says stop acting, start governing. 12 Indians among the 13 killed in Qatar's gas plant
02:31explosion. The explosion occurred at the Ras Lafan LNG production hub. Authorities described the incident
02:37as a technical accident. Amidst the fragile peace in West Asia, Donald Trump waived sanctions on Iran
02:46oil but says all ships in place to reinstitute Ormu's blockade if needed. Meanwhile, Iran also
02:52agrees to allow nuclear inspections.
02:56Vishap Pant returns to the Delhi capitals in a swap deal featuring Kuldeep Riyadhav two abysmal
03:03seasons with LSG for the 27 crore buy. He now comes back to Delhi at a much reduced price.
03:11India's unsung heroes among others honoured at Rashtrapadi Bhawan actors Mahmuti R. Madhavan
03:16Singh Alkar Yagin, former team India captain Rohit Sharma conferred with Padma awards.
03:21Thank you very much.
03:24Thank you very much.
03:38But the story that's breaking this evening, the political heat is now building up on Madhya
03:43Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav after the Indian Express report this morning cited a windfall rise
03:50in assets owned by Mohan Yadav and his family members. According to the report,
03:56the family bought 253 acres after he became the Chief Minister. Madhavan's Chief Minister is denying
04:03any land fraud in Ujjain. The MPCMO sources are claimed no land bought by Yadav after becoming
04:10Chief Minister. No land was bought by his wife as well and a full clarification will be released soon.
04:16The news report has triggered a political storm because the fact is that a number of cases,
04:23Mr. Yadav and his family benefited from a change in land user that has taken place in several of
04:30those properties with roads also being moved through the very areas where the property had
04:35been bought by Mr. Yadav and his family members. According to the report, there is clear cases of a
04:42lack of propriety and a conflict of interest that led to windfall profits for Mr. Yadav and his family
04:49members, all of whom had various property companies. The opposition now is paying for his blood,
04:57demanding Mohan Yadav's resignation, claiming this is a major land scam that has taken place.
35:51I want to thank my guests for joining me on that debate and we will keep raising these
35:56issues of public concern because the apathy is unacceptable. Human lives in this country
36:03country cannot come so cheap especially those of our young okay let me turn from there to
36:10our other big story because today was in a sense a debut for Tamil Nadu's high profile
36:16chief minister actor turned politician Joseph Vijay turned the assembly of Tamil Nadu into
36:24a political stage and his first big speech after becoming chief minister he took on his
36:30critics, critics, rivals even recreating a trademark MK Stalin gesture.
36:35Why did this speech catch the eye?
36:38Take a look.
36:42Tamil Nadu chief minister Joseph Vijay delivered a no holds barred speech in the assembly on Tuesday
36:49taking aim at critics for dismiss TVK as merely an actors party.
37:15The chief minister reminded the house that TVK fought alone, bagged 35 percent votes and emerged
37:23as a single largest party.
37:38The chief minister Vijay then switched the attack mode accusing the previous DMK government of
37:47diverting TASMAC revenue towards party funds and promised corruption free governments.
38:17Amid strong criticism by opposition, chief minister Vijay hit back saying the crime did not begin
38:23on May 10 when TVK came to power and further vowed to strengthen law and order.
38:54And the drama did not end there.
38:56Vijay triggered laughter in the house after narrating an anecdote and recreating MK Stalin's
39:02trademark hand slashing gesture.
39:05In response, Udayanidi said that while Vijay was asking about Stalin's whereabouts, a wife
39:12was still searching for her missing husband in the Chengalpattu court.
39:15Leader of opposition, Udayanidi Stalin also hit back accusing the chief minister of dodging
39:21key questions and demanding proof for his corruption allegations against the DMK.
39:29He added that Vijay appeared to have come straight from a shooting spot and has turned the assembly
39:35into a cinema theatre.
39:55In Tamil Nadu, politics and cinema have always shared a script.
39:59Today, the assembly added yet another dramatic chapter.
40:03With Pramod Madhav and Anagar Keshav in Chennai Bureau Report, India Today.
40:12Okay, let's then turn to our face-off today because has Vijay made the transition from real
40:18neta to a real neta now?
40:20Dr. Syed Hafiz, spokesperson DMK is joining me and Felix Gerald, spokesperson of the TVK is also with us.
40:28Dr. Hafiz, you know that DMK has always poured scorn on Vijay.
40:33You got it horribly wrong because he became party number one, is now chief minister after Tamil Nadu.
40:38Even now, after his first speech, there was a sense that you were still treating him as an actor
40:44and not as someone who has won the confidence of the people.
40:48He is accusing you in turn of looting TASMAC funds and of serious corruption.
40:53How do you respond?
40:57Sir, the chief minister still thinks he's a hero.
41:00His passion for acting, his passion for cinema and screenplay, we all know he's a wonderful guy.
41:06If he wants to continue, I think he should do it outside the assembly.
41:09He can take a break, act in the films, not inside the assembly.
41:12Today was a serious day.
41:15Historically, the MLAD assembly has seen chief minister giving speeches when they become chief minister for the first time.
41:22They show the vision of the government, their commitment for the future.
41:25Here, the state is witnessing three important issues.
41:29There's continuous sexual offence where the TBK office bearers are being charged, arrested.
41:35One, a serious allegation against the sitting MLA of the TBK party threatened,
41:40intimidated the sexual assault survivor who happens to be the cadre of the same party.
41:47There was no mention about that.
41:49Continuously, we are demanding that at least there should be an inquiry.
41:52It is not just an allegation. Three times the survivor has come on and given a press meet.
41:59And in fact, a complaint with the judge has been lodged.
42:01It's around 20 days now.
42:03Not a single investigation on a TBK MLA.
42:05They have arrested TBK office bearers, but the charge of intimidation by TBK MLA not to complain...
42:12No, he is...
42:14Sir, you are before...
42:15Sir, you are...
42:16Sir, but he is saying my vision is of a corruption-free Tamil Nadu.
42:21That's his vision, he says.
42:22He says, I am a politician for the Aam Admi.
42:26He has invoked Anna Durai.
42:28He has invoked Kamraj.
42:30He says, I am going to stand for the ordinary citizen.
42:34Sir, that same ordinary citizen is a sexual assault survivor, sir.
42:38Let the Chief Minister say something about it.
42:40Give assurance, give confidence to the women of Tamil Nadu saying that no matter what,
42:46even if it's in my MLA, action will be taken.
42:49You didn't speak about that.
42:51You spoke about the farmers who are protesting, saying they have been initiated by third-rated people.
42:57In fact, that happens to be a protest by the Communist Party of India, who is giving you external support.
43:02So, this is completely an oxymoron.
43:04Vijay wants to paint a cosy picture of anti-corruption and distract the people from core vital issues.
43:11There is power cut.
43:12You have not answered.
43:13You are saying you are going to give a white paper on power cut and EB.
43:17So, this is going to continue.
43:19See, whatever he spoke in the floor of the house, we are welcoming it.
43:23If it's about party funds, let him bring it.
43:26We are ready to face the charges.
43:27Let him find the case, we will find it.
43:30But there are more serious...
43:31Okay, I've got...
43:35Okay, I've heard you.
43:38Felix, the fact is that Vijay has still not given a single interview since he's become Chief Minister.
43:43He's never really explained his position on critical issues beyond saying I'm anti-corruption.
43:48Today, he says that I am...
43:50I know who my ideological opponents are, who my political opponents are.
43:55He says that I'm going to...
43:56I follow Periyar, but I'm not against religion.
44:01Let's get it clear.
44:02What does Vijay stand for?
44:04Is it just anti-corruption, a bit like what Arvind Kejriwal claimed he stood for in 2013, 2014?
44:10What is really Vijay all about?
44:12We, as a party, and our leader, as a Chief Minister, our stand is for secularism.
44:19And our stand for clean and corrupt free government.
44:22A transparent administration.
44:25Today, the entire speech, the moment our Chief Minister said party fund, they started agitating.
44:33They were not able to digest.
44:36And, you know, they were demanding evidence.
44:41And on December 3rd, 2025, ED submitted a 258-page report.
44:49The entire report has a lot of WhatsApp chat messages, screenshot of the WhatsApp messages.
44:55And it is between various officers and, you know...
45:01What's his vision?
45:02No, no.
45:03Felix...
45:03Let me finish this.
45:05Let me finish this.
45:06Saying that...
45:06No, no.
45:07What is his vision?
45:08No, no.
45:09What is his vision for the future of Tamil Nadu?
45:12Corrupt free government.
45:14Eradicate leakages.
45:15Eradicate corruption.
45:18And give a very secular life, a secular ideology.
45:20And we...
45:22He had...
45:23You understand him as an individual.
45:25He was...
45:25He was a child born for a cross-faith family.
45:28His father is a...
45:30Is a...
45:30Is a Christian and mother is a Hindu.
45:32He believes in both religion.
45:34And he openly accepted...
45:36Accepted and declared that...
45:38We...
45:39I believe in God.
45:41Except this...
45:4387 from Periyar, I...
45:45I...
45:45I...
45:45I take everything.
45:46This was the declaration given in the first political public meeting.
45:52And the same...
45:53The same day we declared...
45:55Am I...
45:55Am I...
45:56Am I right?
45:57Felix, am I right when he says that for him...
45:59The BJP is his ideological opponent.
46:03Yes.
46:03The Dravidian parties are his political opponents.
46:05Am I correct?
46:06Not...
46:07Not...
46:07Not the entire Dravidian party.
46:09It is...
46:09GMK is the political opponent.
46:11And BJP as a party is an ideological opponent.
46:14We are very clear.
46:15We will fight against GMK at the state.
46:18And we will fight against BJP at the center.
46:21This is ideologically.
46:22We are not compromised.
46:24We have established this throughout our campaign.
46:27Even today.
46:28Even in the assembly.
46:29Our chief minister made it very clear.
46:31And where does he stand on the identity of Tamil Nadu?
46:35Today he came in the assembly and said...
46:37I maintain...
46:37We should have a two language formula, not three language formula.
46:41Yes.
46:41So is he very clear?
46:42Where does he stand on the issue of a Tamil identity?
46:46Tamil identity is our pride.
46:49And two language policy, we believe in that.
46:51We have told the people and we have declared to the entire nation.
46:55We will not accept imposing any other third language, especially Hindi.
47:00And we are bound by the ideologies of Siyad Anadurai on the language policy.
47:09And we also committed...
47:11You know...
47:11Are you in a...
47:12I come back to it.
47:13I come back to it, Dr. Hafiz.
47:15From what you are hearing from Felix.
47:17Here is a politician who is saying...
47:18The DMK is my political opponent.
47:21BJP is my ideological opponent.
47:22I stand for secularism.
47:24I stand for a strong Tamil identity.
47:26I respect Periyar.
47:27I respect Ambedkar.
47:29Is Vijay now, in a way, occupying a much larger space than you ever imagined?
47:36In the mindset of Tamil Nadu, which was dominated by the Dravidian parties.
47:40And today, when he spoke, in a sense, he was trying to show that I am now someone different.
47:45I am wanting to break away from the Dravidian parties and offer a new alternative.
47:52That is the confusion that the TVK is stuck with.
47:56On one hand, they say they follow Periyaristic ideals.
47:59On the other hand, they say they don't oppose the philosophy of God.
48:04On the other hand, they say we follow the principles of Anna.
48:07If you have followed the principles of Anna, you should have stood for state autonomy.
48:11Your spokesperson comes and says that what is wrong in singing national anthem twice in the assembly.
48:17Had Anna being there, would have allowed such a thing to happen?
48:21It was against the autonomy of the assembly, which had a tradition.
48:25So they are compromising with the BJP.
48:27Today, the state president of the BJP has come up with a statement saying,
48:32should I leak out who all did you beg to form the government with the BJP?
48:35Were you happy with BJP that time?
48:38How many times did you call and said, please let me form the government?
48:42So he was one hand cozying up with the BJP to form the government.
48:45On the other hand, showing a picture that he's against the BJP.
48:48The cat is out of the bag now.
48:50It's a statement of the BJP president of the Tamil Nadu,
48:52with all the credibility and accountability, has made the statement.
48:56It is for the TVK to explain that they are against the BJP.
48:59Now, every action they do, they make sure that the BJP is insulated from the issues that the Tamil Nadu
49:04is facing.
49:05Let it be the funds that are due to Tamil Nadu from the BJP.
49:09So, these are all the issues.
49:11See, this...
49:12Are you aware that the fact...
49:13Okay, I take care of, sir.
49:13Let me complete, sir.
49:14One minute.
49:15One minute.
49:15One minute.
49:16There can be double action in cinema.
49:17No, just a minute.
49:20Under Stalin, under Stalin, Mr. Felix Gerard, the Tamil Nadu government took a strong anti-center position.
49:26Vijay seems to be much more careful.
49:28He's unwilling to take on the BJP beyond the point is a charge that's already being made.
49:33Or the Modi government beyond the point.
49:36It's an outside message they want to spread.
49:38But the real fact is, they have a very deep nexus that is inside.
49:43From the fact that we can understand that, recently, with the guidance of BJP, ADNK and DNK tried to form
49:52an alliance.
49:53What does it mean?
49:55Does it not mean that they are...
49:56With the blessing of BJP, they are doing it?
49:59It is a drama they were playing all these days.
50:03They never opposed Modi.
50:04They were never opposed center.
50:06But it's a kind of a mirage they were sending out to the world.
50:10It's an optical drama, they say.
50:13In reality, they were very close.
50:16I've heard both sides.
50:18You know, you will keep blaming each other.
50:20But it's interesting because Vijay, as I said, hasn't given a single proper interview.
50:24Even given an answered really impromptu question.
50:27Which is why it was interesting to see him speak today in the assembly.
50:30We'll wait and see whether he's able to evolve and come up with a clear vision for Tamil Nadu beyond
50:35anti-corruption.
50:36And his vision of what he says is secularism.
50:39But I appreciate both my guests joining me on my talking point tonight.
50:43Let's turn to tonight's shocker of the day.
50:45What began as a love story headed for marriage has now turned into a chilling murder investigation in Pune.
50:51Where the police allege a deadly conspiracy involving a fiancé and her boyfriend.
50:56Ending with a young man being pushed off just days before...
51:00Pushed off a fort and dying just days before his wedding.
51:04India Today now reports.
51:15A love story that was headed for marriage.
51:21A dream wedding just weeks away.
51:28And now a chilling murder investigation that police say was planned in cold blood.
51:37First believed to be a tragic trekking accident at Pune's Lohagar fort.
51:45Now revealed to be a shocking tale of love, betrayal and death.
51:52Police claim 26-year-old Ketan Agarwal was allegedly murdered by his fiancé Sia Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary.
52:03Because Sia did not want to go ahead with the arranged marriage.
52:13According to police, the alleged murder plot was set in motion during a trek to Lohagar fort on May 31st.
52:21Investigators claim an initial attempt to kill Ketan on June 14th failed.
52:26But on June 19th, Ketan returned to the fort once again.
52:31Investigators claim Sia called her boyfriend Chetan to Lohagar.
52:36And together they allegedly pushed Ketan off the fort.
52:42Ketan Agarwal had fell down after slipping away from one of the edge walls of the fort.
52:48Sia Goyal was in relationship with a boy named Chetan Chaudhary.
52:53They admitted that they had conspired together to kill the boy named Ketan Agarwal.
53:03As the wedding countdown began, Ketan was planning surprises, holidays and celebrations for his bride-to-be.
53:13A luxury resort booked, dozens of rooms reserved, but instead of wedding vows, his family is now seeking justice.
53:36A wedding turned into a murder probe, a love story ending in betrayal.
53:43And a family left searching for answers.
53:48Bureau report, India today.
54:01Terrible story there.
54:03Love and then dhoka.
54:05Okay, let me end the day with something brighter.
54:08Because we've been waiting for the monsoon here in Mumbai for a very long time.
54:13And what will gladden the hearts of Mumbaikers and everyone else in the country is the fact that the southwest
54:21monsoon has officially arrived over the maximum city.
54:25Torrential downpours, lightning strikes lashing the city on Tuesday as the IMD declared the onset of the southwest monsoon over
54:33Mumbai and parts of North Konkar.
54:35It's been a long wait through this month of June, but better late than never.
54:40We all hope that it will be a normal monsoon.
54:43And in particular, our farmers will have plenty to celebrate is all that we can hope and pray for.
54:49I'll only leave you with a song as I sung this morning on Marine Drive in Mumbai.
54:56Pardon my poor use of music, but it's a song of Kishorda, famous in a film called Manzil.
55:05Grim jhim gire saavan, sulag sulag jae man.
55:12On that note, I won't say more because Kishorda will wonder whatever happened to his wonderful voice.
55:18Thanks for watching. Stay well, stay safe. Good night Shubratri.
55:21Jaihin Namaskar.
