00:01Hope Leo XIV warned that it is far easier in today's world to feed conflicts than to feed people during
00:07a visit to the United Nations World Food Programme Headquarters on Monday.
00:12Speaking in Rome, the pontiff strongly denounced complex political decisions and skewed ideological positions that create numerous administrative barriers to
00:21humanitarian assistance while allowing weaponry to pass unhindered.
00:25To strengthen solidarity in this spirit, I wish to appeal to the governments and peoples of the world to renew
00:32and strengthen their commitment, to increase the resources dedicated to combating hunger and its root causes, and to remove the
00:41obstacles that prevent aid from reaching those in need.
00:45The Pope also stressed that this operational imbalance represents a severe breakdown in moral priorities, noting that chronic hunger actively
00:54erodes social cohesion and accelerates forced global migration.
00:59The pontiff also reiterated that access to essential nourishment, water, and healthcare must never be subordinated to market commodities or
01:08volatile geopolitical interests.
01:10While praising the international organization for its dedicated commitment during natural disasters, he urged global leaders to place human dignity
01:18above market profit to ensure international stability.
